I had a Doberman/Border Collie mix. He was small but highly intelligent and I didn't need to walk him on a lead after the age of 5. He would walk across busy roads, stand in the middle whilst cars went past on command and went across the road when I told him to. He would also intervene in family arguments. He didn't like any conflict between the family. RIP Charlie

He also loved a play fight. Had thousands of scraps with him, often prompted by him for some mild rough play. LEGEND.

I grew up around a big black and tan male. He was very well trained and socialized with children and small animals. My brothers and I would try to ride him (we were toddlers, tbf). He never, ever got aggressive. We were always supervised. He would walk around with us, and keep us out of trouble on the rare occasions we wandered off. I'm 40, and still adore doberman's because of him. Rip Ace, goodest of boys. ❤

My dobermans a year old and she is such a sweet and gentle softy - she literally doesnt like being in a room by herself and doesnt like to eat if none of us are in the house ( myself, my wife and two girls; 5 and 6).
My only issue is lead pulling but thats getting better with weeks of training

How's it all going? I'm thinking of getting one, but I've got a really sweet gentle Swedish Vallhund that I don't want getting bullied so I'm unsure if a Doberman is the right pick or not.

All depends if you've got it in yourselves to train the dog, to be the dog you want it to be.

I want to buy a Doberman puppy for my family to enjoy, NO show kind needed, but I want a good quality dog good with my kids and to be a good guard dog, and to get along with my female Frenchie. We are moving to Arkansas and I would like to know if you can recommend a good breeder that is also reasonably priced. My son has a very gentle mild mannered male pitbull that visits us on a regular basis and that we love also. What do you recommend?

They appear as frightening dogs with their ear cut, but definitely less so if you see them without their ears cut. The ear-cutting contributed to their bad reputation imo. They’re obviously very sociable and trainable dogs and so they’re good boys in that way. They need to be respected and treated responsibly as they are powerful. Irresponsible thugs shouldn’t own them.

Please, don't say that a specific breed doesn't need protection training to protect... that's simply not true.
