Yes: I *know* The Tolkien Estate wouldn’t give Amazon the legal rights to the *full* stories of The Second Age contained within THE SILMARILLION. In my opinion, however, that is ALL THE MORE REASON--IN FACT, IT’S THE MAJOR REASON--ROP SHOULD *NEVER* HAVE BEEN MADE…….Let’s face it: without the material contained within The Prequel of All Prequels, ROP never even had a **chance** to tell a coherent, logical story.
No, Tolkien would never have used the character in the way he is being misused by this show. He’s supposed to be like a spirit of the forest and older than any other life on middle earth basically. In the book, he saved the hobbits from the trees that tried to consume them and then from the barrow-wights. In the book, he has a wife named Goldberry who is like a river spirit. There is a Russian adaptation of Fellowship of the Ring which is the most exact adaptation of the book and features both Tom and his wife. That used to be on RUclips. It was made in 1987 and they obviously did not have much budget to work with but their love of the source material is evident. The Soviet authorities did not like this kind of book that encouraged imagination.
The decision to add the Tom Bombadil abomination to this show is (or will be) the last straw for many who know and love Tolkien. This is a terrible terrible show, it seems the showrunners have no idea what they have done. We almost need a level beyond hate watch to describe/rate this garbage

The *sole* bit of foreshadowing upon their arrival that Curumo, or “Saruman--the head of the Order of the Istari--*might* in some far off time become a “Dark Wizard” is that he feels hurt pride and envy when Cirdan the Elf-Shipwright of the Grey Havens is *inspired* at the sight of “the last” of the Istari (Olorin, the humblest of them, who came to be called Gandalf, Mithrandir, Storm-Crow, Gray-Haim, etc), that he immediately took off his magical Elven Ring of Power, Narya-The Ring of Fire-and gave it to Gandalf. Saruman felt that as the head of the Order, this honour should have been his, not Gandalf the Grey’s, of whom he did not yet have a high opinion. In any event, the Istari were not supposed to be around in Middle Earth until the *Third Age,* NOT the Second. There have been lawsuits but they have to be specific to be succesful. Nosferatu lawsuit was succesful because it was simply to similar to Dracula. Avatar lawsuits failed because there were differences to other works that sued it.

I thoroughly dislike like Star Wars, so you can imagine that when Not-Gandelf and Tom are having a one to one scene recreation I was actually ready to just drop the series entirely lol. I also just don’t like the idea of this training arc. And I could have sworn the Istari got their staves from the elves or in elves lands. But I could be misremembering.
