The Trail
This trail is located inside Taroko National Park and so a permit is needed and can be booked in advance. You can also reserve a cabin space at the camp in advance on the new National Park website:
hike.taiwan.go...
Transport:
The trailheads are located along the No.8 Cross Island Highway at Dayuling (大禹嶺) and Ci’en Tunnel (慈恩隧道). There are limited parking spaces at both trailheads.
There was previously a bus service that ran along this route and stopped near both trailheads, but services stopped after the large earthquake in April 2024.
You can check online to see if the buses have restarted.
We parked at Ci’en Tunnel and got a ride to Dayuling with a local farmer who provides transport and accommodation ($500) from his farm located near Ci’en Tunnel. You can call him to book：

No need to apologize, my friend, we appreciate your excellent work and telling the world about mountain trekking in Taiwan. We did the same trekking back in the 90s. It was a tough ascent especially we needed to take 2 days worth of water…I remember it was in December and we watched water frozen solid in our water bottles. Fun times.

隊伍同行，最好不要與夥伴相隔太遠，尤其是那位落後的隊員登山經驗不足的情況下。
因為相隔太遠，隊員若是發生了狀況，比如身體不適，或是走錯路，或是滑落山坡，這樣你會無法即時發現，給予適當的援助，或適當的求助處理。
對於落後的那位隊員來說，會很危險的。
不過還是恭喜你們完登下山。
Well done Richard and Andrew , looked very tough alright . You have to be very fit so that lets me out . Take it easy for a few episodes like a food vlog or an easier hike , happy hiking :-)
