- Thoughts on wearing a chunky shawl collar sweater for men. This cozy one is a donegal with wool and alpaca from Spier & Mackay, with other preferred brands being Kent Wang, William Lockie (sold at Baltzar) and Colhays (for luxury cashmere).
Chunky knit with pattern and/or texture really is the key to avoiding the Ned Flanders vibe. It just makes it more interesting in general. I like wearing them over flannel shirts and under a barbour jacket or field jacket for rugged outdoors vibe.
Charlie Hunnam in ‘The Gentlemen’ made these cool again.

After making the video, I also saw the shawl cardigan being worn on top of a sport coat on the Colhay's website, which I had not seen done before--it's usually worn over a shirt or something like a turtleneck or under a coat, but over a sport coat, if you have a generously side cardigan, is yet another possibility
Watched this video, never thinking I’d ever use the information. Two days later I was in a church thrift shop and found a JA Banks shawl collared cardigan in blue. I assumed it was “fate” and bought it. Dressed down a bit and wore it to church this morning …. got rave reviews! Wish I could send you a picture. Thanks for all your sage advice. I was the same--as mentioned in the video, they seemed stodgy, but they're quite easy to dress up or down, to wear on Sundays or in Zoom meetings. Baltzar has a nice cream one made by William Lockie in Scotland that I couldn't resist picking up. I have two. One from Spier and McKay and one from North Sea Clothing.
The North Sea Clothing cardigan in the Explorer and Brig 2 are very nice pieces that I must have but the 300 price tag is just something I can't stomach especially since winter basically didn't exist this year in Houston, Texas.

Probably not, unless it's hot. If you're going to a formal eatery, then you'd want to begin with a tailored jacket anyway.
Too bad Private White sold out their cashmere stocks. I've always wanted one but I guess I'll have to wait until next year.
Colhay's and Drake's have some good ones though unlikely to go on sale like at Private White. I've been staring at the Colhay's selection of cashmere shawl collar cardigans lately though the price is high.

How is the sizing of that cardigan? Is it true to size or slightly runs big?
I'd say true to size but if you want a fitted rather than relaxed fit, sizing down seems like it would also work.
My wife has been wearing cardigans for years... I would call them her old lady sweaters... but now I'm asking her to get me one this Christmas... I've done a 180°... or maybe I'm just getting old
