- Tears For Fears on Ghosts, Demons, Death, and The Tipping Point
Tears For Fears sit down with Kyle Meredith to talk about The Tipping Point, their first album in nearly twenty years. Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith discuss the ”painful process” that lead to the album’s completion, including a series of covers and speed dating with young producers that resulted in a record that was abandoned before putting trust in their own partnership. The two then discuss some of the heavy themes on the LP, including how what was happening globally was to be represented in the songs, how tackling topical songs has changed since their early days, and Roland’s use of ghosts, demons, and the dead in his work. We also hear about the band’s upcoming tour with Garbage and their thoughts on making more albums in the future. Видеоклипы
Thank you for watching! If you liked it, PLEASE SUBSCRIBE! I’m posting three new interviews every week!
I really hope someday Roland decide to write a book about his life 🤞
I believe he did, Life After Rock and Roll, I think.
Tammy, a book by Roland would be so awesome!!!
There’s a novel called “sex drugs and Opera” he wrote in 2014!! IDK if it’s still in print or what? Check it out bc it’s in part his real experiences!
I don't.
@@KC-kh8df I just finished reading it and I would recommend it to others! It’s a quick read and there are some funny moments. I enjoyed trying to figure out what was based on real life and what was fiction!
🤩 I’m a Curt Smith fan girl, but how can it be that both Curt and Roland have never looked better? They are both aging so handsomely.
@Angel Jones They are both so good looking but Roland is my man!!!
@Angel Jones I have loved this group for decades. I saw TFF w/o Curt only during Elemental and RATKOS. Roland's song writing and voice live in the 1990's sealed my love for him. But having gorgeous curly hair, full pouty lips, big hazel green eye and great smile doesn't hurt.LOL😍🥰☺
@Angel Jones lol I understand! My BFF was a Roland lover from way back during his SFTBC look..once I saw him with that long curly hair during The Seeds of Love Era I understood why she crushed so hard on him. We were too young and broke to see them in concert but she bought the Going To California concert disk...after watching it I was crushing hard too. We both were determined to see them live for the next album no matter what! I'm going to the one August 2nd at the Hollywood Bowl. Fun fact Pale Shelter was filmed near my elementary and Jr High School in Westchester California and at the LAX airport!!
@Angel Jones Thx!!🤩😘
@Angel Jones unfortunately no. Other than youtube I hate social media
I saw them Thursday (7/20/23) in Denver. They are Fantastic!
The first album i got as a child was tears for fears songs from the big chair and since then i never stopped listening to That because it was a great classic album .. .a.great huge success in Brazil!!!
I would love to pick Roland’s brain about astrology, death, grief, and the afterlife. For Curt his book collection and fatherhood. He gives the sweetest father/grandfather vibes. Like he’s a gentle spirit.
"I was in a 3 acre state with a swimming pool and a tennis court, it was hell" such an underrated joke lmao
rivers of mercy is what i imagined TFF would be making when i was 40. I am in my 40s. I love this song. It's so beautiful. It's my goodnight song of 1993 to 2023. Love it!
thank god for the internet, these two lads encapsulate the cool people of the 80's and has reborn the whole jenre of their particular music, the rebirth through this new album is an extension of the old tours that shows their class and craft, talk talk, china crisis ,IMO are in the same bracket, just how lucky are we to have these groups/artists/ genuises in our midst.
I miss Talk Talk / Mark Hollis 😥
Love the colour coordination between Roland's jumper and living room walls
TEARS is the BEST. My favorite since the beginning of time. They still sound better than ever. Just saw them again last summer. They should be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Thanks for this great interview. Legends.
good in-depth questions Kyle, thank you! And thanks to Roland and Curt for the inspiration. Best band in the world! X
Fantastic interview! I could tell you’re a genuine fan, I appreciate that and I’m sure they did!
Roland orzabel was extremely talented in the 80s holy shit
Fantastic interview! Thanks to Kyle for arranging a wonderful forum for my all time favourite British rock duo Tears for Fears! I really enjoyed Roland's brilliant calm and collected answers to questions, full of graceful common sense! Roland is so right to talk about death, even though it's a taboo subject! It's so important to realise that there is no life without death, as Goethe said! All the best to Tears for Fears for their great new album and world tour! 🙂🌻💛🙏
They delivered! I saw them Monday. It was phenomenal!
That was a great interview. Can’t wait to see y’all in June in Tampa.
Curt smith was wicked bass player too
Great interview! These guys are just the best! Love their honesty, their simple way of putting out their views of all topics important in life.
Great interview. Loved these 2 for years.
The upcoming concert should be one of the best - can't wait.
What a great interview. Riveting.
They are incredible.. I’d love to meet them and just say hello..
Grande entrevista.
This interview is great! Very intelligent questions asked of the guys. I am especially happy and proud too hear Roland speak on astrology and how he uses it to better comprehend topics on the world stage. As a fellow 8th houser, I know all about transformation and rebirth.
It's imperative to speak about and shed light on topics that are taboo, dark or uncomfortable. People need to start the dialogue and overcome the fear.
I agree with you I throughly enjoyed this interview and I hope he continues to talk on these conversations. I am glad Roland bought it to the light and I hope he continues to speak on this matter. I’ll be here listening if/ when he does
Astrology has Satanic origins, as do all belief systems constructed by mortals. Judaism and its successor, Christianity, follow God's Natural Laws, as prescribed in the 10 Commandments, and handed on to Moses for us all. We are in the End Times, so get straight with the Divine Trinity, folks. ✝️
@@klausanalschwabs4830 well Astrology is actually used in the Bible so for you to say it has satanic origins is inaccurate. I am just curious why you are checking out this interview when you completely disagree with astrology and all of its “evil”
@@pammyb1316 Please provide scripture references.
@@Es_Elle well if you are familiar with the Bible , you should already know the answer right?
Through the years I’ve said Tears For Fears is my favorite band post The Beatles. They’ve made me look smart again. I agree with Roland, Rivers Of Mercy is a Top 10 TFF song.
incredibly underappreciated band despite their influence and huge singles.
Great interview, finally some senseble journalism
I still think their first album “The Hurting” was a masterpiece
Rivers of Mercy is soooo good.
Fantastic interview..excellent questions and Thankthelordabove that TFF is back with Beautiful and Moving new music!!! xo
Great interview! Thanks!
Ugh, I still love them!
Good interview! So many great songs by this band, hope a few from "Everybody Loves a Happy Ending" make the live set.
That album also dealt with death a lot...
@@progmeup But "When you think it's all over / It's not over, it's not over..."
@@tomsiebert1941 It took me way too long to get that "Quiet Ones" alluded to George Harrison - another dead Beatle (beetle), also known as the "quiet Beatle".
Layers upon layers of meaning...
@@progmeup - I learned someething today! Thanks for that insight!
Thank you from Andye and many in the Atlanta branch of the TFF Travel Fan Team
Thank you for this beautiful interview!! Love it!! TFF & Garbage = TOP!!! ❤❤💯
great interview! I love them
Great interview!
It's been so long since their last album I think I'd really like to hear the discarded tracks just to try to understand their process.
Oh wow this is a great interview
This was the best interview I've seen of the lads. This band is incredible and you voiced the interview brilliantly
Thank you!
Thank you Kyle. And death does not exist Roland.
I love Roland Works in the past. There seems like The Tipping point is missing ABite and a hook. I am not a Musician but a listener of music. Tears for Fears holds A title to be one of the best bands in Decades.
First, they are not about being formulaic. Second, music has always been about a deep, personal message with this band (not a hook). It took several listens of the new album for me to get beneath the surface.
my favorite 80's band too bad i never went to a concert
Hopefully, you'll get a chance! Their concerts are worth every penny.
🤩
not regarding to the interview but was it The Seeds Of Love cd on Kyle’s background?
Close. It was the Tears Roll Down greatest hits. But good eye. :-)
Top band
Tears For Fears on tour with OMD would be the best bill EVER!
OMD were and are brilliant. So many influential records beginning with 1979's "Electricity".
May I recommend the Jeff Mara podcast to Roland where they talk about NDEs everyday. 🤔🧐👍🏻
Os Dois estão morando na Califórnia? Eu ❤TFF! 🇧🇷🇧🇷
Curt lives in Cali. Roland still lives in England.
@@Es_Elle Obrigada 😘

Roland is right, the binary approach left versus right is a dead end.
Yes. Love his answer, doesn't want to upset people on either side. Unlike Curt who loves to stir up arguments on Twitter with his political views.
Roland please stop by enjoy a song fan from day one to day none
So glad he cut his hair. He looks great
Oh I hope not, just pulled back.
@@IndigoDaisey Yes, look at the CBS Sunday Morning :)
wow rolands got style hes wearing patognia
Roland talks like he lives in another dimension or something
Don't know where we came from before birth? Q's of life unanswerable? There's not enough discussion about death & afterlife? Huh? All this has been discussed for thousands of years. A season to reflect on mortality is called Lent. Happens every year.
Ciao Rolandddddd ♥️♥️♥️♥️🥰🥰♥️🥰
Worst opening for an incredible writer(s)
One of my all time favourite bands, but this new album is dogshit. It's music for middle class types to play in the SUV when they're off to buy a new sofa... Because they're a bit bored with Coldplay.
Yikes, guess they can't please everyone! It took a few listens and I love the new album! Lots of millenials at the concert rocking out to all their new tunes. There's a huge fan base spanning decades!
Lol their old now man what u expect it’s hard to keep of with the times when your getting older
PLEASE let go of your beard! Ewww.
Love you anyway Roland.😂
Roland's beard is not 'ewwww'
he looks better with the beard now that he is older. it does need a trim though
