At 17 i had a mk2 1600 GT, my mate had an immaculate fern green metallic 1600E, i was so jealous of the wood cappings and chrome rostyle wheels. Unfortunately his got nicked and written off, mine rusted away. Oh those happy days as a 17 year old in Southend!
As an 18 year old, my first car was MK2 Cortina 16000 GT. I rebuilt the engine and replaced the wings on my parent's driveway - great car but rusted away and was replaced by a MK3 Cortina 2000 GT in Daytona Yellow with a black vinyl roof - great memories as a 62 year old now!😂
Me too - there's switches, dials, knobs and handles. My latest car is a total nightmare with a computer screen where everything is accessible (supposedly !). It takes 5 separate things to change the radio station 😳😱😱
I started work in Aug 74 and one of the bosses had a 68 MK2 1600 Super or Deluxe and was often asked why he'd not changed it and said why ... There's nothing on that car I can't fix with a screw driver, pair of pliers, a few spanners and a big hammer
The 1600E does have the crossflow GT engine, twin choke weber and four branch manifold.Other than the lotus Cortina the ultimate cortina. I've never seen better than this one and unfortunately it is far too nice to use. It will no doubt command a very high price.
I'd sooner drive that beautiful car now than anything else, I don't need electric this that and the other, just a radio and good heating, and a reliable engine, every Cortina I've had provided everything.
Back in the seventies I had a '67 1600E in Saluki Bronze. Sadly it was stolen (not by me, from me!) The original thief-magnet. I missed it for such a long time. The one here is beautiful, but I would be afraid to leave it anywhere, although I believe they are more into stealing phones these days.
Buy to use it, not to sit on it. Missed the boat on investment with these. Over the top of the curve now. It won't go up much in value against the purchase price, even if you keep it a few years. Lovely car though.
My cousin had a brand new 1600E in a metallic green. He broke the record driving from Blairgowrie to Kirkmichael (13 miles) in 11 minutes. That might not sound impressive, but if you knew the road, you would be awe struck.
I had a 1967 silver fox 1600E the early version with dials on top of dash and the chromed rostyles instead of steel. That was 40 years ago this colour looks a deeper blue silver so probably blue mink.
I bought one 2 years ago and it was so gutless I was disappointed with it really. Expected so much more I guess. 60mph and it was out of puff. Steering was like turning a road roller. They are lovely to look at though.
There was something wrong with it then, tuned for very little money & I mean very little money, they could go. we should know we played & owned some , me & my mates
@@carlmason4153true mate I’ve had a few. They would nudge 100 mph But for little mony you could have a third more power. They really needed a higher ratio axle. At 70 mph in top the are revving at 4000 rpm If I bought another one I would probably have a five or six speed box put in and a tuned engine about 120 bhp
An absolute cracking Cortina what's a bit of imperfection, nowt that can't be sorted, and i wouldn't eat my dinner inside the engine bay just in case i dropped some crumbs, LOL.
18mpg? I've owned 1600E's since 1982, my current one since 1985. They do about 23- 25mpg around town , 30mpg+ easy on country roads if they are set up and tuned correctly.
when i was a young un that was a must have and that is a superb example
Gotta love a 1600E in Blue Mink metallic
What an absolute beauty! ❤️
Oh how I wanted a 1600E, in 1976. Ended up doing a replica but there’s nothing like the real thing. That’s a jewel.
And look at all the room around the engine ,so easy to work on. I too always loved the 1600 E but never owned one.

Lovely Lovely Lovely That's one nice car I must say
Beautiful 😊
That would suit me. No modern usless, crap, gimmicks. Pure function, lovely.

You only live once, treat yourself.
Had a GT , then a E in Midnight blue. None of mine back 50 plus years ago , were as tidy as this. Superb.
S o long as it is kept out of the rain, in a garage with a dehumidifier running 24/7

Also the lowered suspension from the Lotus

Lovely looking motor 👌 Paul 😊
Another great Classic 👍
Nice, very nice 👍
My father had a brand-new one .
And that is a supreme example .👏🏻👌🏼
My dad had a new one too. This one is as good as they get.

You only live once, treat yourself. Unlike my Bentley, this fits in the smallest of garages which is a major consideration.
We had a gold Cortina 1600E in the 70's, wish we still had it now.
I’ve owned 2 1600E in the 70s ,80s ,would have another in a heatbeat
Had one at 17 as my first car, never really appreciated what I had.
Nobody does at 17 mate.
My dads old car he loved it ❤
the 1600e was based on the cortina gt
These Guys completely get on my nerves lovely.. lovely... lovely.. superb
My dad had one of these. I can still remember the registration (MBR313G) the knars
Yes please

It might be lovely
15 Grand I would think

@@patrickallen1628 Why the snide remark? Are you a vegan cyclist?
This is identical to my first car. 1969 Cortina 1600E in Blue Mink
Should go for 12 to £15k
He doesn't even mention its a 1600E just says it's a mk 2 cortina
Ford really hit the spot with this model. Never bettered though I did like the Sapphire 2000e
Not a Patch on an E (1600 E) When Fords were Fords
Wow!......a window pillar driving mirror.
Is that blue fox ,or silver mink. ?

Might need some buffing on roof though.😅
Lovely car but 18mpg would put me off it and the fact I've never liked Ford's anyway
18MPG, wheres that come from ??????? Ive had a few of these
My Bentley is insured for 1000 miles a year, I don't get anywhere near it. The cost of fuel is irrelevant. Put on your big boy pants and live a bit !

18 mpg ??? Do you know it’s got more then 1 gear 😂
Had one lovely car h reg sold that then bought a lotus cortina wish i still had it in those days it was just a car 🚗 😊
Modern cars all look the same
