Fitting A.D.R approved braided brake lines and DBA XP brake pads & T3 slotted brake rotors to my VDJ79R, now I can brake hard in an emergency stop & the wheels lock up and the A.B.S kicks in. Didn't have to go the double diaphram brake booster & get engineering approval to keep the modification legal.
@@troopey7822 I had the wheels off my VDJ79R the other day & I was impressed with how the DBA XP pads are wearing, I thought they might wear down quickly given the extra grip & bite but no, they are polishing up the rotors harder than anything before but I wouldn't run any other pads now other than XP's. One problem reported with the double diaphram booster upgrade is spongy pedal feel or noise. There is the Marks Hydra boost master cylinder upgrade that taps into the power steering circuit but they are not without noise & power steering feedback issues too apparently, most videos doing the brake test have the A.B.S disabled by engaging the rear locker, not how most people drive everyday on the road I would say. I wouldn't get any braking performance upgrade as the A.B.S kicks in now & would do so with any booster or master cylinder upgrades too. Next mod I think I'll do is replace the poxy standard issue Workmate seats with something more comfortable & adjustable.
@@dustyfarmer hmmm interesting. I've got my eyes set on the stratos seats! Sat on recaros, improvement but nowhere near as good as the stratos 3000 LTSS, what you looking at?
@@LockyourHubs4WDing No, the non abs oem 80 series Landcruiser booster is a straight bolt up with the push rod extended 25 mm to the 70 series and it is stock as a rock with a double diaphragm from factory. Save yourself 600$
@@LockyourHubs4WDing No I haven’t personally but watch this from 7:52 ruclips.net/video/BGcUYgzSXGQ/видео.html, looks like a great unit , plenty of pressure, and looks relatively easy enough to fit ( around $1300) ... I’m seriously considering it for my 80 with the LS1 in it !
Did you get that brake booster mod. ticked off by a certified engineer? Brake booster changes from single to double diaphragm are specifically mentioned as needing assessment, you want to keep your insurance valid in the event of a claim.
Thanks, as it's not my car, I'm not sure. I know it had a GVM upgrade done post registration, though not sure if the booster was included in the certificate or not. I'll let the owner know.
@@LockyourHubs4WDing I was just reading about braking modifications & having talked to a tech guy at DBA about my T3 4000 disc rotor, DBA XP pads & A.D.R 42 braided brake lines upgrade on my VDJ79R. The Brake assessment manual under heading, Braking modifications that require assessment, is very detailed and I was concerned that after reading some sections but He told me I was essentially replacing like for like and the rotors are the same diameter and brake pads having the same surface area. I was asked the direct question by my insurer about modified brakes when I recently insured it. If that double diaphragm booster wasn't fitted when the GVM upgrade signed off on it wouldn't be in the detailed submission that goes to your states rego office from the certifying engineer and goes on the mod plate &/or rego details. It really sucks, I wanted to fit some projector headlights after watching your vid. on L.E.D headlights as projectors are the bees knees performance wise but an engineer told me it would cost me about $10K to get him to do all the testing & report writing to get them to approval stage on my vehicle. Funnily enough, the projector kits you can get online are not legal for road use anywhere in the world.
I understand to be legal, with projector retrofit, or any high powered light regardless of the technolodgy used, the low beam pattern of course needs to be compliant, and the low beam need to be self leveling and headlight washers.
@@LockyourHubs4WDing Headlight washers, I asked a bloke who sells them about that, He couldn't explain why I needed water washers just that they are on modern vehicles. I think there could be a risk my VDJ79R plastic headlights might melt with projectors fitted, the washer jets could be handy for putting out the fires.
Tell us about the best mod you've done to your 70 series.

The braided brake lines made a heck of a difference on my 80, it's a great mod for any 4WD.
@@dustyfarmer thanks for info mate, was shocked how bad the brakes are, I'm still tempted to get the booster

They're starting to get thinner on the ground in Aus too. And the prices are starting to skyrocket!
i reckon a Marks Hydraulic system would have been a good option as well

Lazy install. Just remove master cylinder properly.
Bent and kinked brake lines not good
And have to bleed the system?
you dont need 2 do it that way.
To do what?
