  • I'll chalk this one up as a learning experience. Time to crack open the books and figure out what I needed to do different. If anyone more experienced than myself has any tips or advice I gladly welcome it. God bless!

What works great on a large tree is to cut a spot for a hydraulic bottle jack on the back side of tree. Make notch on side where you want the tree to fall, and start pumping up the jack. Much easier than trying to use wedges. Love your videos, thanks for sharing!

Very well done my friend! You done everything perfect! I’ve cut timber for a living and you done it how anyone with experience would have. Give yourself a pat on the back! Only thing I would of done and it’s what you address in the video… cutting a little more hinge wood because just a little can keep a tree standing… but being unsure you done the right thing and keep pounding Wedges

I feel exactly the same way about a large tree with risk of hitting some thing. You did an excellent job. It's down where you wanted and you didn't get hurt. The hammer was a great problem solution.

I had a similar experience with a much smaller tree on my property that was leaning towards my neighbour's power line and house. My neighbour and I did our cuts but the damn thing wouldn't fall the right way. We got a couple more neighbours over and we all heaved on a rope to pull it the way we wanted it to fall, then it started to fall the wrong way. I summoned all my strength but it wasn't doing anything to change the direction, then a gust of wind came and the whole tree twisted around as it fell in the exact direction we needed it too. I'm convinced that gust had more to do with it than all my neighbours and I pulling. I completely relate to your sense of relief. Thanks for the vid.

Good thing that it succeeded. I was wondering if falling it to the side (neither on the cabin, neither the way you did, but 90° to the side) would be an option (if there was place for it to lay down). It that case you would just need to leave more hinge oh the side further from cabin to fight the lean.
You can now finally rest in the cabin without worries on a windy day. (Apart the unwanted roommate under the floor 😉)
