  • Remember the Alamo! The battlecry helped put the name of the old Spanish misson into the history books. The main building was originally a chapel of the Mission San Antonio de Valero founded beginning of 1700s abandoned by the end of that century.     Early 1800s the chapel was used by Spanish troops and that’s when the building became known as the Alamo, nicknamed the Spanish word for cottonwood trees which grow there.
    Late 1835 Mexican forces where driven out of San Antonio by Texans that then occupied the Alamo. Early 1836, a Mexican army arrived and a siege of the Alamo begun. After 13 days the Mexicans stormed and all the Texan defenders were slain. In April 1836, when a force of Texans took on a Mexican army at the Battle of San Jacinto, the Texan forces shouted, “Remember the Alamo!”.
    Today Alamo is situated in the middle of central San Antonio town, and are open to visitors. You are not allowed to use a camera inside why this video lacks inside views of the mission. However, as can be seen in the video the outside surrounding is beautiful with several buildings and a beautiful garden.
