This is not new. Where have you been? Consider the issue of conscription! The restriction on not having involuntary servitude went out the window as soon as it was inconvenient. Going back further, the limitations on restricting free speech were immediately attack by the Sedition Laws shortly after the country started. The restrictions on federal governmental power included in the constitution were gutted by expansive interpretations of the commerce clause and the general welfare clause. The general concept of paper constitutions restricting governments has been discredited by 250 years of experience, but people are still surprised when another incident occurs?

Motions to dismiss can and are made at trials. You're welcome for educating you.
When Republicans complained about non-judicial actions during Trump impeachments, the Democrats said impeachments were not trials governed by due process principles.

Sure do. He just did exactly what Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer did during the final years of Bush Jr's term. It was Reid and Schumer who came up with the idea of "pro forma" to prevent the President from exercising their constitutional right to make recess appointments (something every president has been able to do since Washington), and it was Reid who came up with the "nuclear option" to bypass the filibuster for judicial appointees. McConnell extended the nuclear option to cover the Supreme Court justices, and used pro forma to prevent Obama from making recess appointments just as Reid did to Bush. And when Obama sued over it, the Supreme Court ruled 9-0 that he had to eat it, because the rules were set and just because the parties flipped doesn't mean it suddenly wasn't in their power. It was also "pro forma", the most absurd senate rule ever, that allowed McConnell to keep a Supreme Court seat vacant for 10 months, as it stopped Obama from making Garland a temporary appointment in the interim.
But that's how this always plays out. Someone comes up with a way to circumvent the rules and pats themself on the back for being oh, so clever, and then they cry foul when the parties flip and their new rule is used against them. So many times over the past couple of decades, and they're doing it again NOW, with this vote to dismiss. A new precedent is set, and we will see this happen again in the future with today as a reason. And it will keep happening as long as politicians can't be held accountable.
