Saint Luke 18:13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not so much as lift up his eyes towards heaven; but struck his breast, saying: O God, be merciful to me a sinner.
I don't believe in all these divine beings, the angels and demons and such, at least not literally as they're described. But I do and always have sensed something "beyond", that first of all this astounding present moment cannot be merely the result of the random motion of hydrogen atoms over eons. So I've decided to take a leap to faith, as I understand it, and practice the Jesus Prayer. So maybe I don't believe, I don't have faith, but the acting as if I do will take me somewhere, show me something. I mean, isn't trying to have faith a form of faith, a practical demonstration of it? Sigh, I could use a guide, perhaps only to tell me to give it up.
Hey it's been a month since you left this comment so I hope you either still feel the same or have found peace and faith. I almost never comment or reply to comments but I would like to say that what you wrote sounds very much like myself about 6 months ago. I just KNEW there was more, but the leap of faith from knowing there is more to accepting Christ is so big and down right scary. I was an atheist my whole life (I'm 27) but over the last 5 or so years my heart was really starting to soften to the acceptance of God. Once I accepted that there must be a god, then it was even more difficult to accept Christ as that God. I had the typical apprehensions like "how could I be even close to confident that it is Christ when there's so many religions?" or "why do "bad" things happen?" I don't really know what my point is, I just wanted you to know that I was in a very similar state of mind and heart as you and I now live for Jesus Christ. Those questions you have will be answered in due time. First, you must accept Him. Take the leap of faith. I will be praying for you my sibling. God Bless.
"Secret acts of charity." Does this mean to literally keep your virtuous actions in secret, or to perform these actions without selfish intent even if others see you? For example, if there is a homeless man on the street who is begging for money, but there are lots of people walking by, is it okay if I give that person money out of compassion without expecting praise from others?
A good question that i have also asked myself many times and just now, when i see it written, i found the answer- it's the internal motivation that matters in any action.
If you do acts of mercy in the presence of people you know & frequently associate with, then such an act can open the door to pride. When you give a homeless person on the street money, even if there are many persons that see you that is not a problem, as you will never see these people again & hence there is less chance of pride. Additionally, doing this in front of these people may set an example for other people to follow your example of mercy to the needy.
Father what is the quality of charity in goodness. Surely that charity which does not give permanent results and is without faith is not true. For example if I buy my friend a drink of alcohol or give him drugs that is also charity. What constitutes faithful charity
Where have you been Fr. Peter? Are you getting throttled by YT? Also, are you getting throttled by Bishops and Priests who are working against you by trying to start their own online presence? Bring back the boom.
Reincarnation is bunk. You are not coming back as a mushroom or Martian or gnat. You have one shot at reclamation. Don’t waste it contemplating life as one iteration among many.
Actually the teaching of the reincarnation rejects the immortality of our soul because according to it after there have passed as many incarnations as necesasry for the reaching of a supposed perfection (whatever that means according to that teaching) by the soul, it get dissolved and ceases to exist. So at the end it disappears. This is in no way attarctive as an idea. But that second element of the teaching of reincarnation is not so popular which is why the teaching of reincarnation sounds attractive. But in reality our soul is immortal because we are created in the image of God and we are promised an eternal life with God. St. Gregory Palamas says, “The death of the soul is when God leaves the soul and is separated from it, although the soul remains immortal.” At the Second Coming of Christ and the Last Judgment there shall occur the physical resurrection of all dead and the change from corruption to incorruption of those living at the time:,,Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.'' (1 Corinthians 15:51-52); ,,Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. 26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; 27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man. 28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.'' (John 5:25-29). We are in hope that we will be worthy to be given by God to spend the eternity with Him. Eternal existence with God is much more delightful in comparison with the reincarnation according to which at the end we stop to exist.
Greetings from South America to all my Orthodox Brothers in Chirst ☦️ and thanks you for this video ❤️🔥

Among the most effective would be praying for the salvation of others, especially the dead.

Father What is the name of the hymn at the end of the video it is very beautiful?
Can I pray this prayer if I am not Orthodox, but I go to an Orthodox Church and I want to be Orthodox?
There is a book titled "The Way of a Pilgram". It is a short story. Perhaps 80 pages. Read it.

I used to believe in reincarnation , but that was in a past life …
