    The fact that Gail ran both the 100m and 100 hurdles is proof how special an athlete she was. ❤

    So much mutual admiration and respect between Devers and Engquist. Two great champions.

    Oh man. Gail was absolutely flying! That mistake at the end robbed her of an even better time. She certainly could have gone 12.30 had she cleared the last hurdle cleanly. She got a terrific start but she was really accelerating and pulling away from the field in the last few hurdles. Outstanding

    Intrinsically her best race.. Clipping that last hurdle cut her lead in half and with her flat speed she was always strong on the run-in.. Probably lost out of 12.30 there

      N LS In 1992 she would have run an awesome time had she not clipped the hurdle as well

      True. I'm a former hurdler. She was by far the best, but lost lots of time in the air over the hurdles for too long (I think she didn't have much choice because of her height), and after the last hurdle, she actually slowed down, rather than accelerate, as do most folks...especially in tight races. Good thing no once was close to her.

      She was so far ahead in 1992, that she might have broken the WR hadn't she fallen. Simply an amazing hurdler!

      @MsSlucyna 5 лет назад

      Well,in hurdle race hitting a hurdle does not necessarily mean slowing down. It depends, just have a look at men's races: they have so much power that sometimes a minor collision doesn't matter at all

    Well, it is the fact that she was such a good flat sprinter may have intervene in her hurdle carier and been a cause of many unsuccessful races. That's because the running technique is totally different in those two disciplines

    Did anyone notice that Gail Devers hit the last hurdle in this final? She gritted it out and won anyway, but if the other women would have been closer, Devers may have not won this final.

  • @Jess-vb6mz

    She could have ran 12.26 with clean end.

    Shishigina looks so nervous and very weak whenever she faces off against Devers. Shishigina has lost in head-to-head matches since 1995 at Göteborg. Shishigina didn't even win a bronze medal at this tournament, despite Devers winning.
