Love this, except if it would've been used, they would need to add to it, and elaborate more on what Quinlan says, as he actually has a rich & unique view of motherhood that is barely hinted at here. He mentions that it is a noble destiny, but his reply, "the female of the species", almost seems contradictory to what he truly knows. Quinlan knows from experience that a mother is much more than just biological, as the mother who gave him his direction in life, prepared him for it, and gave her life (made sure that he "drank her" even though he didn't want to) to ensure he would survive when his father trapped them, was not his biological mother - but a "true" mother. The writers had an excellent opportunity to have Quinlan eloquently and strenuously enlighten Dutch about what his view of motherhood is. He is literally telling Dutch to do what his true (non-biological) mother did for him - provided him with a "vital role of repopulating the Earth". (Even though Quinlan did not actually reproduce, he greatly contributed to it with everything he did. If his mother would not have rescued and taught him of his origins, how to speak, and told him about his destiny, then he would've been in captivity his entire life, which would've been a thousand years of hell.

Of course Dutch overlooks that to the Born being able to have a family would be a wonderful thing. Especially b/c he can’t play any role in creating new life.

She doesn't overlook it, she's appalled that he thinks it would be best for humanity for women to become the "bread oven" slaves the strigoi already tried to make her like maybe a few days before this. She's traumatized, and her and Quinlan had basically no interaction before this, it's very bold of him. He's had 2000 years to learn how to clarify his thoughts to her, this was bad scriptwriting and OOC.

Me too! His is my favorite "superhero". He is definitely a hero in my book. No other actor could have done this role like Rupert Penry Jones - he is regal, gentle yet strong, and stately just like Quinlan.

I love that quote, too! Rupert Penry Jones talked about his subtle facial expressions while playing Quinlan in an interview. He did excellent work, no other actor would've or could've been the same Quinlan that we know. I also like his smile in the series when he says something like: Think of me as a demon, from the Good Book - and as he's saying the words "good book", he does this little smile, as if he entertained himself by saying that, very innocent, like a child - so cute.

@@SydMountaineer You're right! It's some time since I saw "The Strain", but I remember Quinlan's belief that he WAS some kind of a monster (or at least not human). But, of course, he was much less of a monster than some humans are. He was fascinated by human frailties, virtues and vices. He was simplistic and true, as if really yearning for goodness and human feeling.

I haven't watched those scenes since uploading this one but I'm almost 100% certain it was the only one. Otherwise I'd probably have uploaded them too.
There should be a Quinlan spin off in my opinion where we get to know more about his past. Those flashbacks were some of the best scenes in the whole series.

Simple answer: they have to have some scenes cut out, even 1 or 2 great ones like this, so they can make decent profit, and we’d be properly satisfied when purchasing movies/shows on DVD/Blu Ray

Part of me can't help but wonder if Quinlan is pointing her towards the option of motherhood since he himself wants to have a family but can't. Like, he's pointing someone else towards the goal that he would take if he could.

Quinlan's respect for motherhood and admiration of women's labor could've made for a really beautiful and stand out scene or theme within the show, I just don't think it is written with grace here. Just finished bingeing the show and although he comes off quite cold speaking so monotone and carrying the aura he does, it's easy to see he's an empathetic being and has gained great wisdom from living between humanity and the vampires. Motherhood is absolutely a beautiful, magical, important thing, but if we're going to look at it from such a cold, biological perspective, aside from some women indeed not being fit to be mothers, Quin is old enough to know the population is probably going to flourish and continue way more gracefully with less folks to share limited resources with... Dutch is someone Fet cares about, Q wasn't going to disrespect her like that after never getting to know her in the first place, this scene was cut for all the right reasons. Dutch is going to be important to the regrowth and repair of human society, but having kids doesn't have to be the way she contributes, as great as creating life is there are other great roles she is better suited for.

Dutch was wrongly assuming things based on her own interpretation of motherhood, not his. He just did not spell it out, being a man of few words, his view of motherhood is glorious, not tainted like most others. Actually, he has an AWESOME amount of respect for mothers, due to the woman who was not his biological mother who rescued him, taught him how to speak, and even gave her life for him, and (I won't spoil that part of the episode with his mother, in case you haven't seen it yet), but he truly loved & respected his mother for all that she did for him. Even though she was not his bio mother, and even though she did not know or raise him as a child, when she found him, he was like a baby or child, as he was caged like an animal and didn't even know how to speak, so she took him home and not only taught him everything, but she loved him like her own.
