I was there this year for the first time with Bo Scherman, a very good friend of mine and an expert on old jazz and blues, and we both regret indeed not being more attentive to this superb festival dedicated to early jazz. The recreation of the New Orleans Owls by Michael McQuaid was one of many great concerts during the three day festival. To hear these great musicians perform to perfection some of my old 78s of this New Orleans band was quite a revelation. Can't be better that's for sure! Göran Södervall
Its the first time I have seen Ewan Bleach read the music. He is usually a great improviser, but this is obviously an unfamiliar tune for him. Great band anyway and fine playing.
@@mauricecoppen2372 I really don't know, it's 30 years since I lived in UK. If anybody would know , I guess Ewan Bleach would. Economics would be the biggest factor, because I don't imagine Tuba Skinny would fancy playing the enormous venues which could generate enough revenue to cover the costs of flying and accommodating and feeding them for at least 10 days. Then there's the question of permission to work in UK, and taxes to pay, etc. Promoting isn't as simple as some people imagine. Pity, really, that the world has become so complicated.
@@ianlambert8034 thanks ian,can understand what you are saying and although I love tuba skinny they are not as famous as the big stars,on the questuan of being able to perform in front of large crowds, I would have thought no problem, nice to chat ian take it you are in the u.s.a. Maurice.
@@mauricecoppen2372 France, actually. I have no doubt TS can play for a big crowd, it's a question of whether they would want to. Their French tours have been a mix of medium-size venues (often specifically Jazz festivals) and street busking. Can't really see them busking in the streets of England nowadays, can you? lol(whatever that means!)
This is some of the best quality of play I have ever heard for this period of music....

I love the original New Orleans Owls (on CD, of course.) These guys capture their spirit wonderfully, and we have the bonus of modern recorded sound.
Utterly stunning. Such a delight to hear!
I had the honor of singing a gig with Michael McQuaid on Sax and Clarinet in Melbourne..what an incredible player!
A cracking band altogether!
Great set! The band has such a nice easy gliding swing. Thanks for keeping this music alive!
Still very much enjoying this group music by Mary from Ohio!!!
This is so lovely! However, I'd love if the camera man would let me see Josh D, who is so great, and I so much love to watch him, too, !
Very entertaining and fine musicians. Thanks for posting
Mike Davies Fantastic Trumpet playing.
10 out of 10! Super Sound.
I love Ewan Bleach.
I totally agree. He’s nothing if not a class act.
Especially when he guests with Tuba Skinny

Henk

Nice!

It's the first time I have seen Ewan Blaine in a collae and tie, but he is a great reads player
❤🎉
Lekker….. !
Ewan Bleach, le plus interessant !.....même si on l'entend peu en solo..
why cannot ewan get tuba skinny over to u.k.????
They probably need a promoter who will guarantee to "pick up the tab" for their expenses!
@@ianlambert8034 is there no body who would promote them??
