      I wish I could go on a cruise but I live on dissabillity benefits in Sweden and there is no way I would be able to afford it, so I live vicuriously through cruisetube.

      However IF I could go on a cruise I have narrowed it down to Princess (Sky princess or Disscovery Princess).

    Princess has the smallest cabins and balconies of any ships we’ve sailed. Additionally you pay extra for a couch with Princess, (a couch is considered *premium). The shower curtain is ick! To do away with them, would be a nice upgrade. The beds are exceptional. We’ve probably cruised more with them than any other cruiseline for their itineraries. We’ve booked suites 3 times, and the rest of the time balcony staterooms. The Discovery is a beautiful ship. Edit: we absolutely enjoy the medallion and the app! It just made cruising so much easier. I agree with last names being posted on the outside of the stateroom door, but oh well. And as far as the activities being difficult to view on the app, they are hard to see on a phone - but - If you have a Kindle or tablet, they are much easier to read. As far as the coffee package, you can use it at any coffee station, including the buffet. Happy cruising!

    Thank you for this video, I enjoyed your perspectives.
    I wish you had talked more about the enrichment/cultural programs. For many people, this is a huge part of the Alaska cruise experience!

      Glad you enjoyed the video! And yes the Naturalists and others that Princess brings in the ships are great!

    • @nomadiccleric5672
      @nomadiccleric5672 5 месяцев назад

      I just got back and honestly, I'll disagree with the reviewers, the enrichment/cultural content was very sorely lacking and maybe my biggest disappointment. There wasn't a single hint of Native culture anywhere in the entire ship. No music, no art, no traditional foods, and no history or education. It was a shock to me. I also found the naturalist disappointing. He was an author by background, not a scientist, and this was very apparent. His talks made good stories but full of inaccuracies. He referred to orcas with the outdated term killer whales. He stated they're only recorded killing humans once, with a story I haven't been able to substantiate, and ignoring several deaths I was able to look up with a quick Wikipedia search. He stated you lose 75% of your body heat through your head. And these were just a few random things that annoyed me enough to fact check and remember. I'm pretty sure a large amount of what he said was nonsense. As you said, people want this on an Alaskan cruise, I don't understand

    Just took our first cruise and it was on the Discovery!
    We liked all the things you liked.
    Our cabin attendant, Wilfredo was amazing. I think every time we left the room, he came up and refreshed our room. I think the Medallion app allows them to know when you have left your cabin so they can be so discreet.
    I thought the medallion app was amazing.
    I’m afraid we may be disappointed on our second cruise!😂😂

    We cruised on the Regal Princess and really enjoyed it. Yesterday, we booked on the 29 day Vancouver - Singapore on the Discovery Princess in October 2025. I think that I would agree with just about everything you said. We liked the food a lot, other than some of the MDR steaks. We thought the buffet had a huge selection that was well prepared,
    We were going to book a cruise in Japan on Celebrity Millennium but we really liked the entertainment options on Princess better. Celebrity has a slight advantage with service, especially in the MDR.

    You two are so fun to watch ! I appreciate how you talk about likes and wishes. It's positive and kind, you are not negative or destructive in your comments . This will be the first cruise for my husband and I . Our kids and their spouses bought us a cruise to Alaska as a 40th Anniversary present. I was so happy to hear about the World Fresh Market and all the complimentary restaurants. You covered so many questions I had and I loved your short clips of the different places. I was confused about eating dinners at night. I was told to make reservations for the dining rooms and that it's a bit more formal in dress code. Is the buffet ( World Fresh Market) and complimentary restaurants closed at night? I'm gathering from your comments that the dining areas are still complimentary but it's more sit down, formal and you can order specialty type foods? I up to read answers from all you experienced cruisers. Can't wait and thank you this most informative blog. Loved it.

      Thank you for your kind words!! You will love your cruise. The buffet and main dining room are both complimentary and open for dinner. The main dining room is more formal where they bring you appies, entries and desert. If that's not your thing then the buffet has lots of options as well. The food is wonderful on the ship.

      Thank you for the support! If you are claustrophobic I wouldn't book an inside cabin and I'd go straight to the balcony. Don't risk trying to win an upgrade. Sometimes before the cruise they will email out offers to bid on an upgrade. Even if you get this, you're not guaranteed and upgrade. Hope this helps. All the best. 🛳️☀️

      You're very welcome 👍 Enjoy your cruise! We have gone to Alaska twice, once on Norwegian and once on the Discovery Princess. Norwegian had a lot more families and princess was more of a quiet relaxing experience. They were both awesome but it just depends what sort of a trip you're looking for. If you look back in the channel we do have a vlog series of Alaska on the NCL Joy which is the sister ship to the Bliss that is currently going to Alaska.

    How funny you mention the cellphone issue with the lamp usb plug, when I had my phone plugged in I couldn't use the touchscreen as it wouldn't sense my fingertip and I would have to unplug it to use the touchscreen! There's something funny going on with those lamp usb plugs!
    We were in cabin C431 (interior where the hallway jogs) and we also had carts on either side of our cabin door all the time! But our cabin steward was also very discreet as we rarely saw him but our cabin was always refreshed when we returned to it. The Bridge Cam on the TV was the best thing for an interior cabin as it connected us to the outside world and also gave us a heads up if the Captain had any announcements about the scenery or wildlife sightings.
    We also learned that there is a little icon next to your names on the cabin door screen which would indicate if you were in or not, I think this is how the cabin stewards know whether or not to knock.

    • @NorthernVikingExplorer
      @NorthernVikingExplorer  2 года назад +1

      Hi David, thanks for watching! It's interesting that you had issues with the lamp charger as well. You're probably right the room Steward can likely see if you are in the room on your digital door sign. That would make sense to why they are so sneaky.

      There were young adults on this cruise however not as many as cruise lines like Royal Caribbean, Carnival or Norwegian. The entertainment was great and it was relaxing. But if you're looking for things like water slides, bigger deck parties, Flowriders, Gokarts etc. Probably look for the cruise on those other brands.
