living room cam was the Panasonic S1 with the Voigtlander Nokton Classic 35mm f1.4. That has yet to be beat I'm pretty sure. Also the best background was the eagle with the green light, and the owl. All that together was straight up magic.
S1 is magic if you manual focus.
If you are ignore autofocus, the S series in vlog 10bit 422 at base iso is great. The high light falloff is better than say Canon. You basically have to go to high-end devoted cine cam to get better. All the hybrids produce excellent images, but they don't look very film like or cine. It's a matter of taste, it's not about bad image, if shot correctly and in log or raw and color corrected correctly all produce beautiful footage. Canon, nikon, sony etc. If you camera doesn't have log, or line skipped etc forget it, I'm not talking about those.
@@Photovintageguy For sure -- I think the lens made a big difference too -- I wouldn't mind seeing Kasey try out more vintage lenses. I totally get why not having autofocus feels less 'free' but man -- looks really good sometimes. Personally I also really like the look of the Fuji XH2s he's using as well but don't know if it's really worth having just as a studio cam. But yeah, it doesn't look as cinematic as the S1 did with that lens for sure as you were saying.
@@TheVeganHeathen the fuji is an upgrade mostly, but not enough to justify the cost. Especially when you see everything else coming out, especially for video.

My Pentax K-70 1080p video crushes anything Fuji and Sony currently offers.
These videos are very niche in the best possible way. I really appreciate that. Solid 10/10.
As an example of other Sony features weirdly left out of high end cameras, Product Showcase Mode is one. USB webcam is available in A7C, A7 IV, but not A1 (which came out between A7C and A7 IV) or A7S III. Currently, A7 IV is easily the best Sony camera in terms of features and usability, even if other cameras might have better specs.
Yup, yup... Exactly that! That's why we got 4 a7IV's instead of a1's - not only did we save money but we also got way more flexibility. Besides, since we come from a long history of using 1DX line cameras, buying a7IV's opened our eyes to the fact that mid range priced cameras do just as good of a job as 6-7,000 EUR cameras, which is especially the case with newer mirrorless cameras like a7IV, R3, Z9 and so on!
@@nogerboher5266 What type of work are you doing? A7IV is the first Sony cam that's interested in awhile, due to features for the price. Only thing that concerns me is reliability
@@ywmedia I opened this business a while back, together with my brother and a friend of mine. We do ''specialize'' in portraiture and editorials but most of our work, I'd say about 60% of our work are weddings, private events (and we do take some public event jobs), newborns/children/pets and recently we started getting a lot of clients contacting us requesting boudoir style shoots, so we're thinking about including that onto a separate website as well.
All in all, because of our style and way of shooting, as well as most of our work consisting of events, weddings and fast paced studio work, we're pretty rough and don't baby our equipment - I mean, it's not like we're purposefully damaging it or roughing it, it's more of a time issue than anything else. When we're out on weddings, doing events, doing outdoor shoots with pets, kids or other similar work, then we don't really have time to take a whole minute or two to carefully, slowly and softly change lenses, swap camera bodies, swap lights/gels, switch gear or anything else like that, we're basically just being as careful as someone can be while doing it super quickly in order to lose as little time as possible.
We were using Canons 1DX cameras before this so I can't really give you a super detailed, long term ''review'' of a7IV body durability but what I can say is that in these 7-8 months that we have the cameras, we haven't had any issues with them whatsoever - and now that you know what kind of work we are doing and how we are with our gear, I think it's pretty safe for you to deduce that the cameras are pretty solid!
Only thing I personally am concerned about, is the anti dust shutter feature and its reliability/durability, so that's why I turned that feature off. I'd rather have to clean the sensor every two weeks, than have my shutter break randomly on one of the shoots... But maybe that's just me being paranoid.
Sony sells cameras like the do TVs: You buy based on what you see, not what you're hoping to get through firmware improvements ex. bug fixes.

That thing about Sony firmware update to screw up 3rd party lenses is such a Canon move. Said by a Canon shooter waiting for the 3rd party RF primes

I watch DPReview for an overview of a camera, then I watch you for the detailed analysis of said camera! I am not a vlogger, but much appreciate seeing all these cameras in side-by-side comparisons and saving me a lot of money in the process! So, when are you going to review the Nikon Z9?

The s doesn't really do anything for the kind of camera work he does. For what he uses it for, the xt4 is a better camera, as Fuji haven't upgraded that line yet. The xh2 will (hopefully) be that upgrade.

You're not. RUclipsrs are the only ones regurgitaging this myth. Colorists don't take this shit seriously at all. Many prefer Sony color to Canon because Canon isn't accurate at all and has less midtone detail. Even back in the FS7 days this wasn't a real issue and that camera is still broadcast standard. Kasey is a goddamn blast to watch but he has no clue what the fuck he is talking about whenever he says "color science". Even Gerald Undone addressed this as a meme. Sometimes I wonder if he's aware of this but I don't think he is, man is way too addicted to buy gear and admits so but people see him as an educator and thats concerning. It takes 1 node to get skintones to your liking or even a LUT like Phantom LUTs. And as someone with brown skin I completely agree with you, but considering he just recently imitated black voice as a "joke", don't think that's the best argument to bring up with Kasey. Its one of them things you gotta ignore to enjoy the channel and just entertain his idea that "Sony color science" is an issue to anyone besides vloggers.

I have the A7RIII - not one great lens. The body cost so much that I went broke.
Same thing happened to me when I got the r4 lol, just get a used tamron lens, works well.
Sounds like most ppl have a lighting problem. Probably shouldn't buy a camera until you're able to light filming with a smartphone. FilmMic Pro is money well spent for a beginner.
Lav mic under the shirt w/double sided 🔽 (triangle) tape, by far the best option for clean audio in a warzone.
Built-in mics are for "SCRATCH AUDIO" (syncing). Camera brands aren't going to galvanize the audio/mic industry.
I think the S5 will be my next camera, nothing else out there seems to match or beat it for the same or similar monies. But I'm gonna be rockin my G9 for at least a few years yet, maybe Panasonic will release their phase detect camera in that time 🤞🤞. Cheers 🍻

kekekeke im the one that asked that s5 question XD. i was about to buy s5 for 1,500 on prime week but i passed cause auto focus is the crappiest crap i ever seen in my life, then was about to buy the sony but g master lense will rip u a new one. so basically i just want something 4k with slow mode ,, i might wait for go pro 11 and see their specs and just buy 3 go pro 11 . for my super super slow mode needs.

I'm forever pissed at GoPro, not a dime or a dollar will I ever spend again on them! But no matter what gear you currently use, the software 𝐓𝐨𝐩𝐚𝐳 𝐕𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐨 𝐄𝐧𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐀𝐈 is very capable of slowing down or speeding up or up-scaling and or all the above...... It's far less expensive than a new camera, and it's seriously powerful stuff! I use this program frequently for up-scaling and I'll never be without it in the days/years to come. Check 'em out if ya ya like, but that program has long since proven itself to me. Cheer's 🍻

Sony still a bit too red-faced :) Fuji F log2 I liked better. Bit too yellow maybe..and the wall too dark. Astia and Nostalgic Neg too much yellow. Orange shirt even! Nostalgic Neg looks a bit soft too somehow. Sell the xh2s asap ;) You still need try the gh6 pana leica combo for wildlife video, street vlogging ánd the home studio setup. Would be fun and meaningfull seeing you shoot with the newer widest pana leica 9mm 'vlog' lens. And the 10-25mm Leica DG! Will they be a match in some areas maybe, compared to the full-frame Sony with the big Sony 20mm?? At 9:05 the dp reviews perspective is unfortunately all about photos and being budget friendly. Sigma somehow is able to give 20% sharper results in lower shutter speeds than Sony 200-600 but for everything else 200-600 kicks Sigma around. I don't understand why dp review is so focused on photo heavy reviews when clearly photo innovation are peaking. Video is where all the innovation lies ahead.

@@matthieuzglurg6015 No doubt about that, more people are into wildlife and sports photography than video. But the difference between prices of Sigma and Sony is not that significant if you are more than an enthusiast. Also, video is far more complicated than photos and if a lens is better in that area than it should be recommended above other options.
@@matthieuzglurg6015 I agree with this. After all, all these Sony DSLM technically are no video cameras but rather 60% photo and 40% video. They're hybrids, but if they'd be real video cameras they'd have features like backup or relay recording and built in NDs and it wouldn't really have stabe or electronic stabe.
I think DPreview was spot on. Been using this camera for a few days now and it is incredible. I just don't think this camera was meant for vlogging or in auto mode. I never trust auto anything on any camera. Auto anything is for HOBOS 😂😂
The flog2 and astia looked way nicer than sony’s colors which make your face look super red (ironic cuz usually fuji has a magenta tint)

You're better off with the BMPCC4K at 2.6k 120fps as your sensor area is a bit larger over the 6K Pro (2.6k), even tho it's a smaller sensor.

Still wanna see you to try out the A7 IV. I allready used it but upgraded from a Sony A6400. So I could even bought an A7 III I would be pleased with my new setup. But I would like to see what do you think about the new color sience and how much you lose against the A7S III.
Do you use it for photography as well? What do you think about the upgrade, given that the pixel density is less? (I'm thinking about going from the A6400 to A7IV as well, but use it mostly for photography).
@@nielsaerts9971 I love it, but more for the reason I got the new menu, IBIS ,better controls with more buttons and way more battery life.
I shoot more Macro but I allready got very nice pictures. But I also think the A6400 is allready good enough for me from the point of the quality of the pictures. But the ergonmics are just so much better for me. So if you're fine with your A6400 in the ergonmics department, and like you pictures, you don't need to spend that much money. Both of them take good pictures.

Sony a7siii best camera ever, case closed. If your photos are just social media, it still works great. That IBIS on the a74 reminds me too much of the a7iii. A bit ehhh. If your tripod-in it all the time all are good options. I’d go a74 over the a7iii all day.

Flog-2 on the Fuji was the best by far. I feel like maybe you made the Sony colors too warm trying to mimic Canon colors? lol I totally agree that you getting the Fuji was a great learning experience for everyone and you probably should sell it unless you want it to be your living room camera (the one thing it seems to do really well.)
Regarding finding a $200 camera, the sony HX20v, which I own, can be found on ebay and takes good video. Audio is very good as well.

Have you tried to set an offset to the auto whitebalance on the sony? If it is consistantly too warm outside add a offset of some blue.
Then it was a weird blue tint, impossible to perfect.

There’s a Lumix 18mm prime?
There is one thing the A1 does that the A7siii lacks, and that you would use: crop mode. If you use it, then in video you get 4k60 oversampled from 5.8k, so it looks amazing, and if you use the 200-600 at 600mm, then it means you get an equivalent 900mm without using a TC. You can insta-switch to FF mode with a button and go back to 600, or back again to 900 etc. You could also use that 70-350mm APS-C lens and get 105-525mm and actually use it for 4k, so you get a compact system that does great video. Not possible on the A7siii.
$9600 CAD to do aps-c crop mode 4k 60p? What a bargain! Much better than the 4k 120p 924mm I get with the 1.4x teleconverter on my A7S III. Sounds totally worth the money.

You can buy a whole A7S III and an A7 IV for less than the price of an A1; heck, upgrade the A7S III to an FX3 at that point. And then you have two cameras. When you're using basic modes like locked off 4K24, the A7 IV is the best Sony because it has one more programmable control dial, focus breathing compensation, and the fully separated video and photo modes. And then you have the A7S III for all the extreme modes.
