========= Burn Your Crosses LYRICS ==========
No use to pray, there’s no one listening
I will die anyway.
Some say I’ve killed, some call me Satan
Now my blood must be spilled
I’m sentenced for crimes I did not commit
I’ll pay with my blood, is this really it?
Creation of God?
No way!
Burn your crosses, make way for science
Christ has only caused death and violence
Burn your crosses and make way for yourself
Put faith in mother earth.
Don’t call his name, don’t trust in others
Bishops fighting for fame.
Torture in vain. I won’t surrender
Purified by pain.
Mankind’s great mistake was to create God
Creation of man. Excuse to spill blood.
Creation of God?
No way!
No use to pray, there’s no one listening
I will die anyway.
Leaving this place the end is near now
Dying ain’t no disgrace
My last night alive has come to an end
Death once I feared, but now it’s my friend.
Creation of God?
No way!
Burn my crosses, make way for science
Christ will only cause death and violence
Burned my crosses and made way for myself
In mother earth I trust.
NOW BURN!

Context: A plague doctor is being put to death for heresy while the black death rips through the city of a prince bishop somewhere in the Germanies. Welcome to the dark ages.
Edit: Holy flip ya'all trying to defend the catholic church like I'm attacking them. Bruh. This really is the internet.
‘Dark ages.’ And also, they didn’t have plague doctors you are thinking of during the Black Death. Plague doctors became a thing later on.
And also, many plague doctors were charlatans. They didn’t generally actually help anyone.
No it's about a scientist whose findings have been considered heresy by the church, during inquisition.
Sabaton scared me for a second that they were anti Christian, it's yet another historical thing.
@@kegamingvideos3885 Its Metalizer, this album was not based on history, just a fantasy songs.
fire control pratices during these times included holding holy relics against a fire, even if they were basically pieces of cloth. 🤣 well, a church doesnt burn because its holy, its mostly because its made of stone. misplaced faith, but makes a very good example for superstition.
This is the exact opposite of the last stand
One of reason i love Sabaton is because they don't afraid to speak of things as they really are and from opposite points of view. Like 1648 have swedish and english versions which is basically different songs, or Attero Dominatus and Hearts of Iron which both speak of events of the end of WWII in Europe and fall of Berlin but from different perspectives.
@@markfranz7313 I also especially love how they can do both a song about the invasion of France (Ghost Division) and a song about the liberation (Primo Victoria) and then write them from either side of the story. One from the Nazi's (those moffen >:C ) and one from the Allied perspective.
This song is especially one I love as it also puts it into a terrifying historical context only few people seem to learn about in history class nowadays. For how bad The Plague was and how it practically wiped out humanity in a matter of a few epidemics is just beyond words... This song puts it into words and that is a piece of art to be honest.
This is why we love Sabaton!
@@AlexGNRone more thing too add with songs like “angels calling” is that they are perfect at making both sides of the war be going through similar situations with the trenches and no man’s land.

This song is basically a diss track to medieval “Catholic Church” and the corrupt bishops which committed a variety of horrendous crimes against humanity. Hence , no he is not mocking the Christians.
It is also a view of some members of the inquisition

I’m sure they’d never write a song about how Muhammad committed mass murder and married a 6 year old however, and how his followers follow in those footsteps. It’s only okay to criticise religion when that religion is Christianity.
Would it be wrong to mock it ?? Christianity has caused so much pain
@@Vampybattie and Islam hasn’t? That’s the thing, you’re allowed to criticise Christianity for basically anything you want, but god forbid you say anything bad about Islam. Rock on.
I actually suprised that this song is Black Plague relarated, i always though it was about Spanish Inquisition or Inquisition in general, and singed from perspective of one of it's victims.
@@markfranz7313 That is actually surprising to me as I always associated it with the Dark Ages 😅
The ‘black plague’ didn’t exist, you’re thinking of the Black Death. And even so, the song is inaccurate since plague doctors weren’t used during the Black Death. They were charlatans that mostly were hired by cities in the 16th and mostly 17th century, which is 200-300 years after the Black Death happened.
The ‘dark ages’ is also a myth invented during the 18th century to describe the entire medieval period, but it isn’t an accurate term.

I really hate how many people now believe that Christianity and Science are polar opposites when up until recently scientist were all religious and the field only rose out of Christians seeking to better understand the wonders God had created. Christ is Science.
Scientists had to say that they were Christians or else they'd be labeled as heretics.
I would say that the main reason people claim that Christianity and Science are opposites is because as our knowledge of the world evolved, many of the things written in the Bible were proven false. Therefore, unless you are willing to concede that the Bible is not to be interpreted literally, you are effectively denying Science and that's what many people do.
Also, before there was modern Science to explain to us how the world works and where stuff comes from, religion filled that gap, which is why even many, if not all, of the early scientists were religious. However, since that need to fill in the gaps with religion has dwindled drastically, many people, and particularly scientists, don't find the need to believe in a god or practice a religion.
You can see this with the data, as the amount of non-religious/atheist/agnostics has increased in countries where education level is high and increasing and scientists, in most countries, are often less religious than the average population.
Part of that is because the schools were mostly operated by churches and if you weren't religious you were ostracized or even killed. Now that people have the freedom to say what they truly believe and science has discarded metaphysical presuppositions it has advanced even further.

i love the video and love the song, but they dont quite fit together, the theme should have been about the inquisition, not the black plague
No no, it very much fits the Bubonic Plague (or Black Death, the mistake of saying Black Plague is common), since that caused a massive division between following science (plague doctors, and herbalists) or following religion (priests, and chaplains) in order to treat the sickness. It is very appropriate in theme for the lasting impacts it had on religion vs science in the Medieval period
@@KleinesStein and don´t forget, bubonic plague was indirectly caused by the Church. Inquisition burned witches and cats where linked to them and eliminated them, too. So at a given time, there were more rats than cats (their natural enemy). So the flees carried by the rats could spread the disease easily.

Jesus maybe, but his followers no way especialy during the time shown here the dark ages.
you obviously never read the Bible, nor you ever saw what they did to Europe in medieval age.
I understand your perspective, but it's important to challenge the notion of the medieval period being uniformly bleak. While there were certainly challenges and instances of turmoil during that time, it's an oversimplification to paint the entire era as dark. The medieval period saw significant advancements in various fields such as art, architecture, science, and philosophy. It was a time of flourishing cultural exchange, the development of institutions like universities, and remarkable achievements in literature and governance. Additionally, it's worth noting that the Christian religion played a crucial role in stabilizing European societies after the fall of the Roman Empire. The Christian Church provided a unifying force, fostering a sense of community and order amidst the upheavals of the time.
Furthermore, attributing all of Europe's historical struggles solely to the medieval era ignores the broader socio-political and economic complexities at play. Every epoch has its ups and downs, and it's crucial to recognize the nuances rather than resorting to sweeping generalizations. It becomes evident when one delves into historical texts rather than relying solely on the impressions left by films and series, which often oversimplify complex historical narratives.
When you speak of bible in general, I immediately know you know nothing about catholicism. Unlike Islam or Judaism, Christianity is not a religion of the book. The New Testament provides insight into the life of Jesus Christ and his teachings, but Christianity encompasses more than just a written text. It's a faith centered on the person of Jesus Christ, his message of love, redemption, and the relationship believers have with him. Therefore, understanding Christianity goes beyond mere textual analysis and involves experiencing and living out its principles in daily life.
