In this video I’m solo hunting blesbuck in the North Eastern parts of the Free State South Africa. The North Eastern mountains of the Free State is one of the coldest regions in the country. I’ve hunted here before on several occasions, this time I am hunting alone and in sub-zero conditions.
I’ve shot this ram at 300 meters. He was standing on the edge of the herd. It can be tricky to get in a clear shot on a specific animal when the herd is this large. But I am glad I got in an fairly isolated shot and in the end a clean result.
Blesbuck were once one of the most abundant species on the African plains. But have become scarce since 1893 due to relentless hunting for their skin and meat. They were nearly hunted to exctinction, but because of the conservation success in South Africa mainly because of the same activity hunting large numbers are now found across Southern Africa.
