Several years ago I helped a friend who had a problem with her laptop overheating and shutting down routinely... often after only 10 minutes of use! As I pulled it apart, it didn't take a genius to determine that she had a cat! Cat hair was all through the thing! Clearly her cat had been using it as it's own personal heating blanket! I cleaned the computer, reassembled it and fired it up. I had it working for over an hour; no overheating problems. I gave it back to her with instructions to put it up high... out of the way when it wasn't in use and to turn it off when she wasn't using it.

That XFX looks baller. I specifically went for them whem buying my current GPU, and while SWFTs they had ran like ass with clocks all over the place under load, the one MERC they had ran like champ and was worth the slight extra I paid. If only there was a way to turn off the lights on the side.
You really didn't mention how hard it is to open that thing. I tried so many times with many tools and the little clips just don t want to let the panel go💀
Man, I'm probably coming up on having to do that myself. I am not looking forward to dealing with all those screws around the pipes. However, I'm pretty excited about getting my hands on some of that new phase change thermal pad stuff.
It might not be worth it, but I always polish all the heatsinks I remove with The Chemical Guys Heavy Metal polish...takes an extra 15 mins or so to get near mirror but it makes a BIG difference in temps when you put your new paste on.
My sister has an ASUS ROG laptop and the lower 3rd of the monitor is one giant artifact of flickering lines. Sounds like a pretty standard case for an old laptop, but the weirdest thing is that Overwatch in dedicated fullscreen magically stops the problem. Tabbing out resumes the artifacts, and no other game (even in fullscreen) does the same thing. It’s about 4 years old with some sort of i7 in it as well as a 1660ti.
Ahhhh. The good old factory thermal paste. I am a repair guy myself and "killed" a PC because of this "good quality" paste. PC was on high temps even if there was nothing running and during a stress test hits the 80°C and higher in seconds. Ok lets replace the paste ..... HP used such a "good" one that the CPU fused with the heatsink and parts of the CPU cover decided to stay on the copper -.- Well. Ordered a new CPU and mainboard (just in case more was roasted :D)
I respect and love this channel. I hope more people do what I am about to say but - You mean to tell me, you learned to safely package a laptop AND sending postal packages. Yet you don't know how to buy $2 screw and $5 thermal paste??????????? I'm so confused how anyone can send such an easy task to a repair. Solve problem in under a few minutes? I suggest using alcohol pads to remove the thermal paste. You can buy them in the pharmacy section.
