Track custom events with Google Analytics 4 (2024)

Learn how to send custom events to Google Analytics 4. Here I will be using Google Tag Manager too.
If you want to send events to GA4, first check the list of recommended events in the official documentation. If you cannot find anything relevant there, feel free to use any name for your custom event.

Hello Julius,
I have an issue with your Google Analytics 4 property where I have installed the Google site kit plugin for WordPress but there may be something I don't know going wrong.
Real-time events are not showing in the Analytics dashboard.
Also, I don't know how to pass cookies for analytics tracking and other Google cross-site cookies.
Further, I don't know what is the function of the ar_debug cookie for tracking within Analytics 4. Can you help me resolve this issue? Also, how can I directly connect with you?

Query:
I require your assistance in tracking my custom events.
I need to monitor a specific filter on my e-commerce website. Users visiting my website may navigate to various category pages and apply filters during their visit.
For example,
If a user visits the pants category and then applies filters such as "brand" and "size," I want to track these specific filter selections on my website. There are 3 types of filters available in my website and i need to track which filters are most popular.
Could you please provide guidance on how I can effectively track these events?

Thanks. So is it not recommended to add events in GA4 from Admin > Events > Create Event? I am used to doing this, then marking as a conversion, so I don't have to wait the 24 hours and come back to do it again.

This was recommended a year ago but things possibly changed
