- Darrell Lance Abbott (August 20, 1966 -- December 8, 2004), also known as Diamond Darrell and Dimebag Darrell, was an American guitarist. He was best known as a founding member of the heavy metal bands Pantera and Damageplan. Abbott also contributed to the album Rebel Meets Rebel, a collaboration between Pantera and David Allan Coe. Darrell is considered to be one of the driving forces behind groove metal. Abbott was shot and killed while on stage during a Damageplan performance on December 8, 2004, at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio.
Damageplan was an American heavy metal band from Dallas, Texas that formed in 2003. Following the demise of their previous group Pantera, brothers Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul Abbott wanted to start a new band. The pair recruited former Halford guitarist Pat Lachman on vocals, and later Bob Zilla on bass. Damageplan released its debut album New Found Power in the United States on February 10, 2004, which debuted at number 38 on the Billboard 200, selling 44,676 copies in its first week.
While Damageplan was promoting the album at a concert on December 8, 2004, a man named Nathan Gale climbed on stage and murdered Darrell, the lead guitarist for Damageplan. Although no motive was found, some witnesses claimed Gale blamed the brothers for Pantera's breakup and believed that they had stolen his lyrics. Gale was killed by police officer James Niggemeyer, who was found to have acted properly by the Franklin County prosecutor's office. The band's manager confirmed there are unreleased Damageplan recordings, although they have not surfaced, and the band has not performed since the incident. Abbott and Zilla have joined the band Hellyeah, and Lachman joined The Mercy Clinic.
Dude if Dime was still I alive I think he would have a youtube channel with his vlogs

A Dimebag podcast would be the best thing in the entire fucking world.
He wouldn't he would always be his own and do his own thing, that is why he is dime
Started that too.....ahead of his time
He had the Damaged Webcast lol I wish he was here to do a podcast!
God imagine Dime, Phil, Vince and Rex all in Joe Rogans podcast, or better yet running their own Podcast recalling memories from back in the 90s.
Dime was ahead of his time. Here he is vlogging and talking shit about computer & electronic music
Why do I feel like I've seen this comment or v
He coined the term being “lit” many years before it caught on.
I'd like your comment but its at 420 and I cant ruin it

We love you Dime....
Until we meet again
That was on his gravestone
RIP to the greatest of all time
See you in the other side, brother dime
people say dimes overrated just because he didn't play 20 minute solos, sweep or whatever....that's bullshit...dimebag did what all guitar players should do, just go for it and see what comes out. Not sit there and make sure each note of the scale is perfect..dimebag didn't play guitar, he lived it...and if you cant at least respect that, then I guess theres no arguing with the ignorant. Dimes by far my favorite guitar player ever. R.I.P. Dime
Actually he did pretty goid sweep and schredding .
But people need to stop overlook Power metal and stuff .
Kick ass records
Dimebag was much more demonstrative in 80s than 90s ..
Dime was one of the few guitarists who had his unique recognizable sound. Like Kirk Hammett, Slash, Kerry King, Dave Mustaine, Scott Ian ect.
Greatest guitar player of all time, hands down 🤘🖤🤘🖤🤘 just my humble opinion of course
I remember seeing Pantera at Ozzfest 2000 in Baytown Texas. Dime prolly did 2 or three 10-20 minute solos not to mention his usual slamming grooves and solos in the actual songs. There was sweeps, alternate picking, four finger tapping, whammy bar dives and everything else u hear in the new era. Difference was, he did it with only 6 strings lol. Wish he was here today to jam...
@@untermensch7764 facts
the best shit ive heard in a long time, he was a very humble person that dont think of himself as better than others....fuck i hate that hes gone...
He does have his finger on the pulse of humanity dont he bro?!?! He says here, what we all have in our heads, but he puts it into words so well.God i do miss that dude!!
dime predicted the future
D1m3bagd just like Jim Morrison did years before
he was the future
Yes Dimedid predict the future, he wrote by demons be driven. Somehow he had the insight to predict his future eternity
Damn I miss this man. I miss the days Pantera were together as band on this shitty planet called earth... Feeling is gone out of everything. Even people aren't real anymore, especially where I'm from.
Billo1281 nicely said bro. Metal isn't dead in my life but it's went to shit for rest of world. How do we as fans keep metal alive for all? Dimes murder fukt everything up. Metal died Dec 8 2004. My horns are still in the air. Now Vinny is gone. Will second Damageplan LP hit stores now? Vinny said arnd 20th anniversary of Dime it wld prob happen. He's gone now. His vault is full of Dimes genius. We fans need this sec album now. Nu-metal sux so we need this. Metalhead for life
Chris Bocook Yeah I still listen to metal but it's mostly all older stuff. And yeah, right when the shocking news of Vince being dead hit me, I realized what we may now miss out on, Dimes music!!! I hope somebody down the line of the family releases the rest of his beautiful music. RIP to both Abbott bros, Much respect, take care dude.
Yeah I know, Dime died just in time
@@chrisbocook2910
As far as the 2nd Damageplan album....... Rita has said she wanted Phil & Rex to perform on those songs when Vince was alive.
So, we will see.....
I wish there's more people like him in this fake world again
This is why Dime is god
GOD
A great musician doesn't need to be exactly precise all the time. You can clearly hear Michael Schenker fuck up a couple of times on UFO's double live record, "Strangers in the Night", but that's the reason people love it the most. It's honest. It's genuine. They weren't able to artificially patch it up later. They left that human element in the final recording. Pantera had the same mentality in the studio.
doctor345678 You sir know your music, GREAT guitarist, great band. UFO should've been bigger. but then again, its like having a rare gem all to yourself.
doctor345678 And you're right again with Pantera Official live 101 proof was a great live album with lots of little imperfections. Real music.
@@Assassin-9 101 proof is one of my absolute fav albums ever! A solute beast of a record and got the chills going just thinking about it!
I was born too late, but I still get emotional seeing him. Something was truly special about this guy.
Same here. Never got the chance to see them live but I fucking live, eat, breath and shit PanterA 🤘 DIME was out of this world
Same here, there was just something about dime u can't replace
damn i miss Dime. he was an honest person with a big heart.
My favorite clip from dimevision!rewound this 100 times!
GOOOOD i fucking miss him!!
Kasper Rottbøll fucking ay brother
Dime taught us to live life to the fullest They were the hardest working people. The soul , energy ,heart and all out balls to the wall, metal that you feel down to the core, this is what Dimebag Darrel Abbott and PANTERA was always about. The more energy the audience gave back to the band, the more they were there to kick ass n take names and we all know how PANTERA completely changed to game. I used to love how Phil would just be up there saying random shit at time. The personality of these guys. I've never seen a band to audience connection, like Pantera. They truly turned it up to 11! Dimebag is a guitar legend and I thank you all for the music that still, I listen to all the time. ✌💝& RESPECT 👊
The kings
This guy said everything!!!
This is the truest shit ever!!.
Where you get that good herb Dime!?!? Damn bro!! RIP Dime. Miss ya man
I needed this motivational message. Miss you Dime!
Yeah he wrote a very inspirational message for you. It's a song called by demons be driven
RIP Dime was the man!
Damn he would hate music now. R.i.p dime love to you and vinnie
To one of the greatest guitarists of all time!!!! If not the greatest!!!!Gone way to soon. Rip brother🙏!! see u on the other side!!
Yeah I'm not a particularly big fan of Pantera nor Damage Plan (metal's not my thing) but I once saw this vid here of Dimebag playing the guitar an I was blown away.
Dimebag gets it! You develop a song over time and the emotions, what the songs about, drives creativity. His out of tune stuff sounded so much better and elegant than most musician's in tune work. There's a lot of great guitars I could file off names on but I won't. I never got into Pantera until this whole B.S. Vaccine the world lockdown happened. And OMG, what a gem this group Pantera is. And this man had a gift like no other. Their song called The Sleep, I've never hear anything like it. The chords almost seem inverted and he changed the chord shape every so slightly but it gave the song life, and the solo, it just blew me away. I've listened to many talk about Dime on RUclips and the one thing I hear over and over is "when he's playing the guitar its like its singing to you". And that's just the way it feels to me. His solos are so good they make you wanna cry. I wish God could bring him and his brother back but unfortunately it doesn't work that way.
He really spoke truth. Let it come out naturally and originally. Computers can never replicate emotion and energy.
Still my Guitar God after all these years. Sorely missed.
This is such a great video of dime!! Thanks for sharing
No it's not
oh this is a treasure! thanks for posting it.. I needed it too... RIP DIMEBAG you are the man.
i wish there was am option to love this vid!! when he talks about leaving imperfections in your music ... hes so right man! too many "artist" these days are trying to overcorrect things where if they would leave the blemishes they would be better off
Love and Miss you and Big Vin every day my Brother! See you on the other side!🤘
Jesus, I really miss this man.
~What is perfect? Dime miss you dude so damn true.Gonna rock out right now.~
You guys, you brothers changed my fucking life. U gave me a reason to breath. Thanks RIP Abbott brothers
Dimebag comes across as a real dude...very cool...🤘🤘🍺🍺
This is truly what real music is and what it should be. Rest In Peace Dime
Dimebag really lived it
Greates of Greates! .... Metal miss you!
101% right.
I miss him.
Dime was commenting on the current industry of music production, not predicting the future. He mentions Pro Tools, a computer software that was first released in the early 90s. He was simply comparing older production methods to the status quo of computer editing technology.
Man the first time I heard this,I was stoked as fuck! To know that Dime felt the same about music as I do was crazy personal. To know that while we were sitting at home jammin so hard to his vision of sound, and to know the reason he played in the first place is because that same sound was drivin him crazy too! Ah man...they don't make em like Dime anymore...
everyone in the music industry must see this
I miss you man...\m/
Legend...
fuck!!!.. I’m crying for this..😢
Well said Dime, beautiful advice ty

Sometimes I miss him so much I can't hardly stand it... and I never met him
Word Up. Peace My Brother.
Well said Dime
I didn't know people did this. Express themselves in a mirror and film it. Interesting.........
Dime would be sickened to know that's exactly how most people make music anymore. All this auto- tune crap. I hate it. Dime would hate it too. I love listening to Dime just talk, especially when he's not lighting sh!t up. In my opinion, he still stands as the greatest metal guitarist of all time. RIP Brothers Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul Abbott. ❤ RE-SPECT 👊
i still think of that first bit, when makin a tune

Fucking perfect wisdom!!!
Word 🤘
I miss him . Sad
Thanks dime!!!
It's like he could see into the future, talking about sampling and running it all through auto tune.
Love this guy.
Legend
the fucking bag dude. so tight
@RedneckChexMix its not that pots "cool". But it does play a big part in many musicians creative process. It brings out some of the most intense licks anyone has ever heard. And btw, Dime changed his name when he was like 18 or so. He was still a kid basically at that age and it was just a name that sounded good, regardless of its connection to cannabis.
Get y'all a big pull from the man
This is awesome. This is fucking awesome.
❤️
God dammit I miss DIME ! R.i.p.
He was not from this Planet! Dime was a Mentor to so many around the world. I think he would have given up drinking for the Guitar if he were still with us today. RIP Abbott Brothers >};D>
Dime for President
YES!!
Is that a kmk poster in the back?
Dime invented vlogs before it was cool! 🤘
Pretty much the same things me and my band love to talk about, kinda makes me inspired and also really sad to hear Dime say the same.
I'll admit to being guilty to over producing things, but when I finally stopped and just went with raw recordings, a good guitar track, a good vocal, some killer drums, the rest was done by the emotion, not the editing. Sure you can control volume fades and some eq and compression, but in the end, if you have to flextime your track, you did it wrong so start over
made my shitty day a lot better! THX
Yeah I got it after 3000 times of hearing it thank you, and I didn't mean I don't understand him cause I disagree with him or anything, actually I feel/think just the same, but english is not my first language... whatever, thanks dude.
I want a whiskey with him rip dime
I love the fact that he has his hair up like that😂
and CKY was born
There is no other musician that I miss more than Dimebag.
