I am old enough that I am of the "Captain Kangaroo Generation." Almost everyday, he was doing something crafty with a cylindrical "Quaker Oats" container. I was always begging...ok, ok I was always whining to my mother that she should buy Quaker Oats so that I could make a cute piggy bank (the ones made from Clorox plastic bottles were spoil tacky😉). Poor woman, she pointed out that I did not like oatmeal, but logic is lost on a 5 year old. To dive down the rabbit hole of pop psychology, I think this early frustration was a seed that, along with other frustrations in the creative area, led to a lifelong interest in art and craft; funny how little bit incidents can set the course of a life.
Yeah, Mr Rogers! My kids watched him daily. I have a new gel plate but haven't tried it yet. Very soon. I always watch your vids because I love them. Thank you. I love the idea of pressing flocked wallpaper unto the paint and then applying paper to print. Beautiful!
You are absolutely one of my favorites, love your commentaries, and how kind you are to yourself. You're also so brave with the colors. You made some very original designs, and I hope you sell them, you deserve it.
Enjoying your gelli printing videos. Beginning to understand the process. A few more to watch. Have gelli plates on desk ready to go. Love that you mentioned the wall paper as I have wall paper and wondered about using it. Will now be adding that into the paper pile to use. Thank you, Ceri, for sharing your talent.😊
That was a fun playtime Ceri, I loved the giraffe journey, that would be so exciting to create 12 x12's, your stamps and masks are beautiful so to have a pad of 12 x 12 would be amazing, I'm so grateful you share your amazing talent and creativity with us, thanks for a fun afternoon 😀
I think you were thinking of Mr. Rogers. Every time I see someone using a gel plate, I want to go and make more papers, even though I already have a thousand or so unused ones!! Thanx for sharing Ceri!!
I love playing on my gel plate. I like the papers I get, even the ghosts and cleanup sheets. They all get used somewhere, I never have any left long term. I love using a variety of papers too. My favourite is calligraphy practice paper. It is semi transparent and gives an interesting effect on top of other elements. It's also very tough and stands up to gel printing very well. Corrugated card is one of my favourite mark making tools too. Very versatile. I like what the red oxide did to the green piece - good call. I was thinking that the keeper one looked like a professionally made piece like you would see in a pad. Well done. A very successful gell session in my opinion. Thanks for sharing. 😀
I was so happy when you added the yellow to the blue prints! I kept thinking yellow and when you put the purple circles I felt like shouting "YELLOW" at the screen but my husband would have looked at me funny! 😃 I'm not particularly a fan of yellow itself but I love it with blue and with purple so I was thrilled when you decided that. And it made me feel good you would pick something I thought would work! The "jungle" prints are actually my favorites. Those are colors I love, fall(ish) colors - and even Kermit color! There is a lighter version (with more yellow in it that I call "gallbladder green" from my nursing experience) that I don't care for but your mix of yellow, green, and white came out beautiful, in my opinion. Thanks for sharing. I do love seeing your color combinations, mixtures and hearing your thought processes. Plus seeing things go from okay to not so sure to much better and ending up great is very encouraging for me! That's my usual transition if I don't just give up before I get there. Well, maybe not great in the end (for me) but worth keeping and using, anyway. TFS
Enjoyed every moment Ceri, so much fun. Loved your prints, and your stencils and stamps are wonderful. Red, Amber, Green, what genius. I have stacks of gel prints and I need to get three drawers to use this system. Thanks so much.
Ok, lots of smiles from this video! Geli play, new stamps, America trip and your own paper pad?!!! Woot, woot!! I hope you and Gayle get to have a play date! Thanks for sharing! 🤗
Thank you for what you share with us. I know I appreciate what talents you share with us. I was watching you use the gel plates & paints, and it did encourage me to get one. I'm sure I'm one of many. I watch you, and you make it look effortless. I however, am timid on giving it a go. I have to say--- I've watched this twice already. 😁
Janice as long as you approach it as play and understand that at least half your prints aren’t going to be great then you’ll enjoy the process. The more you play the better you’ll become. P.s. the prints that don’t work can always be worked on further in future sessions.
Well, while, watching you, I’ve gone through my prints from last Friday. I now realize, they need more. I had a play and tomorrow I’ll have another go. Thanks for the inspiration. I’m always learning from you.
Great video. I love how you introduce your stamps and stencils but also show us how to use everyday items that don’t involve buying anything. I’m treating myself to a pile of your stamps and another of your stencils anyway. Just placed my order and look forward to having fun with them when they arrive in a few weeks or so. It was handy to have the link to place the order. Thank you!
Another fabulous gel print video by you. The end print is always a complete mystery and welcome surprise. Can you please explain what paint smells like when it has come to the end of it's life? I had no idea the smell changes. When it comes to craft, you are always learning new things. As for the length of your videos, I am always so immersed into your videos that the time just flies by so fast so I don't even realize an hour has gone by. Thanks for s great video Ceri.
I have 2 gel plate, a 12x12 and 8x10! I want to get a 5x7 as well! I'm new to gel printing! I've been following your channel and PM Artist Studio as well! The tv show you were talking about is Mr. Rogers - Won't you be my neighbor!
I need to know how to clean your foam stamps . Thank you. Also I am getting black particles off the edges of the stamps- any suggestions how to stop that shedding .
Hi Carol, I normally clean my foam stamps under running water rubbing the surface with my finger tips, I then blot them dry with kitchen towel (kitchen paper) and let them dry naturally before storing them. As for black bits coming off I think it would be best to email Mariah at P.M. Artist Studio because mine don’t do that and as they manufacture them she may have the answer.
Great video and many different techniques and ideas. Thanks for sharing 😊. Is your gel plate base glass and does the base come with the gel square shape?
Hi Keri. Funnily enough, I'm was just sitting here playing with some gelli print papers that I made a couple of weeks ago - and your video popped up!! I'm one of the 'newbies' that has recently purchased an A5 plate, and I've never heard anyone talk about conditioning them. Could you please explain how to do this? Many thanks. 😊🧡💚🤎 P.S. I love the raised wallpaper work!! It's now on my wish list as well.

I am so new to paint! I have always been in paper crafts but lately paint has just been intriguing me so much so I love your teaching style! It's so helpful!! Do you have a system with backgrounds? Like 3 colors or the same color fam?
Each color informs the next color. The basic color wheel with primary, secondary and tertiary colors should help when you are looking to compliment or accent colors. You can take your paints and put the pure of each color on one side of your paper in little “block” shapes, then put another color on the opposite side of the paper in the same size shape. Then, gradually mixing a little bit of each into the pure, and work your way toward the middle where you have a “half and half” mix of both colors. By half and half, I mean visually half and half, not quantity of paint because darks take very little to color something. Best thing to do is just try anything. If you don’t like the results, you can simply “keep going” until you do, or cut it up and use smaller pieces as accents in something else. One more tip. If you mix colors and get “muddy” colors that look like they have a grey ish cast to them, the quality of paint you are using is probably not good enough. Some companies cheat and put white in colors to make them look more “vibrant.” This causes problems when you go to mix colors together that you know should make secondary or tertiary colors. Good luck! Happy color mixing! ❤
@@2011nschmidt I am by no means an expert, but my mother has been a fine artist my whole life and I learn so much from her regarding how to research and understand the tools and products we use to make art. When you said you cared everyone bought their own gelli plate and you were happy they were happy, that was so sweet of you!!!!

Hi Kermit😂 aka Ceri
I love the wallpaper transfer!! Darn, now I need to hunt for wallpaper🎉
Lol
Even though I know my work space won’t accommodate it, I WANT a 12x12 plate every time I watch your videos!!
Sandy do you think you’d enjoy a small square plate instead.
The round geli (sp?) plate would make an awesome moon...I might have to look around for one. TFS Hope you have a great day.
Great idea Donna

Learning so much. What size and weight of the card😊 stock
I normally use 250gsm card stock for most things, I buy it in 12x12 size and cut it down to my requirements.
I think your channel is quite well balanced.

Have enjoyed you work. What will you do with these?
Not sure yet
Great video and many different techniques and ideas. Thanks for sharing 😊. Is your gel plate base glass and does the base come with the gel square shape?
Tammy it’s a plexiglass panel I use to move my plates around on when I’m videoing.
@@CeriGriffiths thanks so much.
Where can we purchase the gel plates with the glass edges like you have?
They are not connected to the glass plates, the gel plates are just normal gel plates I just lay them onto a sheet of plexiglass for filming ease.
I like to peel my own corrugated cardboard so I can leave bits that are solid to break up the stripes.
That’s what I do for mixed media pieces.
