A couple years back, when I watched this on tv. My dad came out because he heard the Harmonica and thought I was watching "Once Upon a Time in the West." I said, "No, This is Muse." Then he explained to me where that Harmonica part came from. Needless to say, "Once Upon a Time in the West" is now my favorite movie. Thanks to this concert.
The opening 'Man with the harmonica' is written by Ennio Morricone. It's the theme tune to 'Once Upon a Time in the West' directed by Serge Leone and produced in 1968.
Many of you didn't grow up with the harmonica as an instrument. All I can say is that it is a badass form of music, and you don't know what you are missing.
Now they played the harmonica when I went and saw them in Chicago for the Let it be Christmas event and it may be amazing to hear this with headphones, but live...you become entranced. It's a sensation I'll never forget.
This is incredible, to come up with Knights of Cydonia is beyond incredible, but to come up with this opening as well makes it the most epic song in the world ever. And dont even try to argue with me.
Fantastic!!! This music of Enio Morricone is special! Open this other special music from Muse was a very good idea! Muse gives my respect as one of the best bands of the last years, with Rammstein... but with this clip they goes to another concept for me! Very very nice!!!
I saw a Muse concert on cable & flipped out. GREAT band, wildly eclectic. I can hear influences from prog or art rock to, new wave, alt & straight up metal and classic hard rock. Then I see them play THIS! Freaking ballsy & shows what they're willing to do! Man just a really great band doing an obscure as hell cover. The are the antithesis of mtvified & approved corporate shill dictated cool music! True artists carve their own path! Talk Talk, Joe Jackson, Mak Tub, they're in great company!
I saw this version a few years back, until that point I never knew a harmonica could be made to cry like that. It sent goosebumps all over my skin, I come back periodically to electrify myself again.
Man, I stumbled upon this looking to show someone a clip of "Man with a Harmonica". What is this sorcery that I found? I write often, and when I do, sometimes I play music to reflect the mood of the scene I'm writing. Next time I create an epic fight scene, I'm putting this on, because as soon as they transitioned to Knights of Cydonia, I was pumped up enough to punch through the wall and go cut down the tree in my yard with a butter knife. I think I like this band.
there's pure powerful energy in all their music...and the lead singer must've been in the choir, also I found out 'Follow Me" is a Christian song if you look it up. absolutely beautiful cowboy rock song and I hate country music oh well...
Seen this live at the Etihad gig in 2019 and it blew my mind. I now watch this on an almost daily basis. The intro with just the harmonica has me hooked, then the guitar and drums kick in 😍😍
It's 6:10 AM Sunday 10 January 2009 in Bay City Michigan and I just finished four hours ago my DJ/KJ job and watched the "Muse" for 1st time in my life. What a spectacular event enjoyed the song. What a great medium RUclips has become. Chuck KJ/DJ AA8IY
In reverse for me, I was watching it and my Dad came in for the same reason. I said no it's Muse, they love Ennio Morricone and Spaghetti Westerns. So he unusually gave a modern band some consideration and watched the rest of their set... ...now he listens to Muse regularly in the car. :)
I just jizzed in my pants. Omg. Omg. Omg. I love the man with a harmonica reference, I've been addicted to that song ever since we watched a clip of it in my film class. But now my favorite band covers it!!! And does a damn good job of it. And uses it to lead into my favorite song by them. The world works in mysterious ways.
OMG, I am going to see MUSE live in 10 days time @ Wembley and if they opened Knights of Cydonia with Man with a Harmonica I would die happy! It is truely an absolutely awesome blend of music and they play it SOOOOOOO Amazingly!! :) :) :) :) :)
Maybe the most enigmatic harmonica pieces ever, used to outrageous effect as an intro on one the most over the top indulgent ( in a good way ) rock anthems of the last 20 years (if ever )
@museobsessed17 Having had the good fortune of seeing Muse earlier this month I have to say I was torn between going absolutely mental and standing still staring at this awesome spectacle and listening to these fantastic musicians with my mouth hanging open... Maybe those you think are stone dead are just overwhelmed? Just a thought...
Who? Coldplay played the Man with the Harmonica as an intro back in 2000. Or, do you mean that Muse, used to play the Man with Harmonica as an intro riff on their first shows back in 2000..? I'm confused.

Excellent spaghetti Western! Henry Fonda, Charles Bronson! They don't make 'em like that anymore!

Not their best rendition of Knights' but Ennio Morricone harmonica gave me goosebumps!
