Absolutely unreal tunes, even nearly 15 yrs ago, nyana blew my mind. The legacy is probably the greatest trance tune I've ever heard and I don't think I'll ever hear a better one, coming from a trance fan since 1997!!

When I started listening to Trance back in 2004 he was at the end of his time as the big god of Trance, but since I started listening to his good old stuff I wasn't poisoned by the new stuff! So, today I keep playing and replaying his best sets and tracks because what he is done will never disappear from my life even though he dies! Thank you Tiesto for the wonderful work between 99-03! Some people criticize his productions...they should listen to the tracks below before saying anything: - Adagio for Strings - Nyana - Traffic - Urban Train - Athena - Forever Today - Gouryella (with Ferry Corsten) - Eternity (with AvB) Regarding best Trance Dj ever, I can agree that Paul Oakenfold was a god and deserves credit but I didn't find the tracks he played outstanding individualy...on the other hand, I have downloaded and keep on my phone most of trackes Tiesto played in his best sets, so for me he will always be guy, even though today he plays crap compared to godlike tracks he played back then.
There is a Tiësto before and after 2008 (when he quit trance). But I don't hate him like some people do, they call him a sell out. I also like the "old" Tiësto more, but I respect his choice for changing his style. I just remember his legacy as one of the greatest Trance Superstar DJ's ever! I also want to give a big shout out to Geert Huinink, who composed many of his classical tunes (like: Forever Today, Just Be, Elements of Life, etc).

But Sven Vath , Astral Projection , BT , CJ Bolland , Jam and Spoon , Hallucinogen , Sasha and James Holden were experimental , pioneering and sheer magic all the way through ! Tiesto is as much a product of marketing as of potential ( don't go nuts on me for this ! he has potential, and that's why I say he is half and half ! Others are 90 : 10 ) !
I understand your point and I won't go nuts, but some examples you gave are goa trance and when I say trance I refer to Progressive especifically. When I say he is the best means some of his sets (Innercity 99, Energy 2000, Innercity Radio 2003, Dutch Dimension Solo 2002, Dance Department 2001 and Club Space 2002) have really got into me like no other Trance dj ever had! Most of the sets I love are more melodic, thus they make me feel very emotional deep inside, and that is the magic! Paul Oakenfold in the old times was also a god but he played faster. I like music that goes deep. If you knew my top 10 trance tracks you would understand why Tiesto is the man for me. It's not just about music quality in the sense of experimentation like the ones you cited but it's also about setting up deep emotional music that makes your heart as joyful as it can be. Hope you understood my opinion.

I know him as event manager, already 26 years ago for Beach Party, great guy. Hey started up, 6 years later here for 30.000 people in football stadium, people go crazy. Sold out in 3 hours for his tickets, 2 night, 8 hours. I never forget him, I am 60 years old, I like it so much. That was a great time, 80, 90's, 2000, not that bullshit music today.
