      Thank you! Yes that will be included in our Part 2 of the install! Curious what DSP you are looking at. I think we are going to go with a MiniDSP with Dirac Live! @@moonrakerdesign I was looking at the Sound Control DM-810. From what I could tell the Mini-dsp doesn't have a provision for corrective EQ to account for the head unit. But I do have extensive audio experience in tuning, :)

    Awesome work brother! Your attention to detail and precision is 2nd to none. Would you happen to know if all sprinter head units would have the rear out available to tap into as you did. I have a 2023 2500 Cargo AWD. By default I only have the front speakers as well. Tapping the front into my amp, getting the rear signal is fader works would be nice. Anyhow, thanks for the great video.

    • @moonrakerdesign
      @moonrakerdesign  Год назад

      Hey @80spurple thanks for stopping by and the compliments it really means a lot to us!!
      Yes all sprinters headunits have those outputs for a cargo van if you didn't order EP7 you'll have to tap in with the pins like I did. If you ordered your van with EP7 there an additional dongle under the drivers seat that you can tap into for rear speakers.
      The only problem when you tap in like I did without the EP7 is you don't have rear fader enabled, it's a SW thing that your local dealer has to enable once you have the rear speaker inputs hooked up.
      Hope this helps let me know if you have any other questions!

      @moonrakerdesign nice!! I have a brand new 2024 sprinter 170" with the large touch screen. It's not a conversion van, I'm using it commercially for work. I've had it for about 2 months. I'm loving it so far.. except.... the sound system.. fu*king weak af!! Disappointed on how bad the sound is. I'd like to upgrade the sprakers and maybe add a 10" or 12" sub to give it a nice thump. However, I wouldn't want to spend more than like $500..😅😅 let's see what I can do. Of inchange the speakers only, I don't technically need to get behind the radio right? But if I add a sub then I would, correct?
      Moreover, great great job, bro!!!

    • @moonrakerdesign
      @moonrakerdesign  8 дней назад

      @@Phenom305 Yeah they are great vans, but laughable how bad the sounds system is.
      For that price point you might want to look at the plug and play Jehnert speakers. It's probably not worth putting in non-plug and play speakers if you don't plan on putting in an amp. The factory head unit won't be able to drive much in terms of wattage.
      Also FYI, once you've committed to going with a sub, your going to need an amp and price creeps up quickly!
      DIY Van makes a pretty cool wall mounted sub panel for the Alpine enclosed subwoofer - diyvan.com/products/alpine-pwe-s8-subwoofer-mounting-panel-for-ncv3-and-vs30-sprinter?_pos=1&_sid=ccf05beab&_ss=r

    Is the original speaker wire to the doors poop?
    And then with that amp, I heard you don’t need crossovers? 🤷

    • @moonrakerdesign
      @moonrakerdesign  4 месяца назад

      The original speaker wire to the doors isn't great, most normal people probably wouldn't notice the sound difference though. Just make sure the amount of juice you are pumping through isn't limited by the gauge. The crossovers in this case are specific to the focal 3-way speakers to make sure that each one get's the right frequencies not required by the amp.

    • @kingofswamis
      @kingofswamis 4 месяца назад

      @@moonrakerdesign Thank you sir Todd! I SPACED..OUT for a second. As the speaker wires come from the amp anyway so yeah, have to run new/quality.
      Q: Did you have to special tune that amp using the crossovers? or do you merely push the buttons on the amp like in the amp videos?

    • @moonrakerdesign
      @moonrakerdesign  4 месяца назад

      @@kingofswamis in order to have a real tune you need a DSP inline from head unit to the amplifier. My longer term plan is to add a MiniDSP with DL to have a full tune and full control. It will also allow me to have a Marine headunit in the back of the van to listen to house music while parked of the house battery system. I thought I would be able to get that done sooner but always constrained by the two great variables... time & money 😅

      Hey @chunkerbranigen5825 it's a great thought and thanks for taking the time to post this here! I know @DIYVan is making these diyvan.com/collections/sprinter-products/products/pair-of-2019-to-present-sprinter-vs30-cab-door-speaker-adapter-for-6-5-speaker already so not looking to step on their toes. The only thing is their solution is limited to a maximum 2.25" speaker depth. Since I wanted this bigger door speakers (3-1/16" depth) and 3-way component system I had to make these.
      I have made a few sets as a one off for others looking to install these exact speakers BTW! That is an option if you reach out to me by email hello at farrframeworks dot com. Awesome video! I am upgrading my 20221 VS30 audio right now and you have some really good tips. Looking forward to the next video and hoping that you detail how you are connecting your amp to the factory head unit. I purchased an Alpine R2 A60F which has high level inputs but not sure if this is the best method. Thinking I may add a Fix-86 dsp and feed the amps from there. Curious if you have a better solution or dsp to make the system better. Cheers!

    • @moonrakerdesign
      @moonrakerdesign  Год назад +1

      Hey @ese8641 thanks for stopping by and glad the video was helpful even though we are using different HW! Right now I have the speaker level high straight from the head unit to the amp. It actually sounds pretty good like this and way way better than the factory speakers. We can turn it up and it has good sound and clarity. However, you can tell they've modified the signals for the factory speakers especially on certain songs the tweeters get a little out of control. So as you mentioned the next step on the audio system is to put in a DSP.
      I'm looking at 3 options and we are saving my pennies accordingly.
      - Option 1: Fix-86 to a TWK-88 - even if I can flatten the signal I still think because of the van is such a big open space I'm going to need the extra tune-ability of the TWK-88
      - Option 2: MiniDSP with Dirac Live. I know nothing about tuning so the idea of DL getting me close to where I need to be automatically sounds awesome. This also will allow us to hook up a Media Master in the back of the van to run as our "parked" solution since it has so many configurable ins and outs.
      - Option 3: I've been seriously considering upgrading to an amp with DSP already built in. They are expensive but it might be a cleaning and more compact solution overall. I've been looking at the AudioControl Products as well as the higher end JL VXI amps.
      Anyways, I hope this helps. I'm still planning this out long term, but overall the system as is works for us short term while I spend time on some other parts of the van build. So the next video on the audio system might come a bit later!

    How do you control the amp? Or and or when you use your head units equalizer, and put up the + on base/-what does that do? add base to everything like your doors speakers?

    • @moonrakerdesign
      @moonrakerdesign  4 месяца назад

      The main function of the amp is to take the signal and amplify it, so if you change the signal on your equalizer it will send those signals out. Obviously it will handle sending lower frequencies to the sub but unless you have a crossover to split the signal to component speakers the doors and tweets will also pick those up.
      I personally think for most people the bad part of the sprinter audio system are the down stream components, simply taking the signals from the head unit and amplifying them to a nice set of speakers has been good enough for me and made the car so much more enjoyable to ride.
      If you want to get in the weeds then you really need a DSP (Digital Signal Processor) A simply solution would be like a JL FIX-86 or using an amp with a build in DSP.
      However my long term solution is to add a Mini-DSP with DL - www.minidsp.com/products/car-audio-dsp/cdsp-8x12-dl
      The added sound quality will be nice, but the major reasons are that I want to run a Marine Deck for the house stereo system so I need to manage a bunch of inputs and then I think I'll actually need to adjust timing between the front and rear speakers since the van is so long. I'm not a audio tuner by any means so have Dirac Live will get me there quicker.
      Hope this helps.

      @moonrakerdesign  Год назад

      Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment. It's actually not a PITA to get to the heater though. The video angle doesn't do a good job showing the perspective and how much clearance is actually there but with the cut back of the marine board and pushing the amp all the way to the center of the van I have somewhat tight but full access to the heater for service. One of the reasons why I choose this shallower amp.
      The fact that you still have to take off the passengers seat and everything is more of a PITA in my opinion. So if you are thinking this way you might want to consider and entirely different location for heater mounting. For example in an accessible cabinet somewhere in the rear of the van.

Thinking of upgrading to an Alpine 907 specific speaker system + amp which is only available in Europe.

      Hey. I haven’t added the sub yet that’s going in the wall behind the drivers seat. I ended up disconnecting the center speaker because it’s just so bad. The biggest improvement were definitely the woofers in the doors. Added a lot of nicer lows and mids. When you take out the factory speakers you can see why. They are party city quality 🤣

    did you have any problems with the engine whining noise when the speakers are off when the engine is running?

      Confirmed this morning, no issues. With the engine on and the speakers off there’s no whining sound or any other sound coming from the speakers!

      @moonrakerdesign Your build videos are Awesome. Are planning on making any of your additions like A speakers for sale?

      @@davidbare3138 like the whole pillar fiberglassed and wrapped? Not sure about that it was a ton of work and not sure what people would actually pay for it 😅. If people are interested in trying this on their own though I'd be happy to share the CAD file of the pillar mod I made. You'd have to modify it a bit if you plan on using other speakers though.

      @moonrakerdesign looks rad and I am sure sounds excellent. Looking forward to see you did for a sub and back half of the van.

    Really enoy your videos but find it very hard to concentrate and hear clearly with back ground music, not necessary in my opinion, Thanks

      For sure. I wish RUclips would let us go back and re-upload audio but alas they won’t. Newer content addresses this though. Found out the speakers we were mixing on dropped the music significantly so didn’t notice it on our end :/
