I was in 88-92, No one cared about the final PFT. The final drill was EVERYTHING. Inspection was funny for me. I forgot what I shut at the range so my junior DI had me wear all three shooting badges. The series chief DI did his inspection and asked what's my problem. I explained that no one told me what I shot at the range so I should wear all three. He looked at the SDI and then told what I really shot. (expert) That was a highlight from boot camp. Oh rah 1988.
Wow, I aspire to become a Marine officer and that Battalion Commander definitely sets an example for being intimidatingly professional. Marines definitely set a higher standard.
This brings back a lot of memories even though I’m an Army Engineer Staff Sergeant retired. I still can remember my Drill Sergeants face and stature and his toughness and fairness. I was in the 3rd squad of the 2nd platoon of C-2-3 at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri. Last cycle to graduate before the Christmas break in 1974. As plain as day. 48 years later
9:00. Shoes were outstanding. I was in Alpha, but a different platoon. Our SDI had us place floor wax on our shoes. Probably the whole company did that. About the time we got to the Fleet the shine was starting to crack and the wax was discoloring the shoes. Footwear was not serviceable. Had to buy the Corfams..
I agree, everyone that I served with and went to bootcamp with remembered seeing this and if the camera had not been there that guide would have gotten an awesome ass chewing on the spot and gotten trashed as well.
Everyone who watches these videos and didn't go to boot camp, have no idea that this is the G rated version. Once those cameras are off, welcome to the real boot camp.
I would do anything to be in any of they're place's. I've watched this 5 part video over 20 times. Among other documentaries. Tomorrow I'm gonna talk to a Recruiter. Bless The USA. Bless the world.
That was LtCol Kaestner CO of 1stRTBN at the time. He was a Vietnam Vet. This video was filmed in the spring of 1989 and I knew most of the Drill Instructors in the video. The Senior for Plt 1049 Sgt Venable picked up Merit SSgt during the cycle and is a retired CWO4. I worked in the Motor Pool at MCRD San Diego from 1988-91 before I went to the Drill Field. Gerald McRaney (Major Dad) narrated this video.
For all those shipping out to recruit training. Good luck! I don't remember much of my first week there but remember they didn't let me sleep for three days. It really sucks the first week.
You do everything correctly and don't cheat, you'll become 70 percent stronger at the end of boot camp. I went from 3 Pull-ups to 24 on my last PFT and put on 15 pounds of pure muscle. 1st Battalion Delta Co. Parris Island 1997.
Wow they have high and tights as early as late First or as early Second Phase. My series was cut bald till are last week on the Island. You could barely see are high & tights when we graduated. LOL. Also San Diego recruits have red guide flags throught out training, while at PI we had "piss yellow" flags in First & Second Phase and recieving the red guide flags in Third Phase.
At the 7 minute mark when they are doing the in ranks inspection you can see me in the video. The BC is speaking to the Guidon Bearer, I am the first squad leader standing to his left.
I'm hesitating if I'm going to college or joined the Marine as soon as possible but we can't afford for my college it is so damn expensive I'm the only but I decided to join this year.
That's the kind of stuff that will make you fail the instructors tests; not having mental fitness and confidence. Those are the key things to getting through training in the marines. If you choose to join don't think about anything besides why you're there and what you're doing it for. Because once you think about giving up you are already on your way home from failing the courses.
@JLXOutlaw Yes, you are right saying that retardation and ignorance of a few countries make the world suffer. I have already been part of that behaviour sometimes in my own job where I always try to do things the best way possible but sometimes others just don't care and spoil the efficiency process. They are reckless and try to evade responsabilities. The same happens with thievery.
i was 200lbs and by the time i graduate i was around 160lbs it was fucken hard but at the same time it was the best thing i have ever done!! USMC SEMPER FI
@heroes91092 They do get it at bootcamp now but its a new thing, like very new. They didn't use to issue them in bootcamp now they do and they graduate in dress blue deltas only the guide and the drill instructors where the whole thing which is that navy blue jacket and with red trim that you are thinking of.
@theBrownman28 Dude been in for almost a year. About to go to Japan for 2 years 3 if i like it. Fucking hated but liked bootcamp. Hints make a calendar sucks at first when you look at it and you have like 90 fucking days of hell left but once you get to 3rd Phase your calendar is your best friend. Make sure you have your parents send you information on sports, etc. Also music is fucking amazing so you will miss it. So have your parents send you lyrics to songs. Gl man hope this helps.
That recuit at 7:00 was pitifull, and completely lost his bearing- totally unsat. I was in Plt. 3014, 3012 series, from Nov. 21, '88 to Feb. 14, '89 at Parris Island. that dude would have failed the Blt inspection and recycled. Also I saw their SDI smile at 8:05. Crazy! Also their marching was was terrible, they were'nt in step- look at 3:19 and 5:06- terrible! I know they did'nt win the drill competition. The Btl commander was weak to.
I want to join the marines like just for like this, but like I'm not sure if I'll make it. I mean I'm in pretty good shape like believe me, but I don't know maybe. Just want to also to get even stronger.
@marineman825 The recruit forgot his drill movement in front of the CO...I went through in '88, my instructor would have fed me my weapon when the CO was gone.
So I have a question, when do you get the black and red uniform? Do you have to reach a certain class or something? I thought you got it when you graduated, but it looks like they r wearing that gray uniform
we had a recruit knock the cover off our series commanders head when he did inspection arms during the company comanders inspection. That motherfucker got slayed back at the squadbay lol goodtimes
@Mrspeddy3 Honestly just like megafreak says if shes not on board...maybe its not worth the extra luggage. i went through the same thing when i joined the marine corps. Girlfriend didn't want anything to do with it, i moved on without her and it was the best time of my life being in the marines. you'll never make friends like those you make in the military and you'll never experience anything quite like it. Anywhere. Period.
Marines work out all most as much as SEAL's. your a big dude? good you can carry all that weight. i travel light, but i need that back up fire power. used to be an M-60 and ammo, i don't know what it is now.... a .243 SAW or something.
Do you honestly believe that the current size(manpower, equipment, science and energy consumption just to name a few) and expenditures of the DOD is the "right" size given the state of affairs within the world?
I was in 88-92, No one cared about the final PFT. The final drill was EVERYTHING. Inspection was funny for me. I forgot what I shut at the range so my junior DI had me wear all three shooting badges. I'll never forget that feeling when you're inspected for the last time and you're told "well done". There is nothing like it.
watching this videos has given me more motivation to keep training for the Marines. Thank you
Did you make it?
8:05 gives me flashbacks of when my drill instructor was proud of me during the same thing
Wow, I aspire to become a Marine officer and that Battalion Commander definitely sets an example for being intimidatingly professional. Marines definitely set a higher standard.
The smile on the SDI's face at 8:05 is Good to Go because that shows that Recruit was Motivated to ensure his Senior wasn't Embarrassed!
Thank you for your service and sacrifice Marine.
This brings back a lot of memories even though I’m an Army Engineer Staff Sergeant retired. I still can remember my Drill Sergeants face and stature and his toughness and fairness. seeing these guys push themselves and work hard to become a marine only motivates me to wana become part of the worlds finest fighting force
I ship July 15th, these videos have me pumped!
awww.... damn! it brings back memories! thanks for the upload!
Platoon 1060, 1990. Brings back a lot of memories, used to watch this in the recruiters office.
9:00. Shoes were outstanding. I was in Alpha, but a different platoon. Our SDI had us place floor wax on our shoes. Probably the whole company did that. About the time we got to the Fleet the shine was starting to crack and the wax was discoloring the shoes. Footwear was not serviceable. Had to buy the Corfams..
its so great to see that you can tell that the drill instructor and commanding officer are proud with smiles on their faces
That has to be the best feeling for both the NCO and his platoon.
His weapon got snatched from him. lol
I agree, everyone that I served with and went to bootcamp with remembered seeing this and if the camera had not been there that guide would have gotten an awesome ass chewing on the spot and gotten trashed as well.

Be careful what you wish for
9:10 and on that DI is holding back tears. Good job I'm leaving in august Semper Fi!
Then do it, dude! Get stronger, and get through it! Remember, the hardest part isn't physical, it's the metal strength you need. Semper Fidelis!

DO NOT GIVE UP!
so many fond memories! platoon 1029 Alpha compan here class of 96
For all those shipping out to recruit training. Good luck! I don't remember much of my first week there but remember they didn't let me sleep for three days. It really sucks the first week.
I'm off next year. Not to the marines, but to the australian army. Good luck mate!!
I ship off to Marine Bootcamp April 16, these videos have really helped me, thank you.
How did it go?
The pride those guys feel is immesurable
lol the last guy the battalion commander inspected blinks his eyes lightening fast when he talks
best shoes he's seen... that cracks me up. probably wont be as funny when I see it from their view
14 pullups from 3... DAMN!
You do everything correctly and don't cheat, you'll become 70 percent stronger at the end of boot camp. I went from 3 Pull-ups to 24 on my last PFT and put on 15 pounds of pure muscle.
1st Battalion Delta Co. Parris Island 1997.
Motivated martial arts instructor is motivated.
Lol. Hated boot camp but looking back at it I miss some aspects of it
Yes. The good old days!!!!
I ship off on January 28th. I can't even wait for it.
Wow they have high and tights as early as late First or as early Second Phase. My series was cut bald till are last week on the Island. You could barely see are high & tights when we graduated. LOL. @wize11 I agree. seems the hardest part about phase 1 isn't necessarily just the physical stress but the mental stress as well
Good luck. Don't think about giving up. that's the key :D
I'm joining the Corps as soon as I graduate.
Base liberty in the last week. We had no liberty until graduation day. (1960)
Haha, the old full sit-ups really strain your neck.
fair warning, there is no dramatic theme music while you're there lol
This is great thank you
At the 7 minute mark when they are doing the in ranks inspection you can see me in the video. The BC is speaking to the Guidon Bearer, I am the first squad leader standing to his left.
I got like 3-6 more years but I'm still excited always wanted to be a marine
wish you best of luck!
That seems like the hardest part of boot camp is answering the higher comanders questions i have a fealing i would answer the wrong questions
8:00. Good answer, Marine.
i saw that smile Senior! 8:04 -Marines are'nt THAT bad
3rd phase was a blast
Training to be a driver for UPS was like this. I respect what it takes to be a marine. When I got my brown van I was so proud.
MCRD San Diego it seems like yesterday. I was with India Company Platoon 3071.
I'm hesitating if I'm going to college or joined the Marine as soon as possible but we can't afford for my college it is so damn expensive I'm the only but I decided to join this year.
Good Luck!!!

4:00 holy #@!% I wish I could do sit ups like that.
so why is the tie sticking out at the top? we don't do that anymore but I was wondering if any of you out there knew why these Marines did that.
I want to join the marines like just for like this, but like I'm not sure if I'll make it. I mean I'm in pretty good shape like believe me, but I don't know maybe. Just want to also to get even stronger.

@taybad01 Good luck and Gods speed.
I can do pull ups like a MoFo, but was never able to climb that damn rope!!!
Marines work out all most as much as SEAL's. your a big dude? good you can carry all that weight. i travel light, but i need that back up fire power. used to be an M-60 and ammo, i don't know what it is now.... a .243 SAW or something.
did the recruit out of step at 5:05 bug the crap out of anyone else?
@toadman842 A Battalion Commander is pretty intimidating to a recruit...
8:42 isnt that the guy who in the first episode say that he joined to see if he could do it?
@Mexsicario50 me to :DD oooorrrahhhhhhhh semper fi
@Lousypenguin you have to remember this is old. It's different now.

Do you honestly believe that the current size(manpower, equipment, science and energy consumption just to name a few) and expenditures of the DOD is the "right" size given the state of affairs within the world?
@InsightVidya haha no doubt... no bearing what so ever! he would have been in the pit eating sand!
@buujack The average bodybuilder gains about 10-12 pounds of muscle a year... How do they do it in 2-3 months? Marines > Army
