Our Very First Donation - Concrete Connection Project - Family Connections BPD Australia

On April 13th the Concrete Connection Project made its first big donation to mental health services in South Australia by helping fund the Family Connections program that assists the families of people suffering from Borderline Personality Disorder - or BPD.
The condition, which affects an estimated 1 in 20 people, manifests primarily as extreme emotional dysregulation, carries a heightened risk of suicide, and can be complex to manage.
BPD is not only challenging to live with for the people who have it, but also for their families and loved ones. Strong emotions and impulses affect family relationships, and can leave families feeling helpless, no matter what they do - which is where Family Connections comes in.
The program is a free 12 week course providing education, skills training, and assistance for people supporting someone who has BPD, and has been proven through multiple independent studies to significantly decrease feelings of depression, burden, and grief, and heighten feelings of empowerment - which in turn greatly helps their loved ones who have BPD to express themselves and manage their emotions.
Where there was once thought to be “no cure”, there is now evidence that 80% of people with Borderline Personality Disorder are able to reduce their symptoms - and programs like Family Connections greatly assist this to happen.
Hosted in a community setting and led by trained group leaders who are either clinicians or family members of relatives with BPD, the Family Connections program is free for attendees but is not free to run - and with little financial backing, it relies on the generosity of the community to enable more families to take part.
Our donation of $500 will fund two South Australian family places in a Family Connections™ 12 week program - and literally make their lives better. So thank you to all the people that have donated to The Concrete Connection Project so far - you are truly making a difference in your own community.
