All I’m gonna say is Tiktok beauty creators are so much more dishonest than youtube beauty creators. I guess it’s because short form content has to always be dialed up to a thousand to grab the viewers attention but I just don’t like that tiktok creators are more focused on virality than quality. So now when I see a tiktok influencer hype up a product (which is basically daily), I just roll my eyes and go look for a youtube review. And more often than not, the youtube review brings it back down to earth.
First of all, you ARE the DUPE QUEEN. 👑👑But it's nice to see you debunk some of these claims because a lot of influencers just call something a dupe because it looks like something else (the packaging). You're spot on about all of these and I agree with all of your reasoning. It's not about liking high end over drugstore either b/c I like the drugstore stuff better sometimes. It's about acknowledging that they're just different products.
Thank you so much Amanda! I feel the same way, in some cases I also like the drugstore product better. But just because something is "trying" to be a dupe doesn't mean it succeeded...and sometimes that's a good thing!
I am starting to have to admit to myself that I would save more money with products I can test first rather than just hoping for the best at the drugstore. Love your reviews! Always so helpful. 🌹
I totally agree with you about the ELF bite size quads. I own several, and generally do like them but the absence of a midtone transition shade is a drawback.
There's the I Love You A Latte quad. All of the shades are matte, and there's one that might be suitable for a crease shade. Depending on skintone, and taste.
I like the way you explain how different makeup formulas work - you don’t say that something is bad or garbage, you’re very respectful to other people’s choices, and that’s not the kind of video when an influencer says something like “this is obviously better bc it’s X and not the Y” or “this is the shit, and this is shit”! Your reviews really help to understand, what to choose and what to expect. Thank you very much for the new one! ❤🎉
Years ago when I was first starting out I would put products down that I didn't like and I remember getting comments from people who really did like them and were offended by what I said. That's when I realized that just because I don't like something doesn't mean that others feel the same way. It made me think harder about WHO a product is actually meant for when reviewing...maybe something that doesn't work on my dry skin can work for oily skin, or something that's glittery or colorful isn't my thing but there are others who love bolder makeup. I am always trying to learn and grow. 🥰
Agree so much about the elf halo glow wand. I also feel the same about the elf halo glow filter, despite everybody saying it’s the same as CT’s Hollywood FF it’s not similar at ALL. The CT FF sits really nicely on my acne prone skin and lasts REALLY well under quite full coverage makeup (especially with the CT airbrush flawless powder) whereas the elf halo glow was emerging patchy on my skin and wasn’t really lasting. Really cool video overall! 🙏
Yes! I would love this as a series ❤ It’s so helpful-I know a lot of people are trying to save money and think getting a lower cost “dupe” will be the same but in a lot of cases it’s not and you would have been better off just getting the original or something else.
Thanks for doing this. I trust you completely. I hope that you're doing well & you're all healed & recovered. You look great. I appreciate you being here for us !
A fun fact that in Korea they consider those color changing lip glosses bad quality because of the color that they turn. They consider that pink really bad quality.
Talking about shadows like the elf ones without a crease color: as a fellow hooded eye person I don't actually tend to use crease colors! I use a one-and-done shade of my choosing and I go a bit heavy handed with it on my lid and carry it up my eyelid higher into where I'd use a crease shade. Then I take a skin-toned (so bone/bisque/cream) shade - which the lightest shade in those palettes often are - and apply that from my brow bone with a fluffier blending brush and blend down into the crease over that deeper shade. It essentially creates like an ombre with crease definition. My eyes are kind of small too which may be part of why this works better for me than doing a crease shade, then the lid, then the brow bone and using several different shades for each area because I just don't feel like i have enough real estate on my lids for that to work well. If the shimmer shade is lighter I'll just use the fluffy blending brush with a little translucent pressed powder to blend out the edge. Might be worth a try with one of those elf palettes.... 😁 But that's basically how I do my shadow like 95% of the time.
I prefer L’Oréal over most brands in general. They’re phenomenal. And that Pinkgasm color is my favorite blush ever. It’s so pretty and lasts on my skin all day. Which is saying a lot. Huda has a great formula also. I had the Jaguar pallet and it was amazing quality.
I appreciate why drugstore brands try to dupe high end products, and ideally it would help people either save money by just buying the drugstore version or by letting people test out the drugstore version to make sure they like the color, etc. before they plunk down the money for the high end product. But ultimately I kinda wish they would just focus on making their own excellent products. When they try to make dupes and fail, it reinforces the idea that high end makeup is inevitably going to be better. I also think drugstore brands put unnecessary constraints on themselves by trying to dupe something instead of just making something that’s great.
It's so true! Plus people can often spend a lot more money at the drugstore buying multiple dupes when they could have just spent the same amount to get the original!
Great spin on dupes Jen! 🥳 it’s a refreshing change this ”not a dupe” video 😃 I think the same as you, that people are just comparing the packaging and not so much the product itself. Personally, I think ‘duping’ is stooping a bit low. I’ve always thought this. It’s like a company can’t think of any new ideas to come up with so they copy someone else’s. 🤷🏻♀️ That’s how I see it anyway lol. Hope you’re fully recovered now Jen, you’re looking so well. Take care and I’m looking forward to your next video. You are the only one that comes up with your own original ideas! 🎉
Aw thank you! I'm always brainstorming and sometimes the ideas work and sometimes they totally bomb. But I get bored just doing the same thing all the time. 🥰
I'd love to see this as a regular series. Most "reviews" or recommedantion videos are very sensationalist, so having an honest, objective reviwer (who also has real life skkin problems) is highly appreciated.
Always love your reviews ❤❤❤Regarding the Elf bite sized palettes....I wish they would come out with ones that have all shimmer, or 3 shimmer and one transition shade, or 2 shimmers, 2 transitions (warm/cool), for those of us who don't use the deep shade. Most days, I'm doing one and done's, with shimmer only.😅 sometimes I like to mix 2 shimmers together and get my own, personalized duochrome 😅 makeup is so much fun🎉❤💃🏼🥂🎉
I really enjoyed this video. You did such a great job in describing the difference in the products. And I love how you are always positive even when some products are not that great. I really appreciate all you do❤️
I love your honesty! You have earned the respect of millions of your viewers for your honesty and your Blayton transparency. This is why we love and respect you so much Jen so so much I’m to the point I don’t buy certain products without seeing what you have to say first thank you for the thousands of dollars you have saved me over the years. Yes I’ve counted. You have saved me thousands of dollars.
Really enjoyed this video. Great idea! Nice to really compare formulas as you have along with Botha pros and cons like you did especially with Dior lip oil and NYX
Yes Jen!!! It really irks me when people use words like "identical" or "exactly the same" when I can clearly see what is what and I'm like...??? Ya sure gurl?? The word dupe is thrown around way too loosely and need to be tightly regulated 😂
I’ve never used the Charlotte tilbury blush but I’m sure I’d love it. But I use the elf magic hour and berry radiant blush. I noticed with a sponge it really worked like trash and not good with fingers either. But it works really well with a dense flat foundation brush.
I’m so sorry I’m new to makeup brushes. When you say dense flat does that mean flat like a kabuki brush or flat like one of those broom shaped brushes? 😊

I'm glad I'm not the only one who preferred the Ride or Die lip balms! I still have some but am going to be sad when my tubes are done. I loved the feel of them as well as the colours. So pretty.

Hi Jen, I just have to tell you, I ordered your brushes and got them today and they are so soft and really beautiful that I hate to use them. I will use them tomorrow but I hate to get them dirty, they are just so pretty. 🍁🍁
Hello to my favorite reviewer (we know u don't like to use the term influencer)! This was very clever content. Yes, please make it a series!!! Frankly , I'm always skeptical of other YTers claims of dupes.
1. I don’t care which highlighter it is, highlighter only looks good on perfect skin or maybe skin full of Botox and filler. That narrows it down to babies. 2. The lippies? Definitely I preferred Tarte’s 3. I wouldn’t use either balm foundation. I dislike that type of application. 4. Eyes? Moira versus CT? Seriously there’s no competition there.
I fell for that Makeup Revolution palette. I don't wear it very often. I can make it work, like you said, but i probably should have saved my money. Love the ELF Ride or Die lip balms! I cherish the one I have.
Hallo Jen , I love this. I am not a dupe person more a product should stand on its own. I don't think holy hydration cleaning balm is a dupe for banila clean it zero or clinic take the day off. Same with Byoma is not the same as elemis I actually like the Byoma more smell is a lot better too.
The Nyx fat oil is trying to dupe Innbeauty lip glaze oil, as you can see with the lime green chubby tube. I’ve heard the innbeauty is more of a thick gloss type “oil.” Not sure why anyone would say it’s trying to dupe Dior, I see few similarities there.
Yes! I thought the same thing because the Innbeauty glosses have those bright tubes! I think it's because the wand looks similar? Honestly I think the Milani Fruit Fetish glosses are closer to the Dior.
What would you say is the closest dupe to the Charlotte Tilbury cream eyeshadow in Oyster Pearl? I was going to try moira dazzling brown but not anymore lol. Nikkie La Rose recommends Revlon cream shadow in Caramel. Is that a better formula than moira? I’d also love to see the elf highlighters put up against Charlotte tilbury spotlight. Many influencers told me the Flower Beauty wand in Opal was a dupe but it was not shiny at all and very dark! Terrible highlight for me.
Thank you Jen! Loved this. I’m sorry to ask you about your nails once again, but what in the world is this beautiful nail polish you’re sporting? So pretty w your lavender sweater💕🥰. Thank you so much!
Jen, LOVE your makeup today!! Such a pretty neutral flush! ♥ I definitely agree with all your reasoning behind these dupe-wanna-bees. Similar, maybe, dupes, nope!
Yes a new series would be great! I'm a new subscriber here and I love your channel. I didn't like the Elf eyeshadow but maybe it was just a fluke. Lots of fallout unfortunately.
I was wondering about the Huda vs Makeup Revolution one. I have the Huda one and for some reason my shimmers in the palette are hard panned. So maybe I should give Revolution a try.
I hate how people call a lower priced item a dupe even when it was invented first!
RIGHT? I hate that too! So annoying.

Many influencers told me the Flower Beauty wand in Opal was a dupe but it was not shiny at all and very dark! Terrible highlight for me.
I love your videos.!I seriously look forward to watching them-its my chill time. Thanks Jen!!! xoxo
The Tarte maracuja balm (regular, not plumping) feels sooo similar to the Rare Beauty liquid balm!
💯agree with the Dior comparison. Amazon has some ingredient-for-ingredient dupes for the Dior that I’ve been loving 🥰
Yes! Drives me crazy when people throw the "dupe" name around.
I appreciate your honesty 😊
Yes. You are an expert in my opinion on dupes. You KNOW your makeup. So this is perfect. Loving your content. Yes ❤❤x💯
Such a great and informative video! Would love to see this as a series!❤
Thank you Jen! Loved this. I’m sorry to ask you about your nails once again, but what in the world is this beautiful nail polish you’re sporting? So pretty w your lavender sweater💕🥰. Thank you so much!
Aw thank you! It's ILNP Fairy Dust. 🥰
@@JenPhelps thank you Jen💕🥰
I’ve seen the Neutrogena water cream listed as a dupe for Clinique Moisture Surge, but it didn’t feel the same to me.
Great video, Jen! 😊
This is great, so informative 😊!
Jen, LOVE your makeup today!! Such a pretty neutral flush! ♥ I definitely agree with all your reasoning behind these dupe-wanna-bees. Similar, maybe, dupes, nope!
BTW - what are you wearing on your lips in this video? It is beautiful!
It's the Flower Beauty Lip plumper that I showed in the video (the color is Sizzle) :)
@@JenPhelps it is PERFECT on you!
I believe your dupes over TikTok for sure!! Thank you!
Yes a new series would be great! I'm a new subscriber here and I love your channel. I didn't like the Elf eyeshadow but maybe it was just a fluke. Lots of fallout unfortunately.
Yes as a series
I’d love to see this as a series! Great video, Jen. Love your sweater too! It’s not quite cool enough for sweaters here on the west coast.
I was wondering about the Huda vs Makeup Revolution one. I have the Huda one and for some reason my shimmers in the palette are hard panned. So maybe I should give Revolution a try.
Those hard panned on me the first time I used them so they're not better.
@JenPhelps Awe, man! Thank you, Jen!
Love this type of video. You are amazing!! You are the best 😊
Hair, wyye makeup, sweater ..*chefs kiss*
Jen, you look exceptional in this video. 💕
Aww thank you!
Curious, was that the mini glam palette you showed? Love and enjoy your vids soooo much!! ❤
Yes it was! 🥰
Can you please do a best longest lasting lip liner and lip stick video?
Great video! Interesting, relevant, and fun to watch.
