what I was thinking, never had that thought before and I bet Pere Ubu nor Talking Heads thought about it. It was time for this sound. My belief anyway. Best!
I have to disagree. Back then there were "scenes" sprouting in different cities, and Cleveland developed separately from New York. Some Cle bands went to New York when they heard cool things were happening there (Dead Boys, for example). But Ubu was mainly influenced by the bleakness of Cleveland's crumbling industrial district in the mid 1970s.
This was good. Never heard it before. I'd heard of them only because of James Spina's reviews in Hit Parader. I've written a completely different song in a different style with the same title. It is on my Sounder93 channel.
Their lead singer looks like a very friendly and likable person just in general. LOL. Like Jack Black or the slightly chubbier John from They Might Be Giants.
Thats David Thomas, and yes he is a friendly and likable person, but sometimes he likes to do some "trolling"in pere ubu,you can see that in some older experimental songs and even on the names of some albums.
What is the meaning of this song? Did they go to the diner to meet their weed hookup and they took forever (Mary Jane... waiting for her .... what are we doing here? Waiting!)
Martians are gone out. They are going to stars and planets. Mars; Future People's Station. This Earth ; Our Home PLANET.!! long long Future, Heat Up Neptune, Plutonians go to Sirius or other STARS?.!!! TueM.
Welcome to Mars its open all hours….
Best first line in a song ever😂
This makes my alien heart smile. 👽🛸👽
I remember seeing them in Urggh, A Music War in 1979 or 1980. What a magical time of discovery for a 9-10 year old version of myself.
Only 100+ creatures in whole galaxy like this video :(
You can tell the talking heads and Pere totally fed off eachother. Amazing

Clever catchy perfect pop.
Perfect description man.
INDEED!
This is brilliant.
Such a great tune
When my friend died is right about when I found this song, or it found me it and just really hit home.
Sounds a lot like Cheap Trick's *Surrender*
Love them both 👍
Welcome to Mars!!!!!!
At least there's eggs and pie
I've been waiting for this video to materialize again. Thanks!

Check it out!

Just one of hundreds of great tunes in the 80's you'll never hear on the radio, it wasn't all Rick Ghastley.
Gaz Lee You got that right!
Sadly you are correct.....
Why would you care or listen to whats on radio? MP3 came out over 20 years ago.
Nothing wrong with Rick Astley either
Rick ghastly is my favourite horror pop artist
I pattern my whole life after Dave Thomas videos.....
Cool. You're just as hot too. ;)
You have a fantastic opportunity to do so, convincingly.
The man is a genius.
And how's that working out for ya?
dumbest comment found
beautiful song.
Great singer
Cada día SUENA MEJOR! Argentina aplaude.
And yet "They Do The Barbecue" when "Worlds Collide" - Pere Ubu.
sure a yearly anthem for humanity
Remember seeing this on TV whay back when. Definitely one of the best tunes of the 80ts and definitely deserves more views than it has
Back when you had to actually build sets and huge neon clocks. Wish I had it.
Nice ... First time I'm watching this.
Lots of talent in the DeLuise family.
I was thinking Otho in Beetlejuice
😂
Indeed. What ARE we doing here?
Gran banda, sigo esperando a Mary
Brilliant
SO fucking ahead of their time.
Never Hear This Song, A Must In Your New Wave Collection.
I'd love to hang out w that dude

Waiting...what did we do to kill time before smart phones
Both this song and video hit the spot.
I hear punk back vocals😅😢❤🎉
A little RFTT coming out 😊
I had no idea this video, song, or album even existed.
That just about covers everything that you could possibly know about any of this. Glad you know now! Cheers!
He didn't dress 80s thank God!!
Great song mates
should have been more famous
Check it on Dave Sanborn show. Formidable.
I noticed it's in F-major. Key often used for gospel and church hymns. Also F and F# where the Classical pastoral keys. Redemption at last.
It's E Major, then modulates to A Major to the bridge with a borrowed major II chord, leading into the tonic of the original key.
@@semaster_tcd My God, you're right. My ear failed me! Ha. Did you play it out, or do you have perfect pitch?
I want that clock!
I would put the clock above that yellow table
@@benchalmers8757 I'm still waiting to find out how to get one . This video was pre-Amazon/Ikea
I found his record in my collection
Come on, Mary, we're still waiting!
waiting for godot
Mars to Elon: what the hell are you doing here?
The hipster soul patch decades before "hipster" was a thing....
😂hey Einstein! Hipster was a beatnik concept. 😅it's where the word "hippie" came from.
i wasnt into it at 1st, loved it by the end

Saw the Pixies and They Might Be Giants on a double bill in Dallas, ages ago...
@@donnabarber8706 In 1991 the Pixies toured with Pere Ubu as special guest.
David Thomas is a post punk legend and Pere Ubu is one of the greatest alternative rock bands of all time that stretches 6 decades
@@ericdouglas7039 Nice to know, thanks
Was the Lemon Meringue pie supposed to fall, or was that a fortuitous bonus?
Mmmmmmmm pie...
@@leonardoortiz1108Lo Bob, you get pie 5yrs ago?
Anyone else curious if that’s a giant freezer?
Mars is meant for the rockers
Ever wondered where Pixies got their sound from..
Man, he really wanted that Pixies money huh?
Therapeutic
Olha ele
Is it just me or does Dave look like Otho from Beetlejuice in this vid?
I just posted that lol
We are asking, did Mary ever arrive?
She did. 35 yrs ago and we're still together
He should have ordered some BBQ! Smoked BBQ
interesting
Who paid for the trailers? Any furthur word on that?
I think it's chairs, but still waiting to find out if either are paid for
What is the meaning of this song? Did they go to the diner to meet their weed hookup and they took forever (Mary Jane... waiting for her .... what are we doing here? Waiting!)
Sounds like it

I wish they had nixed the dancing cardboard people and simply allowed David to do his thing. They'd have had a better video.
89
The latter part of the 80s was a difficult time for alternative music
False
the 80s seemed to take hold of every experimental band at some point in the decade
what the hell happened to this band? this is awful!
They're still going. They've had lots of lineup changes, with David Thomas being the only constant.
