Quatermasters on pirate vessels weren't only in charge of the crew, they were also equal to the captain and could counter his orders if they thought it was in the best interest of the crew. The only time they couldn't counter the captain was during battles, that was the only domain where the captain's word was final. Pirates had a pretty good code, they weren't as uncivilised as they're usually portrayed to be.
Well the code was more what you call a guideline.

They actually did it the absolute madmen, honestly never expected this, one of my favourite shows of all time.
one of the things I really like about this show is how they mix real and fictional characters. Rackham, Anne Bonny and Vane were all real pirates while Flint, Silver and Billy Bones are all fictional from Treasure Island

Different circumstances though, once you have been established as king you should refrain from repeating a line like that, as it makes you seem like you're trying to prove a point that should be obvious. Flint here is not an established king.
I get the reference, but Flint didn't mean he was king, he meant that to his crew, to Billy Bones, he's king. what he says goes no matter what. It's somewhat delusional, but it wasn't as bad as declaring himself an actual king.
Also, I know I'm super late.
The first season is pretty damn good, if a little slow to get going in the beginning, but everything after is some of the best damn television I've ever seen. I'm so excited for you guys to check this out.

Finally! Black Sails is one of the best written shows of the past ten years, you have no idea how good it will get. Fair warning: previous reactors have had issues with copyright claims. Don't worry, you'll never get strikes, but it can happen that some episodes get taken down after a while. Don't be discouraged by that, this show is worth the hassle.
Oh, boys... Every time they talk about John Silver they reference "Muppets Treasure Island" instead of "Treasure Island." LOL

Treasure Island, Muppet's Treasure Island, and Treasure Planet are all the same story.
To be fair, aside from the fact that it features The Muppets, it's actually one of the story's better adaptations.
The downside to the first episode of this finally being posted is that I now have to spend every day that isn't Monday in constant agony.

I love how they blended real life pirates and locations with the characters of Treasure Island.
About halfway through this show, I realized that due my knowledge of history and the book, I knew that NO ONE would get a happy ending. They're all destined for betrayal and ignominious death.

@@anemonenova8694 She, Jack and Mary Reade were all arrested. Jack got executed, Mary died of a fever. We don't know for certain how Anne died, but I believe her burial is confirmed in the same place she was imprisoned.
The captan Flint is son of the actress Maggie Smith in real life. Cool right?

Holy crap!!! This is awesome. I've felt this show is the most under the radar, fantastic show on television for years. It starts good, but gets progessively better with each passing episode. And once you get to the season 2 finale, most people realize that this absolute top notch story telling. So glad you guys started reacting to this

This had made my DAY. This is a great show. Some of the best writing and character arcs on a show.
One of the best shows ever made.
This is a prequel to Treasure Island and the story of the Rise of Long John Silver.
John Silver is simply great and his development through the show is amazing, but the real showstopper is Captain Flint.
I don't think there has ever been a more complex and fantastic character before him or since.
Well time to rewatch this again

Season 4 has a lot of moments that gave me GoT season 5-7 flashbacks but other than that yeah the writing's great
THE most under rated show of ALL TIME. Season 1 is slightly slow, but Season 2 and 3 are simply stunning. The acting, the set pieces (second to NONE), the plot. It's really an amazing show.
You have no idea how happy that makes me. This show and The Expanse are my absolute favorite shows of the 2010s. So underrated and yet such a gem. Season 1 might be a tad below but 2, 3 and 4 are complete masterpieces!
And oh that intro tune ! I miss it so much !

14:24 I know you've already seen the entire episode so this is largely a moot point but Randall wasn't stealing from his crew. The Walrus crew were taking a prize and Randall got injured during the fighting. That's why they're still loyal to him. It would be strange if they were loyal to someone who stole from them.

I remember the first time I saw this John Silver. I didn't see him as that character. But boy does he step up his game in later seasons.
I remember when I first heard the name, I kind of did a double take. I didn't realize the show was a prequel to Treasure Island until I got pretty far into the show.
IT'S HERE! I'm so happy. Like, ridiculously happy. I love this show so, so much. And we finally got here, after losing so many polls. And it's so cool that so many are coming to watch the show now, to follow along with the reactions. It really deserves it.
That intro was the best thing ever. I need that on a loop.
Just some small facts: New Providence Island is a real island that exists, and one of the cities on it is Nassau (which is the "pirate city" we see here too. But it doesn't quite look like that today. :P)

I'm impressed that you got down almost all of the names! I barely did that the first episode. Then again, I did know some pirate history, so I wasn't quite as confused as to who certain people are (this show is a mixture between fictional and historical people).
That reaction was awesome, I'm glad you guys seem to be enjoying it, despite the first episode being a bit slow, introducing you to everyone. I can't wait to go on this journey with you.

Im such a Viking fan and it’s my favourite show. I’ve heard so many good things about black sails and I’m going to give it a try. Let’s see if I fall in love with this show as much as I did with Vikings haha.
I discovered "Black Mirror" when it was listed in their polls last year, and not only I think it is a very interesting series but I also think it would totally fit Blind Wave's expectations. They like science fiction and they like to analyse, being puzzled and being surprised so, it would be perfect for them. Every episode is basically a new story with a whole new universe to which you need time to get accustomed to, and there is always a moral at the end (usually on the effects of a particuliar item of technology).

All the characters go through such phenomenal journey's so excited to experience it again, especially with you guys.

Season 1 is a lot of worldbuilding and setup for the rest of the crazy ride. Some people think it's too slow, but I don't mind it, and Season 2-4 makes all the buildup worth it.
Things pick up a bunch by midseason, that said, this was a really strong pilot episode!

If I remember the episodes right I love the end of S2 might be one of my favorite tv show moments of all time. But I also love the Charles Vane.
