Another successful game although mainly because of the first game and not because this one is fun to play. For this sequel, they added a high speed game engine and large racing circuits but they forgot to transfer the gameplay over.
I play Stock Car racing mode as I find Wrecking Racing completely unplayable. The strategy from the first game no longer works. You cant race and try for damage points as the opponent cars fly around the track making it difficult to keep up with them, and if you try to bash them, you endup crashing yourself. So that leaves driving backwards and hitting on coming cars and hoping you gain enough points to beat the opponent cars before yours dies. The opponent cars rack up large points so its very annoying to have to try and keep up with them and re-race until you get enough points to continue by a stroke of luck.
So I played Stack Car mode instead which is just a race to first place finish. I just race...but its one of the most fierce games for 1st place I have played. the opponent cars don't just let you win especially as the championship progresses. You will still see some car smash-ups in this mode, but no need to worry about points. I take the pro car as the speed is very important and I wont be deliberately try to smash other cars.
Once the championship is completed I show the death bowls and replays to show these arenas as they are not played as part of stock car racing. This mode is badly broken and not fun at all. All the opponent cars are gunning for you so you don't get to try an knock the opponent cars about. not fun at all. This mode worked perfectly well in the first game.
I close the video with a quick go in Wreckin racing mode just to show how bad it can be. I then add a cheat to show the credits. I have no idea if it is possible to unlock these with normal play.

i remember that in the 2nd track, on that bottleneck, if you just placed your car sideways and let everyone crash into you, eventually all the cars would get stuck in that bottleneck. it was hilarious, and pretty much all i did when i was little xd

On the map you are talking about, do you remember that little bump in the road on the right, right at the top of that big hill that leads down to that right turn that leads to the beginning and the pits and whatnot? Well I would always go as fast as I could on that little bump and it would send my car flying 300mph down that hill, smashing into other cars and absolutely destroying my own.
Absolutely. Was also a huge drawback, because now you couldn't get past the bottleneck once it was full of cars, but yeah, it was hella fun.
I used to put my car there too. The other place was to put the car at the top of the hill and the other cars were forced to go over the ramp and wreck there cars. It was so awesome I miss it

The soundtrack is amazing!
1996 was a legendary time for gaming! That start up menu music almost brings a tear in my eye...What happened to gaming like this?! We've gotten so realistic via gaming that we've forgotten the fun element...Just like the mid 1980's to the early 90's. 32bit era in gaming will never be repeated again, I'm still waiting for something like this "feeling" with the current, boring trend of consoles we have now?! DLC and micro transactions are making me lose interest fast!!!

The PC indie scene is what you are looking for! And ofc you can always still play retro games, I do all the time! If you go for the emulation route for PS1 I recommend Beetle or PCSX on Retroarch for the best experience!
I'm using original hardware (scph- 1002) hooked up to a sony pvm. It's awesome!
Lots of good games coming out now. But as someone else said. Look to the indie scene. Amazing games last and this year alone

This is a fantastic best-selling sequel! In fact, I have this game and I like playing it on my PlayStation 2. Nice walkthrough!
PS1 intro made me soil my pants.
The bowl mode is way too fast for it's own good. It's a clusterf*ck of insanity.
A time a when the only way possible to listen to music during gameplay, was to listen to what was in the game. Result: Awesome racing rock music. I remember working my ass off during summers to pay $300 for this when it came out. I was 13 at the time it was released. Before that I had been playing on a Sega Gensis. Basic game structure. This system was a major game changer.
I also remember for a while after PSX was released, not many games utilized the dual joysticks. I only remember playing one that did, a mech warrior style game.
I'm not sure what engineering went into the built-in audio controller, but sometime play a CD on your Playstation, run a line out to a receiver with speaker towers, and crank the volume. It's amazing quality. It's right up there with my all-tube Panasonic receiver, and that's saying a lot.
Favorites are "Crawl", "Pinnacle", and especially "Little Pig".
And yes, I did used to just put this in my CD player and rock out to it. Major influence on getting me into harder rock.
The demolition derby mode was hilarious and I loved it haha

Better car physics and car damage than Cyberpunk 2077. Man this game was awesome. Played it a lot with friends.
2023, Destruction Derby 2 still had best damage model that not even Race Driver Grid can match it.
This is such a Classic Game on the PS1 !!!It was one of the first Games that I played on the PS1. Great Memories, Also I still got that Game in the BIG BOX in my Collection. ;-)

Incredible sequel
I remember playing this around 1999, and I would get really happy when the Learner Driver would finish, like, 7th, and not come last
Oh man such great times, I made up whole stories in my head about the characters and even tried to help some during my races if I wanted to let them finish higher because I liked them more somehow... Living completely in my own fabricated world, it was such a blast!

The music, commentaries and the seasons/divisions system bring so much, i never felt that in an other racing game... Wreckfest is good but it's far from DD2 i was disappointed

Man the ps1 had some fast load times I can remember it being that fast..
This was my first original PS game that my dad bought for me when buying PS in Jubail Saudi Arabia 1998. Spent hours enjoying this game.
The transition from Mega Drive to this game was mindblowing for me. 10/10 for the fun element.

Just the sound of that ps1 boot up takes me back over 15 years ago, to smells, and feels of the past, lol.
I still have several songs from this game in a huge Playlist I listen to at work and want to head bang every time they come on! (And yeah... Seeing a bald 40 year old dude head bang is anything but cool and thus is why I said "want to" vs actually head banging lol!) This game was so much fun! This makes me want to play it again!

2023, this Destruction Derby 2 PS1 is still legendary although the overall game difficulty is downright brutal!

There's two "Arena" modes, one it's a "survivor" where everyone wants to kill you and the other is a DM where you're like everyone else and also make points, but to get on that mode you need to compete on the wreck racing and they are the last map of each season (I used to die fast on the wreck racings to get faster on the arena part).
The real problem with that game is that the points are fixed, does not matter what the AI does on the track, he can die on the first second and still get 200 points.

I remember we were always trying to wreck as many cars as possible but at the cost of my own car being so wrecked that you lost two of your wheels so you couldnt finish anymore because your car was super slow but it was awesome to see all those wrecked cars on the track

Destruction Derby 2 and 1 are by far the best games in the whole series.
The rubberbanding in this game was staggeringly bad, which is a shame because the racing and physics were so much fun.

this game had the best music of the era hands down. Psygnosis was one of the top developers back in the day.

Long time has been necessary, but I found out that crashing the first three leading cars gives you MORE points. That's how the crash mode works!

I see where you're coming from, but Burnout is more like Bumper Cars, and less like Derby.

Does anyone know why DD2 had only 6 damage zones on the car HUD as opposed to DD1's 10 damage zones?
This was a really cool racing game but I really liked getting points from crashing other cars from the first one. Also all the bowl destruction "races" are everyone coming after you so the race doesn't last very long.

Is it me or does the enemy ai actually not have "rubber banding" in this game?
on the red pike arena if you turn hard left just as all the cars connect at the start of the race you fly right up into the air and cause the graphics to glitch out. loved this game even if I was terrible at it.

That's really weird to watch this after playing Wreckfest whole day. On the other hand, DD2 is really great, I feel like I played it yesterday... not 20+ years ago.
