i remember that in the 2nd track, on that bottleneck, if you just placed your car sideways and let everyone crash into you, eventually all the cars would get stuck in that bottleneck. it was hilarious, and pretty much all i did when i was little xd
On the map you are talking about, do you remember that little bump in the road on the right, right at the top of that big hill that leads down to that right turn that leads to the beginning and the pits and whatnot? Well I would always go as fast as I could on that little bump and it would send my car flying 300mph down that hill, smashing into other cars and absolutely destroying my own.
I used to put my car there too. The other place was to put the car at the top of the hill and the other cars were forced to go over the ramp and wreck there cars. It was so awesome I miss it
1996 was a legendary time for gaming! That start up menu music almost brings a tear in my eye...What happened to gaming like this?! We've gotten so realistic via gaming that we've forgotten the fun element...Just like the mid 1980's to the early 90's. 32bit era in gaming will never be repeated again, I'm still waiting for something like this "feeling" with the current, boring trend of consoles we have now?! DLC and micro transactions are making me lose interest fast!!!
The PC indie scene is what you are looking for! And ofc you can always still play retro games, I do all the time! If you go for the emulation route for PS1 I recommend Beetle or PCSX on Retroarch for the best experience!
This game needs a remastered edition. -Featuring 20 online multi-player ranked matches. -either win by racing or destroy everyone else, and then recruit defeated opponents for your pit crew. -fully customized car creation garage, with lots of in-depth options. -Day and night cycle, and extreme weather conditions. Just a few ideas.
A time a when the only way possible to listen to music during gameplay, was to listen to what was in the game. Result: Awesome racing rock music. I remember working my ass off during summers to pay $300 for this when it came out. I was 13 at the time it was released. Before that I had been playing on a Sega Gensis. Basic game structure. This system was a major game changer. I also remember for a while after PSX was released, not many games utilized the dual joysticks. I only remember playing one that did, a mech warrior style game. I'm not sure what engineering went into the built-in audio controller, but sometime play a CD on your Playstation, run a line out to a receiver with speaker towers, and crank the volume. It's amazing quality. It's right up there with my all-tube Panasonic receiver, and that's saying a lot. Favorites are "Crawl", "Pinnacle", and especially "Little Pig". And yes, I did used to just put this in my CD player and rock out to it. Major influence on getting me into harder rock.
This is such a Classic Game on the PS1 !!!It was one of the first Games that I played on the PS1. Great Memories, Also I still got that Game in the BIG BOX in my Collection. ;-) Who else still got this great and fun Game???
Oh man such great times, I made up whole stories in my head about the characters and even tried to help some during my races if I wanted to let them finish higher because I liked them more somehow... Living completely in my own fabricated world, it was such a blast!
@@ShabbahCore Exactly the same, it was so alive in my head, a real "drive to survive" show (and i was in love with The Goddess) The music, commentaries and the seasons/divisions system bring so much, i never felt that in an other racing game... Wreckfest is good but it's far from DD2 i was disappointed
This was my first original PS game that my dad bought for me when buying PS in Jubail Saudi Arabia 1998. Spent hours enjoying this game. The transition from Mega Drive to this game was mindblowing for me. 10/10 for the fun element.
There's two "Arena" modes, one it's a "survivor" where everyone wants to kill you and the other is a DM where you're like everyone else and also make points, but to get on that mode you need to compete on the wreck racing and they are the last map of each season (I used to die fast on the wreck racings to get faster on the arena part). The real problem with that game is that the points are fixed, does not matter what the AI does on the track, he can die on the first second and still get 200 points.
christ I remember sitting down on my bedroom and front room floor with my new steering wheel controller just for this game.....the game of my fucking childhood, right up there with spiderman, Tony hawk pro skater 2 and worms...damn I miss these
I remember we were always trying to wreck as many cars as possible but at the cost of my own car being so wrecked that you lost two of your wheels so you couldnt finish anymore because your car was super slow but it was awesome to see all those wrecked cars on the track
Man! I remember that Arena track from when I was a kid and if you were facing straight to the sky after hitting all the cars, there would be a circle and I always thought that was the middle of the CD lol
I still have several songs from this game in a huge Playlist I listen to at work and want to head bang every time they come on! (And yeah... Seeing a bald 40 year old dude head bang is anything but cool and thus is why I said "want to" vs actually head banging lol!) This game was so much fun! This makes me want to play it again!
Studio 33, GT Interactive: Greatest game developers ever! I hope they will come all together some day like R8 Games to create a spiritual successor or even a true sequel!
This was a really cool racing game but I really liked getting points from crashing other cars from the first one. Also all the bowl destruction "races" are everyone coming after you so the race doesn't last very long.
Matt, I fully understand your opinion, but I actually liked the fast and furious gameplay of DD2, because the gameplay in DD1 was far too fucking slow for my liking.
Wreckin Racing sucked in this game. It went from being too easy to score points in DD1 to too hard in DD2 and the AI somehow always scored 200 points even though they raced like in Stock Car Racing mode throughout. I agree with the video description in that it was extremely luck based to score points. Sometimes you felt you 360ed someone and never got anything and sometimes you just reverse around the track into cars and magically get 250 points
I remember playing this game when I was younger, I loved it! Although I found it so annoying hearing the commentator say " He's waaay out in front " all the time when I was winning.
That's really weird to watch this after playing Wreckfest whole day. On the other hand, DD2 is really great, I feel like I played it yesterday... not 20+ years ago.
on the red pike arena if you turn hard left just as all the cars connect at the start of the race you fly right up into the air and cause the graphics to glitch out. loved this game even if I was terrible at it.
A impressão que a arte desse jogo me passa é que no mundo onde ele se passa sempre falta 5 minutos pro Apocalipse. As cores são estranhas, é tudo estranho.. mas eu gosto kk
This game was legendary.
+ahmz1404 I forgot how good it is. Need to find a copy now.
MrVolksbeetle there a copy you can danload on android and ios

Like Flatout 2
@@BL95KLike Burnouts 1 to Paradise and Flatout 2 and Head On.

Lol I wished I knew that , I always rented this from blockbuster it was awesome.
Absolutely. Was also a huge drawback, because now you couldn't get past the bottleneck once it was full of cars, but yeah, it was hella fun.
I used to put my car there too. The other place was to put the car at the top of the hill and the other cars were forced to go over the ramp and wreck there cars. It was so awesome I miss it
Hbghg Mnkn Lol I'm going to try that!

Matthew Holyoake I don't have a ps4 anymore...got myself a Pi 3 instead. Retro heaven!

I'm using original hardware (scph- 1002) hooked up to a sony pvm. It's awesome!
Lots of good games coming out now. But as someone else said. Look to the indie scene. Amazing games last and this year alone
you only had one childhood. thats what happened.

DD2 had Liberty City before GTA. xD
The soundtrack is amazing!
1:02:53. The moment we all came here for.
How did you know that lol
Dat menu music...
Sounded alot like that one Sabbath song
Old but gold. Soundtrack have never leave music library for all those years.
The soundtrack on this game was pure madness, just as the game was itself. Loved it!!
This game is my childhood, soooo good
😀
Boobs 🤩
this comment is on every PS1 game video.
1:14:53: That song is so legendary and never gets old!
The bowl mode is way too fast for it's own good. It's a clusterf*ck of insanity.
he's waàaay out in front
Better car physics and car damage than Cyberpunk 2077. Man this game was awesome. Played it a lot with friends.
2023, Destruction Derby 2 still had best damage model that not even Race Driver Grid can match it.
PS1 intro made me soil my pants.

This is a fantastic best-selling sequel! In fact, I have this game and I like playing it on my PlayStation 2. Nice walkthrough!
Incredible sequel
Pure nostalgia
This, Test Drive: Off-Road 2 and Quake 2 are my favorites games with fantastic soundtracks
Mr. Moon Amen! Driver as well!
Watching this reminded me that I've pressing matters to attend up in the attic, there's treause to dig out.
8:55 That hit tho. If that was a wrecking race ( points ) you hit the double max points for sure.
This is such a Classic Game on the PS1 !!!It was one of the first Games that I played on the PS1. Great Memories, Also I still got that Game in the BIG BOX in my Collection. ;-)
Who else still got this great and fun Game???
I came here seeking to hear the soundtrack for this old gem. Forgot just HOW good it really was!
quazzie1 me too
The demolition derby mode was hilarious and I loved it haha
Man the ps1 had some fast load times I can remember it being that fast..
I remember playing this around 1999, and I would get really happy when the Learner Driver would finish, like, 7th, and not come last
Oh man such great times, I made up whole stories in my head about the characters and even tried to help some during my races if I wanted to let them finish higher because I liked them more somehow... Living completely in my own fabricated world, it was such a blast!

The bowl arena levels were literally just every driver targets YOU

Carai... Essa entrada nostálgica do ps1. Minha infância era muito boa 😄
Just the sound of that ps1 boot up takes me back over 15 years ago, to smells, and feels of the past, lol.
The game of my childhood!
My favorite game since 1997.. and my favorite songs
Absolutely brilliant. Funnily enough we've been discussing DD2 today! Good job Matt.

2023, this Destruction Derby 2 PS1 is still legendary although the overall game difficulty is downright brutal!
Destruction derby 2 ...
Me : Total nostalgic
Narrator : Total destruction
christ I remember sitting down on my bedroom and front room floor with my new steering wheel controller just for this game.....the game of my fucking childhood, right up there with spiderman, Tony hawk pro skater 2 and worms...damn I miss these
Nostalgia overload. Thank you for uploading this.
Childhood memories come flooding back when I see this. 😍
Thats the kind of graphics i love. Not too good, not too bad! Awesome!
this game had the best music of the era hands down. Psygnosis was one of the top developers back in the day.
Destruction Derby 2 and 1 are by far the best games in the whole series.
I remember we were always trying to wreck as many cars as possible but at the cost of my own car being so wrecked that you lost two of your wheels so you couldnt finish anymore because your car was super slow but it was awesome to see all those wrecked cars on the track
Memory floods and painful euphoric nostalgia
This was Burnout before Burnout existed.
I see where you're coming from, but Burnout is more like Bumper Cars, and less like Derby.
I'd say FlatOut.
Man! I remember that Arena track from when I was a kid and if you were facing straight to the sky after hitting all the cars, there would be a circle and I always thought that was the middle of the CD lol
2:48 - "WHEN THE RACE'S START"
That intro!!!!!!
I found the best way to score many points was to just wait on the track side ways and let them hit you.
One of my favorite ps1 games! 😍🔥🔥🔥
What a victory in Chalk Canyon in Race 2!! And a fantastic one at 36:20
ohhhh! go easy on the paintwork..
I recalled one of the racetracks was named "SCA"
14:26 Never mind, there it is.
I still have several songs from this game in a huge Playlist I listen to at work and want to head bang every time they come on! (And yeah... So many years have passed, since i ve played this game...But I still remember main rule of survival on arena maps - always go backwards.)
The legend before Bugbear and Wreckfest was born
"Wow! Total destruction!"
Took along time to get used to the driving, but when you do it’s so damn fun.
Long time has been necessary, but I found out that crashing the first three leading cars gives you MORE points. That's how the crash mode works!
Studio 33, GT Interactive: Greatest game developers ever! I hope they will come all together some day like R8 Games to create a spiritual successor or even a true sequel!
The rubberbanding in this game was staggeringly bad, which is a shame because the racing and physics were so much fun.
I don't think I ever played a bad Psygnosis game
Loved this one, the crashes were awesome.
Man this game back then was looking so real
had so much fun playing this game it was great fun
PSX 4ever!
This was a really cool racing game but I really liked getting points from crashing other cars from the first one. Also all the bowl destruction "races" are everyone coming after you so the race doesn't last very long.
Love the boot up of the PS!!
I loved this game as a kid. Good old times! Wreckfest is the closest to this today.
7:19-7:26.; I call "Bull-crap!" on that last part!...
You clearly knocked that car out of the race.
They are 2 different cars, take a look on bumpers
Matt, I fully understand your opinion, but I actually liked the fast and furious gameplay of DD2, because the gameplay in DD1 was far too fucking slow for my liking.
One cool little tidbit on this game: Paul Page did the announcing.
Yes, he announcing on Indycar Racing 2 intro too
dude that videogames so super cool and awesome of the races
goddamn i love this game. the music is so good.
I always knew that in the arenas all the cars are coming after you!
Only in Total Destruction mode.
Best racing game ai ever. So fun
Childhood ♡
As a FlatOut fan, this looks very interesting!
Hope to play it one day.

The commentator honestly made this sound like WWF XD
best ps1 driving game by miles, car went as fast in reverse!!!
I remember playing this game when I was younger, I loved it!
Although I found it so annoying hearing the commentator say " He's waaay out in front " all the time when I was winning.
the best destruction derby game
My wonderful childhood 😌
the yellow car is iconic!
che ricordo ! 😍🙏🏻
Such a blast to play but I swear the single player modes are impossibly difficult lol
That's really weird to watch this after playing Wreckfest whole day. On the other hand, DD2 is really great, I feel like I played it yesterday... not 20+ years ago.
Great sound track and series.
Had this for the PC, good fun.
long live ps1
My favourite in the series.
Still one of the best. It's fun as hell. 🙂
I played the hell out of this game when I was a kid. be awesome if there was a soundtrack to listen to.
My copy of the game sadly got damaged overtime. Still i remember this being a really fun game with my big brother.

Com narração do lendário Paul Page, que também trabalhou na introdução do Indycar Racing 2
He reminds me Larry from Rock'n'Roll Racing
