Hi, I need help with a repair. I found a beautiful genuine shearling lamb skin vest at a thrift shop, but there is a tear on the shoulder all the way across (on the skin, not in the seam) How do I go about stitching the tear without making it too obvious? Also, I only have regular coat thread and crochet thread.
I know this post is really old but on the off chance, you still have that vest and need to fix it, Use the smallest needle that will go through the leather cleanly. Coat thread is pretty strong so go with that. Then I'd actually add a feature or decorative item over it on the outside, perhaps on both sides to match. Something like a strip with a snap for a utility purpose or a pocket. Another option is to make a decorative stitch that deliberately shows. Look around for different types. A bold zigzag might be cool if it's done right. It really depends on the position, angle, and size of the tear. By the way, I love your channel.
hi i do not know your name - video poster - but when you mentioned the Irish linen thread, i looked it up so i can try it. welll.... i found a website that sells it... i'm good at that if you need help in the future. ;).. :) the site i found is: www.fineleatherworking.com/ and it comes in loads of colors. they also carry leather crafting supplies. thank you for the video.
What size of glovers needle are you using?
