I like this variety of reaction video. Having people react to an unusual-to-them food while a person who is familiar with the food is there to answer questions is an interesting twist on the way these videos are usually done. Please do more of them, Buzzfeed!
When tofu is an unusual food you know you're a prime candidate for cancer. Next buzzfeed video is going to be this unusual, hard, crunchy stuff called celery.
The only thing I don't like at all about Asia is durian. I bought some banana ice cream, and I tasted it. Then I realized it was durian ice cream. It tasted like sweet onions! I don't even get why someone would eat sweet onions.
Yeah. I've never had stinky tofu, but I have had stinky foods that I love and gotten used to the smell of too. Don't be discouraged if picky eaters don't like it then whatever. Its a thing because alot of people like it just not the majority.
There's this stinky tofu stall in Raohe Night Market in Taipei that serves it almost like a hotdog with some type of a brown sauce and pickled veg on top. The smell of the tofu wasn't strong and it was really delish. Highly recommend it if any1 of u are in Taipei.
Azhar Jamaloddin Did you just mention my favorite stinky tofu stall in Taiwan? I know what u mean I started loving stinky tofu because of that stall. My must go place when in Taipei. 😄
+pealpealpeal dear pealpealpeal, Although I've just seen you I know that I'm in love with you. You're as radiant and beautiful as a rose you stunning creature. I love you so much and will love you for all eternity. (Ps. If you're gay or bi actually hit me up girl)
I love it when it's deep fried & all crispy but moist (lol, ppl hate that word) on the inside. In Hong Kong, the dips are hoi sin or chilli sauce. You can always smell it from a few blocks away bc it's so pungent.
I bet it's good. A lady in China makes it out of her home and some of her customers love it (she was featured in a DW English video about a startup that got home cooks and chefs cooking for others to earn extra money). If I was in China and near her, I'd definitely order some of her stinky tofu.
In Indonesia it's called tahu gejrot. I always tempting to buy it because it looks so good but everytime I bought it, I ended up gave it to my mom because I can't stand the smell of them. but the sauce is delicious so sometimes I ate it a bit than gave it to my parents.
Stinky tofu is probably one of my favorite dishes it’s comes from China although when the KMT evacuated to Taiwan chinese people from hunan carried there cuisine over and now it’s very popular. Actually it’s the same with beef noodle soup which is absolutely amazing which originates from Lanzhou China in northwestern China. Beef noodle soup in Taiwan came also with the KMT evacuation although the beef noodle soup in Taiwan is a combo of other cuisines in China with Sichuan mala broth combined with beef and Taiwan toppings and Lanzhou noodles.
I love stinky tofu, it doesn't smell stinky to me at all, actually it smells very appetizing, and the fresh pickled cabbage with it just makes my mouth salivate 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I tried it when i was in Taiwan and i hated it. I have a feeling that whatever they gave them was not as bad as the real stuff because i almost threw up.
If you think it still smells/ tastes bad when it's fried, omg when it's still fresh and I fried, it's even worse looool. Had it plain for hot pot once and OMG traumatized for life loool
I think that stinky tofu is pretty good!! Especially when they fry the outer layer to a thin layer of deliciousness. The smell enhances the experience!! But the taste isn't as strong as the smell itself ;)
Practically me every time I let my friends try something. I'm like "hey try this!" But right after, in my head I'm like "please don't like it, I want more"
It probably would have been smarter to call it fermented tofu. Technically, it went through a fermentation process. A lot of food that goes through fermentation have strong odors that's not necessarily pleasant for people who haven't been exposed it to before. I think asians aren't always elegant when we renaming our foods in american terms.
Most of the Taiwanese street food are best served hot. I was quite shocked by how you guys teared up the deep-fried stinky tofu. I was like wait what isn't it hot 😮😯😂
Jerusha Jose aaaa that may be a little hard then.. I'm not too familiar with India so I can't rlly help sorry!! best of luck to you though, hope you get to taste this delicacy
Is there non-stinky tofu? If so I'd be willing to try that instead...I like Taiwanese food. I wonder just how expired the cabbage is. It only stinks when its going bad as do most veggies when left unrefrigerated especially after cooking them.

YESSSSS *flaps hands around* Sorry I just feel so strongly about this that I couldn't JUST leave a like .

I believe they usually have someone who is familiar with the food, but they are mostly edited out.
When tofu is an unusual food you know you're a prime candidate for cancer. Next buzzfeed video is going to be this unusual, hard, crunchy stuff called celery.
Stinky tofu are like durians. They taste better than they smell
I love durian.
+Gina Nguyen same!
The only thing I don't like at all about Asia is durian. I bought some banana ice cream, and I tasted it. Then I realized it was durian ice cream. It tasted like sweet onions! I don't even get why someone would eat sweet onions.
yes but they don't smell bad. I'm biased though haha.
Durian tastes even worse than its smell in my opinion ~.~
The original stinky tofu is amazingly good in China!! The stinky tofu here in America is quite different which I totally understand.
Clicked on this video because I'm Asian and seeing other cultures react to food I'm used to that is a bit weird is hilarious

It's like tasting strong cheese for someone who hasn't had it before: that smells pretty awful too, but you grow to crave the strong taste
haha in china there are big signs outside the hotels that say "no smelly bean curd" lmao

Lol we eat it at home cooked with Spicy soup. I love it some much, I can't live without it.
I love stinky tofu, it doesn't smell stinky to me at all, actually it smells very appetizing, and the fresh pickled cabbage with it just makes my mouth salivate 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
there's so many types of stinky tofu!! you can get it steamed, deep fried, pan fried... plus the freshness of the tofu is a huge factor as well
I'm Chinese and I HATED stinky tofu. Couldn't get over the smell and the after taste.
I tried it when i was in Taiwan and i hated it. I have a feeling that whatever they gave them was not as bad as the real stuff because i almost threw up.
everyone at buzzfeed has that vive la france shirt
I like that guy's mentality towards people not liking the food that he likes :D
Wish more people would have the same view.
I live in Taiwan and we eat it all the time it's delicious
Name it, "General Tso's Stinky Tofu". It will catch on right away and be a hit specially in America.
I am Taiwanese and it took me forever to try stinky tofu but once I tasted it it was so good if you can get over the smell it is so good
Chick in the thumbnail will always be the human embodiment of stinky tofu to me now.
I CLICKED ON THIS BECAUSE I'M TAIWANESE AND I WAS LIKE GURLLLL YASS
"Want some?" - Yes, I'd like to try it, but in Chicago, I don't know where I'd find any. Maybe I'll google it.
This is a prime example of how buzzfeed has officially run out of video ideas
Ned's wearing a Chicago shirt and that other guy is wearing a Chance the Rapper hat. Chi town represent!!
Was this like a homework assignment that he had to do?
ever since the married vs. single debatable video, I have the impression that Steven Lim and Zach have some tensions
If you think it still smells/ tastes bad when it's fried, omg when it's still fresh and I fried, it's even worse looool. Had it plain for hot pot once and OMG traumatized for life loool
omg that was in the Sagwa the Siamese Chinese Cat cartoon!
Anytime you add the word "stinky" to a food, it must be delicious.
I go to Taiwan all the time and I LOVE sticky tofu!
Every time I visit in Taiwan I must get stinky tofu. Good stuff. Also I love to see the face my dad makes since he hates the smell.
I usually stuff the sauce and the pickled cabbage into the tofu and eat it all together
ahhh im craving it now XD
It's really not that stinky... It's actually really good!
As a Taiwanese American I love tofu and a variety of foods but the stinky tofu is one of the few I could never bring myself to do. Yet?
I'm taiwanese and I had hated the smell of stinky tofu so much that i had never wanted to try it untill two months ago i tried it and kinda liked it.
I'm Taiwanese and I love stinky tofu!
It's just like blue cheese, nadou, and kimchi; they're all acquired tastes.
stinky tofu is amazing. The smell is bad but the taste is amazing
You have to eat it hot so that I won't smell very bad in your mouth... Aha! I ate it only twice.
SHOUTOUT TO THE GUY WEARING A CHANCE 3 HAT

You have to try the ones from Hunan!!
i love tofu but i never thought of it to be stinky
I tried some of that in China. It was literally blue and rotten. Gagged on the smell before it got anywhere near my mouth.
Practically me every time I let my friends try something. I'm like "hey try this!" But right after, in my head I'm like "please don't like it, I want more"

Is there non-stinky tofu? If so I'd be willing to try that instead...I like Taiwanese food. I wonder just how expired the cabbage is. It only stinks when its going bad as do most veggies when left unrefrigerated especially after cooking them.
stinky tofu in Indonesia means Tahu Gejrot, right? ...(or no?) hehehe
