I won't use the word pride even for that because pride is a sin no matter what. We must be humble. A far better word to use is gratefulness. I am eternally grateful that God loves us so much that He would do this for us even though we are so incredibly undeserving. Our salvation is a true gift of love. I attended Alfred Street years ago and I recall some of the mature members being at odds with his ideology. At the time, my life was not pleasing to God and Pastor Wesley made me feel comfortable and safe. But as I’ve grown in Christ, studying my bible, praying and fasting, seeking God first, and trusting in Gods word - being comfortable was not what I needed. The Bible represents truth and sometimes the truth hurts, however, the truth is needed in order for us to grow in Christ.

Brother you are exactly right. When they brought the woman caught in adultery to Jesus, he showed her compassion. He dealt with the crowd, but lastly he told her to go and sin no more. He did not affirm her adultery.
I live on the west coast and used to watch Alfred Street Baptist Church's service online and used to appreciate Dr. Wesley's preaching/teaching, but when I heard him preach "for" homosexuality, I unsubscribed/stopped watching. I do not hate nor do I mistreat people who identify as LGBTQ+, but I can't condone preachers preaching FOR homosexuality or any other sin.
I'm so glad you did this. Pastor Wesley is a powerful preacher and Alfred Street does a lot for the community and helping students pay for college, but his relentless endorsement of the alphabet community is quite disturbing

I use to go to this church back in 2016, when I was first saved. I had given this church 3 strikes and I stopped going after a year of being there. The 1st strike was their young adult ministry (CAYA) had hosted at a meet up at a bar I used to go to when I was still in the world. The 2nd was that they brought yoga into the church, and the 3rd was a hyper emphasis on pro-blackness. The Pastor said during a sermon one time, "my melanted people." I said to myself that if I hear that and I was another ethnicity, I would feel some type of way. I pray his eyes be opened.
This church is in D.C., specifically, Alexandria, VA. Sad to see this church go this way. But it explains the pastor's behavior over the last 4 or so years. I believe he's saying something without saying something. 👀
Our sermon series this month was “The Pride of Life”. One of the three roots of all SIN. (The lust of the eyes and the lust of the flesh)… this is sad. Nobody is safe outside of the obedience of the Word.
judging people is GOD'S business, He alone is the ONLY TRUE JUDGE. But In His Word, He taught us how to RECOGNIZE His people......KJV MATTHEW 7:16-20 YE SHALL KNOW THEM BY THEIR FRUITS. If a person's lifestyle DOESN'T confirm to GOD'S WORD, by what they SAY or what they DO, then THEY THEMSELVES, REVEAL who they truly serve.
This just makes it easier to see who the wolves are. When a false teacher shows himself to be a false teacher, we shouldn't despair, we should be thankful so we can easily mark and avoid their "church" or "ministry".

Judge not is the worst lie that many Christians believe. We are called to discern the spirits. To discern means to make a judgement. When we discern we are making a judgment based on the standard of Scripture. The measuring device of a pastor and elder is 1 Timothy 3. The measuring device of how to live a Christ centered life is in Scripture yet we aren’t to judge our lives, the lives of others, or the spirits in the world? 🤨 We have to be smarter than this. The standard for a Christian is not the same for a nonbeliever. As Christians we are to live up to God’s standards vs the world has no standards and accepts every debachery and self-seeking pleasure, do as thou will.
Proverbs 8:13 “The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil. Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I hate.” I just can’t affirm what God hates. Why June? The month we honor our earthly fathers, let that sink in. 🤔
I've been to this church a couple of times, but only because of the person I was with at the time. It's in Alexandria, VA. I'm not surprised about this at all. It was never a place I would've considered a church home, if I were looking for one. Good work on your findings, brother!

Too many churches are becoming that way like this pastor. On FB, I had a so-called pastor named Stephen Thurston who said he was going to attend a Gospel Drag show. After I called him out, he got FURIOUS and offended.
I enjoy hearing these “affirming churches” preach to the faithful about judging others. Saying that the bible condemns a certain behavior as sin is not judgement. Its proclaiming the word of God. What Romans 2 & 3 talk about, and what that one man missed, is that it reveals that we can’t properly judge because we are flawed and only a perfect being can properly judge, that being God. Thats why we proclaim God’s word, and remain faithful to God’s word. This is not judging, it’s being obedient to the true and righteous judge.
Jesus, Paul, and many of the other apostles speak to judging the spirits based on the word of truth. What is the definition of discernment? To discern means to make a judgement. We are to judge the spirit of those around us and the message of the world. When we don’t judge using the standard of Scripture then we are just as useless as this pastor.
Thats different than the way this pastor is using the term “judge”. We cannot judge if a person is saved. We can make some logical conclusions based on the evidence, but we still do not know. We cannot see as God does. Though I agree, we are to rightly discern as to what the word has said. This is unfortunately not what they mean.

That is why you study the word for yourself, attend bible studies with knowledgeable people of the word and people of God, so, that when you are in discussions such as these you will be able to CORRECTLY respond and speak truth in love!

The bible clearly states that He is angry with the wicked every day. He does NOT love everybody either. They are not His children because they are the children of the devil. No Christian should celebrate pride month or any other pride for any reason. It’s totally against the call for humility and grace. The Lord God, Jesus Christ, left the Heavenly Places to come to the sinful place we know as Earth as He humbled Himself and became flesh. The very least you can do is live our own lives with humility as well.

Pastor Howard John Wesley is a Former Pastor of mine. He is a very Left leaning and progressive. He took up the BLM cause and promotes a social gospel. He is very intelligent and a gifted speaker and teacher. I left his church years ago in Springfield Ma before many of these extreme positions were manifested. He Left Springfield some say because of some scandal that I won’t go into here. I ask that Pastor Wesley be prayed for that he would repent of his Social Gospel message and get back to the true Gospel of Christ. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

I used to be a member but I noticed that he was very comfortable letting the world in to try to fit it side-by-side with Truth.

judging people is GOD'S business, He alone is the ONLY TRUE JUDGE. But In His Word, He taught us how to RECOGNIZE His people......KJV MATTHEW 7:16-20 YE SHALL KNOW THEM BY THEIR FRUITS. If a person's lifestyle DOESN'T confirm to GOD'S WORD, by what they SAY or what they DO, then THEY THEMSELVES, REVEAL who they truly serve.
Christians are called to judge one another by the guidelines of the Word of God.
This just makes it easier to see who the wolves are. When a false teacher shows himself to be a false teacher, we shouldn't despair, we should be thankful so we can easily mark and avoid their "church" or "ministry".

Judge not is the worst lie that many Christians believe. We are called to discern the spirits. To discern means to make a judgement. When we discern we are making a judgment based on the standard of Scripture. The measuring device of a pastor and elder is 1 Timothy 3. The measuring device of how to live a Christ centered life is in Scripture yet we aren’t to judge our lives, the lives of others, or the spirits in the world? 🤨
We have to be smarter than this. The standard for a Christian is not the same for a nonbeliever. As Christians we are to live up to God’s standards vs the world has no standards and accepts every debachery and self-seeking pleasure, do as thou will.

I've read Voddie Bauchams new book and man if he doesn't address this exact thing in his book. It's sad to see so many pastors that are ok with this.
I've been to this church a couple of times, but only because of the person I was with at the time. It's in Alexandria, VA. I'm not surprised about this at all. It was never a place I would've considered a church home, if I were looking for one.

I enjoy hearing these “affirming churches” preach to the faithful about judging others. Saying that the bible condemns a certain behavior as sin is not judgement. Its proclaiming the word of God. What Romans 2 & 3 talk about, and what that one man missed, is that it reveals that we can’t properly judge because we are flawed and only a perfect being can properly judge, that being God. Thats why we proclaim God’s word, and remain faithful to God’s word. This is not judging, it’s being obedient to the true and righteous judge.
Jesus, Paul, and many of the other apostles speak to judging the spirits based on the word of truth. What is the definition of discernment? To discern means to make a judgement. We are to judge the spirit of those around us and the message of the world. When we don’t judge using the standard of Scripture then we are just as useless as this pastor.
Thats different than the way this pastor is using the term “judge”. We cannot judge if a person is saved. We can make some logical conclusions based on the evidence, but we still do not know. We cannot see as God does.
Though I agree, we are to rightly discern as to what the word has said. This is unfortunately not what they mean.
The Torah is God's view, and He never changes, so if you say otherwise, then God is a liar and not worthy of worship at all.

Pastor Howard John Wesley is a Former Pastor of mine. He is a very Left leaning and progressive. He took up the BLM cause and promotes a social gospel. He is very intelligent and a gifted speaker and teacher. I left his church years ago in Springfield Ma before many of these extreme positions were manifested. He Left Springfield some say because of some scandal that I won’t go into here. I ask that Pastor Wesley be prayed for that he would repent of his Social Gospel message and get back to the true Gospel of Christ. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
