    Seems to me that you bought all the rare consoles and dev kits that I missed on eBay 15+ years ago. Literally the only channel on YT with hardware that makes me go "WHAT?? Why have I never even heard of this??"

    I had no clue this was a thing. Thanks for making the video. Also, I had always read that the GameCube launch was delayed less due to hardware not being ready but instead (per usual) the software wasn't.

      Without the “receipts” I’m sure Nintendo and their hardware waffling means SDKs and docs went out late

    2:04 That's not Game Informer, that's EGM. I recognize that Quartermann background immediately (as well as their Japanese source "Terry Aki") as it was always my favorite thing to read in every EGM issue. I also remember reading this particular column as it was the first one to mention the supposed "Playstation Type C" console that never came out, which would have been just a regular Playstation but with 6-8 megs of RAM (initially it was reported as 6 but later supposedly upped to 8) and quad-speed CD-ROM drive. It's from the February 1997 issue, if anyone cares to read it for themselves.

      So many mag pages I had open must have crossed my wires

      @@VideoGameEsoterica Yeah, I figured as much. I wasn't trying to correct you as much as I was trying to show my love for EGM and the Quartermann. Definitely my favorite gaming magazine of the late 80's and 90's (although I loved Next Generation's interviews with industry people).

    I didn’t even know this was going to exist! But I gotta say, fascinating information I came across. I wonder if that giant purple cube from that 90’s CG show produced in Canada called ReBoot influenced Nintendo into naming or designing their console what we know it as today. Or was it a coincidence? My brother and I grew up watching that show btw.

    That is GameCube trivia I have never heard before and it's super cool!
    Knowing Nintendo however, they wanted to save every penny and probably also squeeze some more money out of the Nintendo 64. Granted, that is understandable but given that SEGA started that generation on the home market, they could have had a much better run overall too.

      Nintendo always seemed to waffle back and forth on their console hardware

    The 9-pin controller ports on the 3DO make me wonder if genesis or Atari controllers would work somewhat on them.

    • @Innocuils
      @Innocuils 8 часов назад +1

      IIRC it did not work as the pinouts are different. I tried way back when 3DO was the thing to have...and I think that lasted for a day hahah.

      Same connector, diff pinout

    Well, GameCube is kinda related to the Bandai Pippin and that -3DO- Panasonic / Konami M2 before it (IBM PowerPC GPU) and after this, the Xbox 360 (Half sibling by ATI with similar GPU - edram / GPU cache - Northbridge design), Wii, Wii U and Playstation 3 (also PowerPC) 😅

    it is really difficult to make the case that the M3 was "powerful", when showing gameplay footage of BattleTryst lol
    The GameCube was an incredible piece of engineering. Sony's marketing voodoo tricked most of us back then into thinking it wasn't, goes to show that perception and merit do not always go together

  • @rancid_

    Crazy, never knew this. Even if Nintendo has bought the M3 they wouldn't have had software ready in time for the Christmas season would they?

    I love my 3DO and have a soft spot for it and my Jaguar. Especially since I visited both back in the day at VGA. I heart both.

    I think the 3DO just was sort of doomed for failure. I mean the price of the original console was outrageous and it had a lot of junk games on it

    • @VideoGameEsoterica
      @VideoGameEsoterica  4 часа назад

      That wasn’t the hardwares fault though. That’s the sad part. So many 3DO consoles were designed. Only one saw the light of day. Well technically two but that’s a story for next year
