I just wrapped shooting a 7-page script with two actors from Craigslist. Both were 3x my age and I couldn't be happier to have worked with them. I would highly recommend Craigslist as another option to explore for both cast and crew.

What I love about Darius as a content creator is not only the type of videos he makes, but also how he approaches his audience. He’s not like all the other creators out there, who tend to fit their audiences into the same category. Instead, he understands that some of his viewers may struggle in certain areas that others don’t. So he addresses his main question in various different ways.
    Thank You Darious

THANK YOU 🙏❤ this speaks to my heart, had been a problem that had stopped me from writing scripts for aaaages (cos I didn’t know who I could cast 😓🛏). I’ve since been in a student film myself AND now been cast in a play (so I’m meeting more and more actors as my life progresses), but this advice is STILL super useful and awesome to hear (…I’ve been super guilty of thinking / writing over-complicated ideas for filmmaking projects in the past, and not getting anywhere because of it). This advice has made it super managable to get re-started on my once dormant love for filmmaking so THANK YOU once again 😊🙏

I had this problem here last year. Got in touch with a "writter" who had written a bunch of scripts but never done anything with them so he wrote a short script (about 4 pages).
He sent me the script asking if I'd be his DP. Took a look at the script and broke down in shooting terms.
We were looking at at least 3 different shooting days at 6 locations some of them outdoors in public and some very difficult to shoot at like an AIRPORT! We were also looking at about 3 actors.
The locations went from simple (an apartment) to ridiculously difficult (a bank, an airport).
He also had no money to pay actors.
I laid out a shooting schedule and explained the order we could shoot things in (explaining that movies were not shot in chronological order), I also offered alternate options for the more difficult scenes (shooting at a local small airstrip instead of a large international airport for example) and that if he could get the actors, I'd DP, supply most of the gear and even edit.
He rescheduled 3 times because of actors flaking the day before the shoot before giving up.

You are the best! I'm always learning more about filmmaking with your videos and at the same time getting better at understanding english. I'm from Brazil and you were the first person I started to watch on youtube that speaks english.
Last time I called 2 friends to act in a 2 pages short film, as you always say to keep the things simple, but they don't really respect the filmmaking process and laught at bullshit at any moment while I'm trying to make the thing happen. I don't know if the best thing to do for the next time is to call other friends or to insist at the last. It's understandable that they are not been payed, but at least being quiet and respectful would be great. It's boring to make a film with people who aren't at the same vibe as you of getting the best results as you can...
Anyway, I'll try harder to make more films done to get better at it, build a good resume of work and start to one day call real actors.

I made the mistake to write a way to large script. I'm not even done yet, but I'm gonna try to film a large piece this vacation. I used a friend and myself as an actor and my nephew as the cameraman. The script is way to long, but I always have food, drinks and I want them to have fun. Which I think that they did so that's great. I don't want to be the guy telling them what to do all the time so at times I said, what do you think? I'm in a sort of film school since last year, but we haven't done much collaboration with the Acting department in our school. There are social media sites that you can find talents. You can also make an ad about your film to talents. But be well aware that your talents need to be compensated for their skills. If you all can find talents that will work for free consider yourself lucky. You can also ask you family and friends to be talents. You might to train them all and agree that they will commit.

Finding actors never seems to be the problem - maybe if you are in a major film center where people are used to being burned by filmmakers - but in my neck of the woods half the people in town would jump through a hoop of fire to be in a movie. Beyond this, your method seems a bit like a waste of time - spend 7 short films working with your friends trying to get them into working with you, just to drop them for real actors - whom will have never worked with you, and you are back at page 1.
Just put out a casting call - pay your actors a nominal amount, $100 a day + points, and handle yourself professionally - you'll find all the actors you could ever want.

    Very helpful!
Quick question: How would you recommend coming up with stories for two page scripts?

Never heard of this approach before. It's great. I'll write the first two-pager now. Does the film have to include dialogue when I'm making it specific to their personality?
