You are right about how easy is to get access to the cars during the events. Even at the 24h race, if you get up early enough and beat the crowd, you can nicely walk along the pits and inspect the cars at your own pace.
Porsche had in Stuttgart, in the Museum, a special "917" expo. And were a lot of them exposed, even "exploded" engines, so you could see the parts, etc.
Both Porsche and Mercedes had a lot more "older" cars exposed when they were running the "old" museums. At Mercedes you even had to take a bus INSIDE the factory to visit it.
Yay, more T-5R love! I fell in love with it after a complete stranger offered me to go along with him in his T-5R on a ''cruise,'' I guess. One thing he told me that I won't forget is:

Even I didn't join that event because we went to driftday that day it was still awesome to hear the cars passing by at the track

oldtimer grand prix is always a pleasure. what really fucks me up are people bringing dogs there. i saw a few shacking and completely frightened dogs. some of them must have died when the m1 procars passed by

Other teams lobbyed the event organizers to implement restrictions on the Audi mid way through it's first season limiting wheel width and a turbo air inlet restritor but after it still domonating it was simply not invited next year

When the weather is nice you have some great events at the ring the old BMW race cars and i don't even like new BMW.s. and the even older cars wow. As i have mentioned before the events seem so customer friendly other places could learn from the ring
