I give props for this poker scene. It was sophisticated play. At least it wasn’t the typical poker scene, “I got four aces.” Begins to rake in the pot. “Not so fast partner.” Slow rolls a royal flush.
Gotta assume the Table is full of idiots, which is how Salas was able to grow up to 3-5x starting stack in such a short amount of time. Probably some combo of antes + straddle, then guy with QQ raised and got called by everyone, who folded when they missed the flop.
Just one time, just ONE TIME I want the poker in a movie to be realistic, even if the movie itself isn't. How hard is it to consult actual poker players?
Given that you never see a chess board set up correctly, let alone in a position resembling a skillful game, no one ever consults for these things because no one cares.
Okay, I normally love poker scenes, but this is way too unrealistic... first of all, 8-4 offsuit should've been mucked immediately. Especially considering the implied action before the turn. Second, only 50 years when the pot size is 600? That's a veeery small bet. I realize that they are literally gambling with their life, but considering how wealthy everyone attending is implied to be, it shouldn't be an issue. For that dude, especially. Third, you are not calling a bet like that when you're the short stack and when the only thing you have going for you is a straight draw when multiple other things beats you out. Fourth, fuck your 200 year "raise." That's a new card. So it's a bet.
SilverTheHedgehog090 hahahaha! Also they just start having a conversation middle of the hand on the turn, fuck that if I was one of the others I'd call a clock on there ass and tell them get a fucking move on and meet/greet after the Fucking hands done.. the only good think about the hand was the call on the turn I guess.. given the implied odds to call a fucking 50k bet into 600k... dumb ass'
SilverTheHedgehog090 600 years post-flop. If some of those years were from the other players, (who mucked their cards after either a raise/re-raise preflop or postflop bet)why the hell are you playing the hand with 8-4 off? If the other players mucked their cards and it was just heads up, you played into the flop with 8-4 off? I'm far from a poker pro, but the boldness/idiocy of that play...
So many arm chair poker analysts in here and yet nobody seems to have noticed that at 3:02 he's "raising" even though nobody has placed a bet on this street. This scene wasn't written by a fish. It was written by someone who's never played or even watched the game in their entire goddamn life.
Some times i think they purposely make these scenes incorrect to reinforce the cliches and stereotypes that most people believe poker is about to make it more exciting.
Well if someone has posted a bet on the current street (Flop/Turn/River) and someone bets a higher amount it's a raise. In this case no bet was placed on the street they were on (Turn) so it's called a bet.
the "arm chair" phrase is a little wrong here since poker is actually played on a chair and online so it actually is a commanding position when it comes to the game

Probably it's illegal to overbet your opponents to the point they are unable to play. That would be very stupid lmao. Then regards anyone could wait with whatever hand as long as they have the bigger stack and win 100% the time
@@plopytop nah man, there's a thing called "all in" when you're short on chips for a raise. You don't win or lose until wait for all the cards on the table, unless you fold of course.
This made me think, why aren’t poker chips digitalized these days? Just because of tradition? Seems like it would be more efficient to type in amounts rather than physically count and move chips each time.
Will Salas with one of the most savage donk chases of all time. I guess he did leave himself 200 years on the river if he didn't hit. Funny though how Hollywood often thinks portraying a poker player who successfully chased a longshot draw with a shit hand means they are somehow highly skilled.

Let's just analyse this hand here, 84os vs QQ (with a set on the flop) QQ guy put 50 into a 600 pot with a set (weak af bet) Timberlake calls 50 (20% of his total stack) against a guy with a huge stack (9000~), the bet is a pot ratio of 1:12 which is a good call, but at that point with only a gut shot straight draw and odds of hitting on the river were: 6 cards known - 52 in a deck that's 46, 4 could help him beat the QQ so that's 46 / 4 = 11.5% chance of hitting a card. 11.5% equity value from a 20% stack bet with a 12 fold bet potential winnings. In terms of equity value, he has an 11.5% of winning a 650 pot with 50, meaning that he will lose 50, 88.5% of the time So: As for expected value (EV) = hit straight + miss straight = (650 x 0.115) + (-50 x 0.885) = (74.75) + (-44.25) = EV = 30.5 So every time that he makes this bet with this pot size, he will win 30.5 . So actually, if he had an infinite stack, regardless of how unlucky he may be, over time he would win this hand and defeat the opponent entirely. In summary therefore, a good bet to make in theory according to EV, but a bad one to make given the stack size he has to play with against his opponent who has a bigger stack (Doesn't have enough cash for his expected values to pay off vs Mr. big stack. As for QQ guy, I could break down his EV but given Timberlake calling a big amount of his stack it was a good indicator that Timberlake had a good hand, or was at least chasing. Timberlake made the nuts, but QQ guy should have foreseen this, although he could have thought Timberlake had a 3 Jacks, but raising 200 into a 650 pot was a safe bet for him, even though he didn't need to feel threatened and pushed him into all-in anyway. I'd say good play on behalf of both players to be fair, although QQ guy wasn't really challenged here.

"Oh, you look upset Justin?(Hero) Maybe you should practice better bankroll management." "Oh you have a straight too? That's lucky! Wait, how do you have 84o? Yeah, we were just talking of Darwinism; Cry me a river."
Badass very realistic scene he was on a gut shot and it paid off I've seen this multiple times in real life he flopped a nice draw and I know a lot of people who would've chased it and a lot who would not have it just depends how you feel and how your playing at that given hand I may have folded after turn but may not have I play tight and loose
If you're the biggest stack on the table, you can simply go all in every hand and win every time. No one can call, because they would die the second they did.
@@ashlingmccarthy3458 A smaller stack going all in doesn't put the bigger stack all in. If you go all in with 100 and I have 200, I still only have to call 100.
A more realistic scenario (given the laws of this movie), I would have players buy-in with their Time Capsule devices (used throughout the movie to store time) instead of their actual wrist. That way, if a player goes all-in, he doesn't instantly die. Like in real-life cash games, we don't play with our entire wallet, just our chips on the table.
Is it really that difficult to consult a POKER PLAYER to design these scenes? I didn't get it in Casino Royale. There are 15 Million poker players in the world, HOW HARD CAN IT BE?
I know, right? Even a casual/amateur poker player could come up with a better scene. Or, you know, just google something like "Unbelievable Poker Hand" and copy the action from one of the more popular actual hands by pros.
It’d be really cool if I knew what those cards mean or if I knew how to play poker. All i saw were cards and had no idea who won til JT claimed his time 😂
Could have made it more realistic by giving Justin 8♣️4♣️ Real poker players know you don’t call looking to bing a gut shot straight going into the river. Chances of you hitting are around 8%. But if he had 8♣️4♣️ he would have picked up way more equity to peel the river and hope for a flush to go along with his gut shot draw.

In the future, they play bingo but call it poker.
Let's just analyse this hand here,
84os vs QQ (with a set on the flop)
QQ guy put 50 into a 600 pot with a set (weak af bet)
Timberlake calls 50 (20% of his total stack) against a guy with a huge stack (9000~), the bet is a pot ratio of 1:12 which is a good call, but at that point with only a gut shot straight draw and odds of hitting on the river were:
6 cards known - 52 in a deck that's 46, 4 could help him beat the QQ so that's 46 / 4 = 11.5% chance of hitting a card. 11.5% equity value from a 20% stack bet with a 12 fold bet potential winnings.
In terms of equity value, he has an 11.5% of winning a 650 pot with 50, meaning that he will lose 50, 88.5% of the time
So:
As for expected value (EV) = hit straight + miss straight
= (650 x 0.115) + (-50 x 0.885)
= (74.75) + (-44.25)
= EV = 30.5
So every time that he makes this bet with this pot size, he will win 30.5 .
If you're the biggest stack on the table, you can simply go all in every hand and win every time. No one can call, because they would die the second they did.
If the richest guy can go all in, why can't other players?
@@ashlingmccarthy3458 A smaller stack going all in doesn't put the bigger stack all in. If you go all in with 100 and I have 200, I still only have to call 100.
I don’t understand Poker so this scene is awesome to me
1:30 mr......?.
Just In Time Berlake.
not bad
😂
I am so love this movie
It was my first time watching this at the movies
A more realistic scenario (given the laws of this movie), I would have players buy-in with their Time Capsule devices (used throughout the movie to store time) instead of their actual wrist. That way, if a player goes all-in, he doesn't instantly die.
Like in real-life cash games, we don't play with our entire wallet, just our chips on the table.
Some people do. If this were real life you would have degenerates dying every night at the casino.
My wife and I went to see this in theaters
Really liked the idea, just not a good movie
We ended up walking out before it was finished
Is it really that difficult to consult a POKER PLAYER to design these scenes?
I didn't get it in Casino Royale.
There are 15 Million poker players in the world, HOW HARD CAN IT BE?
I know, right? Even a casual/amateur poker player could come up with a better scene. Or, you know, just google something like "Unbelievable Poker Hand" and copy the action from one of the more popular actual hands by pros.
"Well I won't lie to you. Cards are not my bag baby!"
It’d be really cool if I knew what those cards mean or if I knew how to play poker. All i saw were cards and had no idea who won til JT claimed his time 😂
Actually knowing literally nothing about Poker probably makes this scene more enjoyable. It's really that bad from a gamblers perspective
what film name
What this guy doesn't understand is that everything you do at the poker table conveys information.
"That was some risk." Dude has the stone cold nuts
89 were the nuts
Could have made it more realistic by giving Justin 8♣️4♣️
Real poker players know you don’t call looking to bing a gut shot straight going into the river. Chances of you hitting are around 8%. But if he had 8♣️4♣️ he would have picked up way more equity to peel the river and hope for a flush to go along with his gut shot draw.
Yeah he should have peeled the orange first, then shot himself in the river, then flush the toilet
One of the best scene in in time
hahahaha:D
wait, that *was* a joke, right?
RNG punting out miracle rivers as per usual.
I forgot about this movie omfg
1:26 its Pete Campbell lmao
And he is looking really hot! !!
He won before that 200 year raise, that's the best possible combination
1) that was a new card, so no raise, but new bet
2) are you on some shit right now?
Drawing dead to 4 outs on the river and hits a miracle - and he's made out to look like a great player. I love movie poker scenes
He got 13to1 so he needed 7.1% and he had 9% so it was the correct call. How the pot got to 600 years is questionable though
Plz tell me movie name
the thing in the middle of the table, i thought it was gamecube console
Anyone know the music in the background of this scene?
-All in
-Call
Both dies
Watching these poker movie scenes hurts my heart
Will Solace? What is this, Percy Jackass? JK I read all the books i'm a total fan
Movie name
