Watching Dressel in 2017 worlds was the first time I started to realize that supersuits times were not unbeatable. Up to that point, there had been very rare supersuits-like performances, like McEvoy's 47.04 in the 100 free or Agnel's 1.43.12 in the 200 free, but Dressel was the first athlete that could match supersuits performances consistently. He went 47 low in 100 free three times and 49 high/50 low in 100 butterfly five times at that meet. That was unheard of at the time.
He peaked as a college swimmer because he was racing so much. Right now he’s trying to train like Michael Phelps, or other athletes, who don’t race as much but they’re different swimmers than he is. He’s a guy who needs to race a lot to be fast and I hope he realizes this because I love watching him race.
This kind of makes me wonder if we could consider Dressel to be a better swimmer than Phelps? That would depend on the level of competition. It seems like swimmers are getting better than they used to be and competition is tougher than it used to be.
Phelps is still the GOAT, only person somewhat close to him is Ledecky. Dressel wouldn't be considered the GOAT due to longevity reasons and Phelps's just overall sheer dominance in his races.
Legend has it that schooling went 49.3 in the 100 fly in practice in a drag suit after Tokyo
😂
@TVswimming-h4zHE WAS PISSED MAN

You are correct! You can’t see it because the logo is out of frame but I’m wearing an SCSU Swim & Dive shirt here as well.

Even Caeleb Dressel himself has said that he doesn’t like being compared to Michael Phelps because they swim/swam such different events 😂
Until Dressel has more medals than Phelps, no. Phelps is the GOAT of swimming.
