- A record 32 nations have taken part in this year's world-renowned patrolling exercise - Cambrian Patrol.
Taking place in the Brecon Beacons each year, it is a gruelling test of basic soldiering for the militaries of the world.
Despite it being in its 64th year, the exercise still remains key to operations today.

Congratulations to our Philippine Army (PA) contingent for receiving a Silver Medal from the recently concluded Phase II of the Exercise Cambrian Patrol 2023 on October 7 to 9, 2023, in Wales, United Kingdom.

A nice accomplishment considering the weather difference.
Well done Centinelas del Norte.🇺🇸👍
I did the patrol in 1994 (RGJ British Army). The best part was meeting the other nations military. Met some great people who were just like me and we had a lot in common. Looking for the same thing in life.
I found it in orienteering. Lot of people who love a challenge
The British army can't even defend their own borders with thousands of illegal Immigrants getting into Britain in dinkys they have turned into the salvation army helping foreign countries giving them aid

I retired approx 5 yrs ago from the Canadian army. I was so pleased to hear that my former reserve infantry unit's team received a silver medal! They told me that my old regular regt did well too. There may have been more but I'm only aware of the 2 western tms. Well done!
Kudos to the Planning and Directing Staff.
Year after year they create a Patrol Competition that challenges, tests and occasionally breaks high performing teams.
It's no wonder it has such a global reputation.
Looking forward to seeing the final results there's always a few surprises.

The Patrol of the VI Army Division of the Chilean Army.
Everyone should know that the patrol that represented us this year is located in the DESERT of Chile, a scenario diametrically opposite to that of Cambrian Patrol.
Congratulations!!
It’s great to see different countries working together
I came across this exercise a few years back whilst out on the off road motorbikes. Had a good natter with some of the staff that were there marking the teams going through.
Congratulations to Indian Army for winning the gold
In the Finnish navy we crossed water by getting naked and by floating our kit in our rain coats. The water wasn't bad, 15C or so. It pays aferwards, as you don't have to spend energy drying.

Welcome to NATO!
All good as you have dry kit at the end of the crossing, but what happens on other side you get attacked , and you have no clothes on
@@christopherjones6607 You fight naked, ofc.
I was attached to the Scots Guards during a Pond Jump West. We did a company competition not dissimilar to Cambrian Patrol and during the river crossing, we stripped off and wore our goretex waterproofs

I’ve trained at Brecon Beacon in the mid ‘90’s as part of my JSOC deployment in Europe, before we were involved in Op. Amber Star. And my goodness that country has parallel rain!! The US use to have the “Recondo” school in Nha Trang, the last week of the 3 week school was actually combat patrols. I’m not sure what they do now, but I hope it’s field craft intensive.
Great exercise you learn a lot, i remember doing that course when i was in and the people you meet .
Just looking at brecon makes my knees and back ache !!! Some hard training at the time, would go back in a second if i could.

Did the cambrian patrol not so long ago ,what an amazing experience ,unfortunately towards the end the we had 3 casualties ,so our team had to be taken off the course ,but an experience i will never forget
A welsh farmer has more kit than the MOD
😂
UK Armed Forces do have Aggressor units with various non-NATO kit so that exercises are as realistic as possible.
Sustainable transport says that local supply is best since they don't need to be live firing Grad or T-54. We already know that NLAW would beat them.
That farmer who's a tank enthusiast loaning his tanks to the military for this exercise is next level! 😅👍
Done this twice in my army career . Brilliant
Indian army 3/5 gorkha rifles(frontier force) gold medalist
It's amazing the gold medal is Indian Gurkha Rifles and Silver goes to Pakistani Army. Their border conflict really makes them great at this,
Not competition. Philippines got silver also.
Problem with India and their Border War with Pakistan is that it's been going on for over 70 years now. If the Indian Army was that good, it would've won this war by now - but it hasn't!! 🙄
Seems like you are bad in international affairs.@@tim7052
@@tim7052 sorry to burst your bubble , but these weren't border wars, 2 of them were full scale mechanised wars with the indian army capturing 200,000 square kilometres of combined territory out of which 144,000 sq km was gifted to Bengalis for making Bangladesh. There were 4 wars, 2 were ended with decisive indian victories( 1971 and 1999) and the other 2 ended in cease-fire ( 1965 and 1947)with india having the upper hand. Ever heard of the nation called Bangladesh ? India created that nation by breaking Pakistan into pieces in 1971. 93,000 Pakistani soldiers surrendered Making it the largest surrender after ww2.
If the British army was that good it wouldn't have lost in afghanistan
@@tim7052 which war has been going on for 70 years ? Are you dumb ? The last time india and Pakistan went to war was in 1999 which ended up with india kicking Pakistan out of kargil. Which weed have you been smoking. There has been no war since 1999, there has been relative peace since then
The Swedish paratrooper test "Ornmarchen"(Eagle March, the Eagle is the emblem you earn for passing the test). Is 43 miles in one day I think. So 18 miles during the day and 18 miles during the night and 6 miles of "orientation with map and objectives" and there is a shooting test baked into it all as well. Of course with gear. It was at one point, if not still the world's most grueling test to pass to become an Elite Paratrooper-hunter soldier (Special forces) in the world.
This looks to be very close to that but seemingly over 2 days. Impressive.
So a welsh farmer(turned tank curator? since enthusiast tends to someone who to be interested in a certain subject not a job) owned a Grad a Soviet-era tank(T-55?) and a Rapier curious now as to what his collection is if he got those.

Apparently the UK Army doesn't have enough combat-ready personnel to even fill Wembly stadium, I'd be interested to know if that's true.
Which is true as Wembley holds 90,000 and the regular British Army is 78,000 soon to be reduced to 72,000 , Plus reservists . Compared to 1982 when it was 160,000 with 55,000 permanently stationed in BAOR and 18,000 in Northern Ireland.
2003 I competed with my Armored Regt from Canada. What a slog! Pitch black, non stop rain in the bottom of a deep ravine carrying our rucks surrounded by the corpses of dead sheep....We weren't meant to be there! We didn't medal but we completed! It was a great test and adventure.
All units participating are winners, I always enjoyed joint training with other nations and learning new tactics and procedures to put in my tool box. I learned a lot from the British, Germans, and French as well as Belgium Soldiers. Congratulations to every one participating. I believe the US Army made a mistake getting rid of the LRSD/ LRSU Units, time will tell.

Done this over 30 years ago. It chucked it down continuously, horizontal rain, by the time we finished everybody had been soaked through for several days, officer had to casevaced due to exposure. Truly ruddy horrendous, and I live about 30 miles from Sennybridge, so pretty used to it, we trained up there all the time. I pity the teams that come from sunnier, drier , climes, they'd best train by walking up and down a steep hill for a few days, whilst being doused by a cold hosepipe and carrying a small donkey, prayer for dry weather (a miracle in Wales anytime between September and June). The things we do for fun when we're young..
