- Showing the backyard chicken farm setup. The coop is made from a resin shed that was modified a little. The run is made from a dog kennel with fabric roof section. Our chicken door is a Run Chicken T40, that used to be powered by a 12v adapter, however I cut that off and it's now wired to a 12v car battery and two solar trickle chargers. I also added in 12 volt LED lighting along the inside for checking on them when it's dark.
I cut openings in the walls for extra ventilation and put in foundation vents that open and close automatically. So far they work ok, but I need to build some winter doors to keep out strong winds.
I'll be adding in some extra insulation in the walls as it gets around 10° colder or warmer than ambient.

"I got these things". Ah yes, small urban dinosaurs.
I just finished my 10x10 run today and haven't put all the accessories or the flooring in yet. I was afraid it wouldn't be big enough if I chose to add more next season for 20 chickens, but it seems like they are pretty happy in there.
great idea for the types of vents
Thanks, I covered them up for winter last year when it was really cold, but otherwise they work great by themselves.
What are these vents i need them
Great set up
Thanks!
3D print a hand for the end of the gravity feeder.
That would just be weird
Nice vents but the chickens still need ventilation in the cold weather
I'll make an updated video soon. There's two small vents at the peak, two louvered rectangle vents towards the front at the top of the walls, then the four foundation vents that "close" with changing temperatures. In the summer I open the door windows as additional vents. The door at the bottom is also left open all year.
Do you sell the gravity feeders?
I don't. They are pretty easy to make with some PVC pipe and an elbow at the bottom, cap at the top.
May I ask how you cut the holes for the vents and the chicken door? Thanks…
I used a circular saw after marking a rectangle the same size as the foundation vents and door. I cleaned up the corners with a jig saw, though you can use an oscillating tool as well.
@@HeartlandRebuilds Thanks for answering! I am planning on getting one of those resin sheds too but didn’t know if it was possible to saw through it. I will pass this info onto my son!
How many eggs would you say you get on average per day/week?
It depends on the season. Normally it's about 12-14 a day with 18 chickens. During winter and molting, 6-7 a day. Really depends on the breed if they lay more per year. We have a decent variety of breeds.
What are the dimensions
My run is 10x10. The coop is a resin/plastic 8x7. I would have preferred an 8x8 but they weren't in stock at the time.
