They sure do look SO much alike! And yes, I want that family cookbook too. In fact, I want to come to Qinghai for a month to learn how to cook like that. I could become a vegetarian too...! Of course those dishes look like they take a lot of time - all that potato grating! Lots of steps, but I never fail to feel hungry when I watch you and your mother-in-law cooking. Really cool to see her with her sister. Even their hands look alike when they are cooking - I just love watching your MIL's hands when she's working!
Without even realizing it, I found myself smiling more and more as I watch you videos. They make me happy before I even realized that I’m happy:). Thank you 🙏
Your Mother-in-law and her sister! ❤️ So beautiful! Their smiles are so kind and joyful. I just think your Mother-in-law is such a treasure! Thank you for sharing her with us!
How I wish I could try those dishes. So fresh, colourful and healthy. I once tried to make gnocci but other than that never mix flour and potato in my cooking. Maybe that should change. Your mother in law is just so wonderful. Thanks for the glimpse into your life.
I love your gentle story telling style Mima where people are foremost rather than a constant narrative voice over...your choice of gentle background music heightens the story you are telling. I too can walk into my back or front garden in the Summer and harvest whatever I need for a meal...food footsteps not food miles. A wonderfully made film that could have lasted even longer and I would still have enjoyed your film just as much. Thank you Mima💗
Absolutely agree, Kate. Miri's videos are so soothing, yet always teach us something -- sometimes personal, sometimes cultural, sometimes historical, and sometimes educational. There are so many ways to enjoy her videos, too -- we watch them as her vlog, and see how she and her family grow and evolve, and how they navigate life as a multicultural household; we bask in the beautiful shots she captures and revel in her magical, cinematic style; we gain deeper, more human understanding of a country or region we only know from the news or schoolbooks; and of course learn gardening tips and recipes and holidays and crafts and parenting techniques. (I recently discovered another channel that complements Miriam's exceedingly well, I think. It focuses on China as a whole, or rather province by province, but like Miri's it emphasizes the local beauty and our shared humanity. The channel is called Little Chinese Everywhere. I would love if she was able sometime to visit their village and make a video together!)
Miri, your mother in law is very considerate, mine always serves meat even when she knows I don't eat it, its a purposely made torture I think, she always pretends she forgets but its this way years now, same with dairy... I developed an allergy after the virus and she keeps on saying our cows are not allergenic like are they magical :( ...I try my best to be calm and nice but it breaks me sometimes, I know we all are just different people but seeing yours she tries any way she can! All tasty dishes! I am making the second one today! I am happy I got to see this as I really wanted to try something new this spring! Sending a big hug. Nat
What an exquisite video!!! The sound of green onions being chopped with the machete...the texture of the "noodles" of the last dish...the oil sizzling...my senses were on overdrive! Bless you Miriam and your MIL for sharing such a delightful culture🙏
Hello Miriam, lovely to see you again. Best wishes to you from Newcastle Australia. Its amazing how one vegetable can be used in so many ways in so many countries. All your mother - in - laws recipes looked delicious. She is a real sweetie.
in uni my chinese exchange student friend used to whip up these simple meals with potatoes, eggs, leftover veggies. he was able to do it when our fridge had almost no stuff. and it was delicious every time
First time in ages I have been served your video, things have changed, the children are so big! I have not seen any of these recipes though I have seen versions without the potatoes. The vegetable dishes all looked lovely and the potatoe dumplings and noodles especially looked delicious. Your lovely mum in law is precious and her sister. I learned so much from my mil years ago, never forgotten she is still with us but so far away now. She learned how to cook from her husband from mainland China, and added it to her South Indian cooking and eating was good. Like you she did not eat meat but prepared it for those who did…. There is something nice about how in Asia even though there are often many mouths to feed there are also many hands to help too. All that is missing is a means to smell and taste this great cooking…. And as usual your videos have such a nice quality of harmony. Wonderful.
I loved this so much. It seems like there are endless potato recipes in the world. I have tried liangpi noodles a few times and love them. It was interesting to see the way these noodles we served in a similar way but the noodles looked much more dense and hearty. I'm sure living in the village has its challenges but it seems like such a rare opportunity to be completely immersed in another culture that not many other people get to experience. I really love your filmmaking style too xx
Wow, the last dish, before they cut it, looks exactly like polish potato pancakes. Love the polish version, so the Chinese one must be really delicious too!
Back to nature! As life should be. Loved the dishes and love the lifestyle. Wish it would be as simple living in the urban areas, but alas that will never be. This is the real life as it should be, lives lived long and happy. Many people would envy you for this life that is wonderful and so content. Vegetables straight from the garden, who wouldn't want that? No chemicals, no artificial enhancers. When people talk about food from the heavens, this is it.
Wonderful video. I love your MIL. Her knowledge and her warm kindness is such a gift to your life. My MIL is no longer with us. But I still feel her with me. She was equally warm and a great influence in my life. May be cook many meals together ! 💕🌷
Hope you have been well Mariam. I have not been able to watch your videos for a while but it's just pure nostalgia from when I watched your videos as stress relief while studying for my finals at school in 2019. I am a university graduate in a few months. As always, I love your style of videography! ❤
Such a lovely mother in law! Mine is nothing like this 😂 😢 I wished I could cook and bond with her it’s lost cause! The boys are growing up so fast and they are so handsome! I hope one day I can come visit China ❤ The food she makes looks amazing 🎉I am vegetarian and I love the way she makes things inclusive for you! My mother in law comes in and does not care at all … she takes over breakfast is frying bacon sausages with onions 🤮 for her and her son. Don’t mind me 😅 You take good care of each other with kindness and respect and I love this!👌🏼👍🏼 Lots of love Sabrina 🇫🇷🇬🇧
This reminds me of spending time with my wife's family in rural China. Soooo darn happy. Miss them dearly. Thanks so very much for this video. Brings back memories.
That was an amazing video! Loved seeing the amazing recipes!! I'm vegan and married to a tiawanese. We live in France..keep up the cool creative videos!
Hi from France. Again what a family😊😊😊😊. Your mother in law is a wonderful cook. Happy family, beautiful people many thanks to let us discover that.👋👋👋👋 You could write a recipes book with your mum in law.
Love these recipes and as someone that had a bf that was from Henan, it was fun for me getting to know his parents and his village home. Im an american chinese that took some time acclimating while I lived there but loved every minute. I love potatoes so thank you for these videos. I was hoping to see the meat version, though. Does the whole family have to eat vegetarian now? Or just when you are with them? Your mother in law is adorable!
11:23 that is a Fantastic idea for an outside sink! I'm going to borrow that and add one to my yard some day maybe if prices in the US go down and I can actually afford to buy. Your MIL is just lovely. And her sisters garden was really nice as well. *EDIT: I want that knife!!! So good at its job! I can never get them sharp enough!*
Ooooh, those dishes look scrumptuous!!!! Thankyou for sharing. I was thinking as I watched what a wonderful treasure you are creating by documenting the recipes and also the history of how things have changed. Your boys will be able to look back on these forever.
This all looked delicious ❤ All the grating is very familiar to me as a thuringian (slab dab middle of germany) where potato dumplings are a staple. There are different kinds where you grate raw potatoes, cooked potatoes or you use half and half for the dough. Usually they have a filling of roasted bread dice but you can get creative. The best is when you slice leftover dumplings and fry them 😍 i love your Videos.
That was really interesting 😋and I only wish I could sample the wares, I’ve watched your Vlogs(and YongHongs) for a few years now and this was a topic I longed for you to cover 🙏🏻✨thank you xxx 🌸💓
Love the video. You have such a wonderful style. So gentle and people focused. And you always have the camera pointing exactly at what I want to see (even if I don't always know what I want to see lol). I feel like I'm hanging out with you all. :) Plus the music is perfect - it just blends seamlessly into the video.
Looks yummy, farm to table goodness. Would love to know the dishes that went with meals. The last dish could be very versatile, from wrap/crepe type use to fold cut into noodles...
For what I recall, this was my first time seeing these delicious recipes. In Guangxi our recipes are a little bit different... we traveled China for 6 + years and have found most foods are unique and produced with love.
MIL and Elder Sister are like twins!
Please put a family cookbook together, everything looks delicious 😋
Yes, a cookbook, please!
They sure do look SO much alike! And yes, I want that family cookbook too. In fact, I want to come to Qinghai for a month to learn how to cook like that. I could become a vegetarian too...! Hmm, does the potato dish taste Ike glue?
Life is blooming wherever Miriam goes❤
haha, you said that so well. it sure does!
I wish I had a mother like her.
Without even realizing it, I found myself smiling more and more as I watch you videos. They make me happy before I even realized that I’m happy:). Thank you 🙏
Your Mother-in-law and her sister! ❤️
So beautiful! Their smiles are so kind and joyful. I just think your Mother-in-law is such a treasure! Thank you for sharing her with us!
The food looks so delicious! Many thanks for the great chinese recipes! Warm greetings from Northern Germany to all people in China ❤!
I love how authentic the people around your life is.
Please tell your mother-in-law for me that I think she is a wonderful cook. From 🇺🇸
I will! ❤️
Miriam has a beautiful personality, you can see how happy she makes the people around her 🙂
❤
A family that eats together stays together.
I respect people who can grow their own food because I know how goddamn hard it is. Took me years to get to grips with growing my own veggies.
Your mother in law and her sister look like twins! 😊
Your mother in law is FANTASTIC!!!!
Thanks to this lovely lady and her videos .. I love rural China and her people.
❤️❤️❤️
How I wish I could try those dishes. So fresh, colourful and healthy. I once tried to make gnocci but other than that never mix flour and potato in my cooking. Maybe that should change.
Your mother in law is just so wonderful.
Thanks for the glimpse into your life.
Your in-laws look like they are very kind people. The food looks very healthy and hearty, thanks for sharing ❤

One of my favorite foods is soup!!! This looks to have a similar texture than that of the Dominican soup, asopao de pollo. ❤❤❤
I LOVE her Marimekko apron! (Greetings from Finland)

Miriam, those potatoes dishes looks amazing and tried any of them.
No wonder Sansan and Lian are growing so fast.

Miriam, Have you shown your Mother in Law the ways potatoes are used in Sweden or the UK, as in Chips (British style), Baking and Roasting them?
For what I recall, this was my first time seeing these delicious recipes. In Guangxi our recipes are a little bit different... we traveled China for 6 + years and have found most foods are unique and produced with love.
Wow so amazing!
Thanks! Looks delicious! I will try to make them.
Let me know how it goes! ❤
Beautiful video ❤❤
Thank you ❤️
Always love your videos.
Thank you ❤️
Great learning experience. Maybe your family might enjoy potato latkes or potato pancakes?
Thank you. Enjoyed this. Always interesting to hear how weather affects crops too. Only potatoes stored in root cellar?
We store potatoes, carrot and radish in the root cellar! But only the potatoes last the year.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
