    Just ordered one, using it as a midi controller has been one of the main selling points for me.
    Stoked to see some one implement what I have in mind.

    Wow, you JUST posted this. Thanks! I was wondering how the new Omnichord OM-108 worked with MIDI, considering that some people have spoken unfavorably of the original Omnichord MIDI implementation. Seems Good.

      I'm glad this video found you! Yeah I think the midi implementation is great fun, although one weird feature is that the chord and strum channels seem to output different velocities, if you send midi to one instrument with velocity sensitivity receiving all channels (I tried with an electric piano) you won't really be able to balance the chords with the strums. It's easily solved by having multiple instruments to chain though. I'm excited to actually get the model D working on the bass channel, that was my own user error but it gave some interesting results.

      @@purple_martin I had some trouble getting the Omnichord MIDI to register on a few old samplers (Akai and Yamaha VSS30 mod), but worked pretty well on an old Alesis Quadrasynth and Oberheim 3000. I've had the best luck running it through EHX "9" series pedals, which gives you lots of different sounds without the MIDI issues. It sounded great through the Mel9.

      Can you plug the midi directly into Logic audio on a computer or do you need a keyboard in between? Thanks for letting me know

    Hi there, I got one of these yesterday! I am having an issue where the velocity of the chords are way softer than the velocity of the strumpad. Do you know how to solve this? As I am not getting the full effect of my synth patches using the chord functions. If you have experienced this too, and not found a solution, we should send emails to suzuki to push for it in an update!

    • @purple_martin
      @purple_martin  Месяц назад +1

      @@lophophoraflower9794 yes I did have this same issue. As far as I know there’s no workaround to change the velocity of any of the midi notes without using some external hardware to modify the midi signal. My solution was to use multiple synthesizers in a midi chain set to the respective midi channels for the chord and strum parts, that way I can fine tune the relative volume of the chord and strum as well as introduce some variation to those synth voices. I’d definitely recommend giving it a try if you have multiple synths! But yeah, I agree that uniform velocity would be the most useful though for a single synth, I wanted to do this with a Yamaha Reface but the velocity issue kind of made it unusable for that case. I’ll gladly join the cause of emailing Suzuki about this!

    • @lophophoraflower9794
      @lophophoraflower9794 Месяц назад

      @@purple_martin Thanks so much for the quick response! I do have multiple synths. But running the chords to one synth and the strumpad to another doesn't really solve my issue (that's exactly how I want to run it), because the actual velocity of the chords isn't triggering my patches correctly. It would just be better if the velocity could be set to maximum, or even better, if velocity could be controlled with the "Chord Volume" Knob. If velocity could be changed the volume knobs, I think it would be very fun to play with. The same could go for the strumpad and its respective volume knob. I have emailed suzuki already, hopefully they fix it!

    • @purple_martin
      @purple_martin  Месяц назад +1

      Ooooooh yes that makes sense. The volume knobs controlling velocity would be an amazing implementation, I hope they can add that with firmware! For this video I used the Mega FM on the chord channel and the patch I used didn’t respond to velocity at all so I didn’t run into that issue but I could see that being a problem with some synths.

    • @lophophoraflower9794
      @lophophoraflower9794 Месяц назад

      @purple_martin yeah that’s like the only way it would work properly; if the synth didn’t respond to velocity! And yeah, the knob velocity function idea came from reading the manual - there is a section about turn on or off “Volume CC” I thought that maybe that is referring to velocity levels, but I don’t think it is? Do you know what that is in the manual?

    • @lophophoraflower9794
      @lophophoraflower9794 Месяц назад

      @purple_martin and you should definitely email Suzuki about this idea too! It might make them think about it!

      Sony a7S II with a Rokinon 24mm f1.4 manual focus lens. I think I got the lens for something like 25 dollars sold as/is for parts, but they are usually still a mega value used if you don't mind manual focusing, it's been great for wider angle astrophotography, pet photos, synth videos, probably my favorite lens I own.

    Hi. Can anyone help me confirm whether there is an option to program a chord progression through chord memory like on the OM-84. I’m not seeing any information about whether 108 has a chord memory interface at all (even checking in the manual). Anyone have any updates on this? This is my main sticking point about the unit…

    • @purple_martin
      @purple_martin  4 месяца назад

      I don't think the om-108 has chord memory like the older models. I didn't see it in the manual and there is no button interface for it on this unit either so I don't know how it would be accessed. Hopefully someone can prove me wrong on this. Sad omission, looks like you have to memorize and play the chord changes yourself 🙁
