Me seeing this before 24th Jan 2020: What is Makari if still alive, just stuck up Ghazghkulls arse? 24th Jan 2020: (Sees Ghazghkull teaser with Makari at the end) HE SHAT HIM OUT AT LAST!!!
You should do one on the Tyranids codexes over the years, specifically comparing 2e/3e/4e. Not one, not two, but THREE complete aesthetic overhauls, not including the two overhauls of the Genestealer Cults. Probably some of the most fascinating behind the scenes history in the entire hobby tbh.
Stormboyz actually had a funny backstory in this edition, being juvenile orcs who felt they had to be counter culture, so started to get organized and do drills and marches and such. Adult orcs would say stuff like "they'll grow out of it"
Orks subcultures were mostly based on British hooligan subcultures at the time. I always assumed old Stormboyz were ment to be the Nazi Skinheads of Orks.
good news its 2021 and Zodgrod Wortsnagga is back he spent most of 2020 fishing makari out of gazghkulls arse and now he's taking to the table top with the beast snaggas
I love how you mentioned the photocopiable pages and failed to cover the trek to the library and pockets full of 5p (later 10p) coins you needed to take so that you could take said photocopies! I truly believe that W40k, D&D, and White Wolf were keeping the public library system in the UK afloat until we started to buy scanner/printers for home... 😉
Yeah, I heard someone at GW say on a livestream that Ork blood should be green but if you paint green splotches on an ork it just looks like it had an accident with a slurpee.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane! This was my first 40k army and it was a difficult army for a beginner! I think I won a couple games but my opponent always took plasma missiles. I usually had great success with the squig catapult, and occasionally the kustom combi-weapons, if they didn't blow up. Thanks for the video!
'Ere we go, 'ere we go, 'ere we go! 'Ere we go, 'ere we go, through the Cooooozmos! 'Ere we go, 'ere we go, 'ere we go! 'Ere we go, 'ere we go, through infinity...!
I started in 2nd edition right before 3rd edition. I didnt get any 2nd ED codexes at the time but later found a few old books I bought cheap. I actually think between 2nd all the way down to 8th edition that I like 2nd edition the best. Space Orks in particular were actually pretty good in 2nd. The different Klan Mobs would provide different options that were later in 3rd edition separated and restricted by the Force Organization chart. In 2nd edition you could have an army of Bad Moons with Mega-Armor, Death Skulls with heavy weapons, Evil Suns with bikes, and so on making up most of your army. Similarly orks having options for effective weapons rather than the low quality imitations of Imperial equipment from 3rd edition onwards was actually cool. They "Looted" everything they could, so yeah Orks in looted Leman Russ and Land Raiders.
Ork players today don't know what they missed. Nothing was more satisfying than crippling your foe with a twin Pulsa Rokkit barrage on turn one, especially if they had jetbikes or skimmers!
Funny enough after rewatching this episode years later, the two characters that were never seen again after 2nd edition are both back with new models. I hope GW bring back more
Ya sure, ya.. you may get them into the enemy deployment zone in turn 2 but there was a chance they'd decide to go for a drive.. round the world. So they'd reach your enemy deployment zone and keep going right off the board.
I remember seeing this and a bunch of other older codices, from both 40k and fantasy, in a second hand book shop back in '08. Spent close to an hour pouring through them, wish I had had the money to buy the lot of them :'(
I just got into 40k and saving up to get myself a imperial knight, but men when I see the old 40k stuff, it feels more honest and more fun to try new things and mix and match stuff, what edition was it when imperial Knights were introduced?
It's one of those things that got lost when people took the setting too seriously. Orks were a parody of Nazis: only use violence, "might makes right," fight amongst themselves when they run out of enemies to fight, over-engineered super weapon contraptions that are just as likely to kill the users as they are the enemies, etc. etc. Then a bunch of actual real-life Nazis were like "Oh cool! They made models for specifically for me!" This is why we can't have nice things 😞
Shame it wasn't Ere We Go and Freebooterz, the best and most ridiculous army books ever made. Always a good sign when your army list is twice as thick as the core rules
Hey guys this is a good video YT just suggested you to me (good old algorithm aye). Is this your missus, if so it's great that she's in to your hobby and not only that, it's great to see a lady/woman/female in the hobby.
Weren't the old Stormboyz designed like that to be parodies of neo-nazis? with them being young orks in the lore who tried to make themselves seem tough and militant by following khorne and being more overtly disciplined than other orks, and that the older orks viewed it as young stupidity that they'd grow out of? Correct me if I'm wrong but I've seen an old scan of a page of stormboyz and that's what it said. So doesn't seem like they just made them look like nazis 'just because'. The name is also fitting as a lot of nazis like to use the word 'storm' somewhere in names for themselves... or their websites
I thank Mom & Dad for this series it is so good.
You're welcome, son
Ah more imperial sanctioned info from cannoness snipe and comissar wib, excellent!
Back into the tts-cave with you Bruva, chop chop. (pokes with cattle prod )
give me tts
Wot? Bruva Alfabusa isn’t working on TTS? HERESY!!!!! *blam*
In fairness, the spore-based reproduction wasn't introduced until Gorkamorka came out.
Oh absolutely, I just want more HARD facts about greenskin sexual encounters... DO IT GW YOU COWARDS.
Will you do an episode on Codex Imperialis?
Probably, it's one of the few books we have that actually reference Squats so we gotta haha
I could make a book about ork sexual encounters if you like. Or even a VN. With different orks from different clans.
I don't see a single bad idea in this conversation.
Nice to see Zodgrod and Makari return to current 40k. Warms my shrivelled heart.
Me seeing this before 24th Jan 2020: What is Makari if still alive, just stuck up Ghazghkulls arse?
24th Jan 2020: (Sees Ghazghkull teaser with Makari at the end) HE SHAT HIM OUT AT LAST!!!
Sometimes the arse giveth, and sometimes the arse taketh.
Now Zodgrod is back

I agree!

I wonder if they changed so much because of Blizzard's introduction of the more popular Zerg.
@@k-leb4671 That is indeed the reason.

@@pandaman2234 no they were way sillier
@@mailthedragon well yeah all Orkish subcultures are a lot sillier then there IRL counterparts tho
@@pandaman2234 The silliness was their appeal in 2nd edition. They've become much more serious since.
@@mailthedragon everything was sillier back in the day, the models where not detailed enough for anithing to be taken too seriusly
Guess who's back from being smashed by a warboss's ass?! Our favorite little lucky gabbo!
I firmly believe this episode is responsible for Makari's return, the upgrade of Gaz, and the Beastsnaggas
its kinda cool looking back on this now that makari has a new model and zodgrod is getting a new one with the beastsnaggas
In the grim darkness of the far future, there are only bright primary colours
YA GOT DA WRONG MODEL FOR BADRUKK YA GROTZ
Funny thing about this is: orks' Shootas hits just like Bolters to this very day
Watching this 5 years later and now Zodgrod and Makari are back!
I love this series! I know its hard to make but its very cool.
Absolutely!
Everyday of the week
#GrotLivesMatter
Are you part of the Gretchin Revolutionary Committe or the Revolutionary Gretchin Committe or the Committe of Revolutionary Gretchin?
@Turnip Singularity "Splitter!"
Wrong
Do you mean those silly little Gretchins, Tau?
That weren't the Kaptin Badrukk model, that were Boss Zagstruk!
Holy shit, you're absolutely right, straight up mistake there haha.
They wanted to save the eyes of the viewer from *DA FLASHIEST GIT*
those were the days, scaring old grannies with my Realms of Chaos Warhammer game books. Haha 2:42 look at those StormBoyz with Nazi uniforms.
Both the Stahlhelm and the Feldgrau colour were in use by the germans back in ww1, they're not really "Nazi uniforms".
Great video as always. I think GorkaMorka is worth a look given how the factions of the 40K universe are subverted and the Necron subtext added later.
Plus it was a really fun game.
good news its 2021 and Zodgrod Wortsnagga is back he spent most of 2020 fishing makari out of gazghkulls arse and now he's taking to the table top with the beast snaggas

I remember a comment about why Ork blood was red in later art. It went something like "it shows up better"
Yeah, I heard someone at GW say on a livestream that Ork blood should be green but if you paint green splotches on an ork it just looks like it had an accident with a slurpee.
I like that the two characters that didn't appear in any of the codexes, are now back with all new models.

ORKS! ORKS! ORKS! ORKS!

I live for “he smol”
2nd edition was my introduction for 40k. Thanks for covering it.
Great times! 40k second edition has always been my fav.
On a side note, the ork stormboy boss is not Badrukk, he's Zagstruk!
Thanks for sharing some nice info on the boyz from back then.
Bit late to the party but just watched this again and I absolutely cracked up at the ogryns finding orks amusing company bit
I still have fond memories of this codex from my early teenage years, thank you for the video!
You each stare intensly into my very soul.
This makes me happy in my naughty place. MY MIND!
* nods * The naughtiest place of all.
Orks with sleeves is the best way to describe the 2nd edition models
Ah yes, back when 40k and fantasy orks still were almost the same. To bad the 40k ones lost the furs hats tho, I loved those on my fantasy models
Surely imperial guard tanks aren't manned by orks, they are orkked by orks
It's funny watching this now, as both Makari and Wortsnagga now have models. As do snakebites orks, in the form of the beast snaggas.
these videos are great, definitely why I started watching!
I love how some of these models look so much like what John Blanche would make if he sculpted figs.
2:33 Argh!...(puts on sunglasses) Ah, much better.
Also, now I kinda want to see a battle between Thunderwolf Cavalry and Warboars/Cyboars
So the foreshadowing at 4:26 for dark millennium where’s that video at?
I used to have all these 2nd edition codexes, where the heck did I put them I wonder......
I love the old Ork lore.
Wib Very Disappointed is a highlight of this whole channel
0:30 -- Came here fur dis. Wuz not disappointed. You gitz is alrite. ("Gobwaz is da best. Gazghul? Never 'eard of 'er!")
You didn't mention the orky alphabet and dictionary that's in there, that was always one of my favourite parts of that book!
Ork players today don't know what they missed. Nothing was more satisfying than crippling your foe with a twin Pulsa Rokkit barrage on turn one, especially if they had jetbikes or skimmers!
Or a successful hit with the shock attack gun that fired snotlings through the warp at your enemiez!
DEAR SWEET MAKARI
SCRAPED OFF OF GHAZGHKULL'S HINDQUARTERS BUT NEVER OFF OUR HEARTS
I had to laugh hard at the RIP Makari part.! ;-) Love your videos!
And now Makari is back he lives again!
I just wonder where he's been hiding all these years...or is it the same grot.
Funny enough after rewatching this episode years later, the two characters that were never seen again after 2nd edition are both back with new models. I hope GW bring back more
7:07 Well hello to you too, honoured pack brother.
Omg that book made orks gods on the battle field.
Mount your mobs on bikes and get into the enemies deployment zone in 2nd turn
Ya sure, ya.. you may get them into the enemy deployment zone in turn 2 but there was a chance they'd decide to go for a drive.. round the world. So they'd reach your enemy deployment zone and keep going right off the board.
Nathaniel Schultz it didn't matter. Numbers and flamers.
the art and painting of the early days looks so much better. I'm so happy I kept all my old books
awesome video!!
Watching you two review this is hilarious and excellent. I still have all these books and figs as I am an Ork.
I’ll always remember this video because it came out the same day I finally moved out of college.
"Morka on the Run".......
Given how much Gorka Morka changed the Orkz lore wise I hope we get an episode on that one day.
I could have sworn I saw this second edition codex at a used bookstore.
Man... this takes me back
do waaaargh da Orks, best ork resource ever
Absolutely love this. Hewwo little Dreadnought! *waves*
I remember seeing this and a bunch of other older codices, from both 40k and fantasy, in a second hand book shop back in '08. Spent close to an hour pouring through them, wish I had had the money to buy the lot of them :'(
We'z need moar Dakka for da' boyz.
Snipe going "orks, orks, orks" makes this video!
And now, three years later, Makari and Zogrod are back!
I just got into 40k and saving up to get myself a imperial knight, but men when I see the old 40k stuff, it feels more honest and more fun to try new things and mix and match stuff, what edition was it when imperial Knights were introduced?
that ghazghkull margaret thatcher model reminds me of the real old nagash model for some reason
Epic Streetlight Manifesto shirt! Saw them twice in Vegas.
Ork shootas hit like Bolters are still canon to this day
I grew up playing second edition. It was great fun. This video means I’m now old ...
2:40. I’m Jewish and I like the Nazi Stormboy look. I actually wish GW kept that design.
It's one of those things that got lost when people took the setting too seriously. So...where's the chapter approved for that Dark Millennium box? You planning on doing it in 2019 by chance?
It's been more than a year
Where's the Dark Millennium video?
Thanks guys another great video
You guys should seriously try to play 2nd it's great. My family and I still play it exclusively
I loved this. You did a great job, orks orks orks orks!
Wow i have this... “Zotgrot“? Orc since years and wasn't know that kind of orc he is
You guys still rock!
Shame it wasn't Ere We Go and Freebooterz, the best and most ridiculous army books ever made. Always a good sign when your army list is twice as thick as the core rules
Good Old Days, I used Chimera, a Leman Russ and a Hellhound, totally codex compliant
MAKARI LIVES!
*STOMP STOMP*
RUclips compliant RUclipsrs.... a rare sight!
5:04 well this video is now dates sice there both back
As if it being from 3 years ago wasnt enough XD
What’s the end music from? I remember it from something
Hey guys this is a good video YT just suggested you to me (good old algorithm aye). Is this your missus, if so it's great that she's in to your hobby and not only that, it's great to see a lady/woman/female in the hobby.
one of my first codex's along with the angels of death codex and also gave me an idea to have a deathskull tatoo
I’m loving these vids and the choice of music. Is that monty mole?
The old Storm Boyz design is great lmao
You forgot to mention the green version of Kyle from Despicable Me on the cover! That was the most important feature!
3rd ed codex was much easier to play than the RT stuff, but I did miss the crazier weapons and units!
What is the closeout music on this? Sounds like Golden Axe, but I wasn't able to confirm.
3:52
Oh
Oh god brexit took a while
It’s happening now
Oh
Apparently butt hurt remainers are still going to be butt hurt.
So... did you ever do an episode on the Dark Millennium Box that you "future episode foreshadowed"? I can't seem to find it.
Was there any mention of the Deathskulls at all? I'm looking for reference images so I can paint Epic :D
i was not aware I had Goff ork models until now
Fond memories of this Codex. Waaaagh!

I can't remember but that was indeed the type of humour that was way more commonplace in the first two editions of WH40K than now
Snipe Is a sister of battle and a wib is a grot so what I’m saying is there is hope for us all. 🙏😉
You guys do the best retro codex reviews. So enjoyable. Hurry up and do Angels of Death. I have it but am too lazy to read it.
