  • What Mic should I get for Indoor Dialogue/Talking head?
The Best Microphone for RUclips Videos?
That's the answer I was looking for, so I made this.
This video is just a comparison between some of the microphones I own.
Shotgun mics sound great outdoors, it can pickup clear sound and basically ignore whats coming from the sides because of its usually long interference tube, but indoors, whole another story. You could get your voice canceled or faded out using it, because of voice reflections bouncing all around your room. You could get phasing issues as well.
That's why you should use a Pencil Condenser/Small Diaphragm Condenser mic for that purpose, since there's no Interference tube, you'll probably get better sound.
My goal here is to test which one sounds better in my untreated room (altough it just made me more uncertain). I provided raw samples, noise reduction samples and EQ and noise redction samples as well. All of that processing done inside Adobe Audition. Audio wasn't normalized and, I'm certainly not a pro audio guy.
Mics compared in this video :
    Deity D3 PRO - 200$
    Sony ECM-CS3 Lavalier - 20/30$
    Behringer XM8500 - 20/30$
    Alctron T05 - 80/100$ (Matched Pair)
After I bought the T05, I went down the rabbit hole and found out that it is a Neumann KM84 Clone and surprisingly, Alctron is the OEM source supplier for a bunch of brands out there such as Avantone, Subzero, MXL, NADY, Monoprice, CAD, Arcano PYX, etc. The list goes on. They're all based on Alctron's T01A, T02A and T03. Apparently the T05 is the same Mic with an ugly body (Why Alctron?)
Shout out to Andrew Jones from Wav Report that found out about the OEM stuff a few years ago:
    wavreport.com/...
Since Alctron mics are not easy to find, you'll get roughly the same performance with Rebranded Alctrons, maybe more capsules or low cut filter, perhaps an improvement on self noise or handling noise (depends on the mic stand you're getting with it) and warranty.
If you have any questions, let me know.

Definitely some room resonance. The room sort of 'chimes' upon louder parts of speech. It probably would do that on certain instrumental notes too. Sometimes putting obstructions like furniture into the corners can cut this effect. You are right about the foam stuff. There are plenty of these things that are trying to get people to spend $$$, but frankly rugs, furniture, and various interrupting objects, can cut plenty of problems down to size. The best concert halls are still "rooms". Parallel surfaces and low ceilings are common problems. If you can interrupt any of these you may reach big improvement.

pointint it at table was a mistake. cardeoid gives you opportunity to aim it optimally. also T05 is pretty sensative

Hi Matheus , I have one question if you would reply I`d be appreciated. I was wondering if Takstar CM63 and Alctron T05 are using the same microphone capsule or not , do you have any information about that? And would you recommend Alctron T05 over T02A? It`s so difficult to find detailed information about each microphone even from Alctron`s own website.

It really is hard to find stuff about this Chinese mics.
You kinda get why branded one's are so expensive, they put a lot a of info on it.
They probably share the same capsule with some minor tweaks. If you find any of these mics with replaceable capsules and a good price, go for it. The difference should be unnoticeable.

Thanks.
