in hoi4, if you ever question yourself "this dosen't make any sense/this is completely inaccurate" the most likely answers to *Why* are: -shitty AI/coding -lazyness -game balance (the usual reason) -less stressfull/more fun (look at blackice mod and tell me if you enjoy managing an entire society) so basicaly, it just works.
I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure the game considers the B-17 to be a tactical bomber, similarly to how it considers the Crusader to be a medium tank when it was, in fact, light
Look at France for example. They don't even have 1936 fighters researched but for some reason Poland and Yugoslavia (and others I belive) have them. HOW? They don't even have the industry to produce them
This one I think is due to limitations in game mechanics. I'm not sure how they could have both the Germans and Soviets go in on Poland using the guarantee mechanic while ensuring the Allies aren't at war with the Soviets.
@@carthagegamingstudiosin road to 56 they just made it so an event goes out and if on historical the uk decides to abandon Poland and Poland isn’t allowed to call them in
Yes, I have noticed that as well. Honestly, there are so many historical mistakes in the game that it would be incredibly difficult to cover them all in a reasonably-lengthed video.
@@JoboGamezzz I mean, historically that's what happened. Price Paul joined the Axis (because what other options did he have) and then he was coup'd and the Germans took this as an act of aggression and then invaded.
Planes are fcked anyways since BBA. Some countries have an airforce, but don't even know what an airplane, engine or machine gun is. Its really annoying to researcall of these new techs for these countries and I don't know how Paradox hasn't fixed it yet.
I don't know enough about the Air Force development of minor powers at the time, but I do know many licensed their designs from major powers at the time. My assumption is that the game (at least theoretically) expects minor players and the AI to request production licenses from majors. Again, I don't know enough about aircraft development at the time to say either way.
@@carthagegamingstudiosa lot of minor nations bought small production runs of planes from major powers. Chile for example had planes from Italy and Germany.
No, I mean the Lapland from Finland capitulating. In most of my games it happens within a year of Barbarossa. I wasn't meaning to say the Lapland war was happening during that moment.
France still has access to the decision to ban communism, even of they go popular front, so in a way, historicality could still be maintained. My main speculation as to why the focus tree was designed the way it is, is that PDX designed the trees *around* the radical/alt hist paths. Hence why the popular front can't do Laissez-faire, and the right can't reform the labor laws, etc. Japan also wouldn't necessarily go to war with Russia. When Germany signed molotov-ribbentrop, Japan had to swap their war plan from striking the Far East towards moving into the South Pacific because they wanted a quick war. Attacking the colonial states made more sense either way, as Germany had capitulated the overlord states (ie France, Netherlands). And frankly, the Japanese high command was on enough crack to invade anyone by 1941.
to be honest, most of the research things are either too fucked behind shitty coding or some other issues so it may just be too "complicated" for our boys at paradox

The entire Germany Balkan paths are horribly inaccurate yet they kept them in after the rework
Not gonna lie bro, i love your videos, literally the exact type of Hoi4 vids ive been looking for
Yeah my guess would have been that Germany doesn’t have paratroopers so they can’t cheese the Disjointed-Government trait in an early war with France.
People still did that lol, they just researched it.

You may very well be right. I did not consider that.
The crusader tank was a cruiser tank, and was a lot more similar to a medium tank than a light tank
the crusader is a medium
There’s a mod on the workshop that adds historic date requirements to most focuses. It’s not perfect and kinda breaks ai balancing but it’s still neat
Look at France for example. They don't even have 1936 fighters researched but for some reason Poland and Yugoslavia (and others I belive) have them. HOW? They don't even have the industry to produce them
It is not historical because soviets don't attack poland at similar time as germans

Remilitarising Rhineland is late in HOI4
Ah yes! I just got invaded by the Germans on march 13th 1941 as the Soviets.
I thought this was wild but I just got invaded in January of 41. 6 months early!!! Are you kidding me?
