Just curious if running that shortened brass can damage the chamber up to the beginning of the rifling? Or create a crud ring that could keep from cycling the standard length brass? I know the leverevolution loads have shorter than standard brass as well. Im new to the 444 Marlin and thankfully hunt northern mi so I will be running 265 gr superformance loads. Good luck this season!
Good question. I don't see any damage to the rifling for the same reason you won't see damage in a revolver chambered for this round. The bullet jumps from cylinder to forcing coffee without issue. There is also the case of the 445 supermag. Rifles chambered for that round can also fire the 44 special and 44 magnum. The 44 special has a .450 inch jump in the 445 chamber, which is .025 in longer than the 444 X1.8" .425" jump. I suppose you could get fouling at the front of the chamber, but I've only fired about 5 of these to verify zero. Beyond that, they'll only be fired at deer. So, fouling buildup is not likely. It's not blasting ammo. We also mostly hunt the northern lower where full-length loads will be used. The shorter loads only get used in the limited zone mostly during late antlerless. On a side note, the Hornady loads pops the lever open on this rifle and they don't group at all. 50 yard "accuracy" is about 6 inch groups. Thanks, and good hunting!
Been using 444 since 1977, best gun evere, never had a deer take a step after shot
