The scary part is that you are just getting introduced to Geoff. He has outstanding solo work from Ghost Riders in the Sky, to Monster Mssh to Hobbit songs. His range and arrangment, and video work never ceases to amaze. And yes, he did get his start in entertainment working in theme parks.. I believe both Universal and Disney.
You got Geoff's name correct :) If you like Haunted Mansion, I would recommend Voiceplay's version of Hide and Seek (Ding Dong) ruclips.net/video/KkN49k4EtT4/видео.html they are costumed as Haunted Mansion characters to do that one. Also, the ghosts in particular, Grim Grinning Ghosts is at ruclips.net/video/B5TYZ8GqZbU/видео.html (seven years ago!) And yes, Geoff's solo stuff is basically not a capella. People usually claim Geoff has 5 octaves of range (roughly A0 to A5), though in interview he pointed out that reaching a note is different than comfortably singing a tune in that range, and he felt more comfortable claiming 4 and a fraction octaves of useful melody.
This is the second cover he's made without showing himself singing the harmony. Usually he records multiple video copies of himself, as you saw in that last screenshot of Over the Misty Mountain Cold and Ghostriders in the Sky. He can sing those changes live, but you won't see them in his covers. He's recorded several shorts, some with and some without production. Thanx for hopping on this one. I don't think he hit a B0 in this one, but he did in Valhalla Calling. The highest note in this one was a C5, so his range is octaves, but he said recently that it's not something he can do at the drop of a hat. In the studio, yes, cause he can try it as many times as he needs to. If you are compiling your Christmas list, be sur that his God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen is on it. Trust me.
God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman is fantastic! Also, to see VoicePlay in a non theatrical performance check out their cover of Metallica’s Nothing Else Matters, it’s a masterpiece.
@@sharonleath6384another less theatrical (but still very well acted, especially Cesar, the curly haired baritenor) is their cover of I Can’t Make You Love Me, as well as True Colors, Can’t Help Falling In Love With You, and Bridge Over Troubled Waters.
Geoff and the Voiceplay members have all worked at Disney and Universal Studios at times, having grown up and lived in Orlando for the most part. This definitely impacts their theatricality.
Geoff is the King of Halloween. The weird little ghost is Jack’s ghost dog, Zero, from The Nightmare Before Christmas. If you want to experience his crazy big range, I’d recommend Ain’t No Sunshine, Blackbird, or Ghost Riders in the Sky. Also, his God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen is a Christmas favorite not to be missed. Enjoy your ride down the rabbithole!
According to Peter Barber's analysis of this song, Geoff ranges from E1 (subharmonic) to C5 (tenor high C), with the final note being a chest F1. While this isn't Geoff's lowest and highest notes he's done in videos, it's still an impressive range for a single song. Geoff has earned the nickname "Mr. G1" from at least 1 reactor, and that note seems to be pretty accessible to him these days, with (as here) sometimes F#1 and even F1 on occasion. In one of VoicePlay's minis, he hit A5, and he's hit A0 subharmonics a couple of times, so he really does have a 5 octave range.
Great reaction- thanks! Yes, you are right- Geoff has an amazing 5 octave voice range (the harmonizing background vocals are all him too and he has been playing piano since he was 5 years old). Geoff and Voice Play take Halloween very seriously as it is their favorite holiday. Geoff and his wife, Kathy, both worked at Universal theme park at the "Beetlejuice Rock And Roll Grave Yard Review" as Frankenstein and his bride (some of the other Voice Play members worked that attraction as well and the annual month long "Halloween Horror Nights"). If you like Disney's Haunted Mansion, you would enjoy Voice Play's cover of "Ding Dong/Hide And Seek". For the singing heads you mentioned, try Geoff's "Headless Horseman" on his solo channel or "Grim Grinning Ghosts" from Voice Play. I know you enjoyed J None's rapping in "Valhalla Calling" so I think you would love Voice Play's "Superstition" and don't forget to check out Home Free and Voice Play together in "Survivor- Zombies Vs Hillbillies".
How does he do it? He's been singing continuously since high school, and he and Layne Stein (the beatboxer) founded VoicePlay back in 1997 (when they were called 4-2-Five). So the answer is: Practice, Practice, Practice! ... Also, you need to watch _The Nightmare Before Christmas_ - a classic cult movie that this song is from. Another Disney Musical (with Tim Burton). The little ghost dog is a character in the movie.
Nice reaction. Looking forward to more reactions to Geoff's content as well as Voice Play's. Among the acapella groups, I enjoy Voiceplay for their unique take on their covers of other artist's work and the production quality of their videos. Plus, they seem to have so much fun singing together.
Geoff does include instruments on his solo channel; it is one way to differentiate what he does as a solo artist from his work with VoicePlay. Not everything that VP or Geoff put out is theatrical, but very many are. I agree with the comment below about Hide and Seek (Ding Dong) and Grim Grinning Ghosts; you will especially appreciate them as a Haunted Mansion fan!

Voiceplay have two versions of "Grim Grinning Ghosts" one live after a show and a production video and a Haunted Mansion inspired "Hide and Seek" with the TikTok "stairway siren" Lauren Paley as stated by others. His latest is a narration of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" and VP's next release is straight a Capella on stools very versatile .
What a delight! So glad to see you checking this out. VoicePlay is something special, and Geoff Castellucci is a unique talent. I believe he does have a five octave range (if it's six, someone please correct me). He usually has three or four green screened "clones" in his solo videos singing all the different parts. Lots of fun and a treat for the ears as well. Throw a dart at the list of titles; you can't pick a bad one.
Geoff is extremely talented in everything he does. He uses instruments in his videos. The background vocals are all him. Usually they're in the videos with him. This is the second time he hasn't. Each has their own name and personality.... Jeff, Jeoph, Goff and Daryl. The first 3 started as a little dis to the misspelling and mispronunciation of his name in "Way Down" when he played as janitors and a supervisor. He added Daryl in "Ghost Riders In The Sky". Last year's Halloween video. Now all their names are permanent. If you watch him in any of his videos he and his other selves kinda interact with each other.
If you enjoyed this and have an hour or so to spend listening, he just released his narration of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Geoff does have a 5-octave range. Another fun fact, all the background singers here were him...he layered it.
Every time you mention VoicePlay's theatrical style all I can think is "Someone show this man Seven Nation Army!" They are called the theater kids of acapella for a reason, but they have more range than you might expect. 😉
Others have been recommending a lot of stuff from Geoff already so I will add some more Voiceplay (oogie boogie is kinda grey zones eh? XD) Little Mermaid Medlay We don't talk about Bruno Boy bands in 5 min Sleeping in the cold below Dream on The dragonborn comes My mother told me ... just to name a few of my favorites 😂
It’s pretty much guaranteed that it will, as he’s not only constantly creating new content for us, he’s also constantly pushing his limits vocally (or, at times, being pushed to his limits by Layne lol😂)
Geoff is an amazing vocalist. As you delve into more of his work, you'll be blown away by his... honestly inhuman range. The guy has a good five octaves under his belt. He's also got a technique called subharmonics, which is just... insane. In many of his videos, he'll actually layer himself in multiple times, covering the other vocal parts. You're really going to love exploring his works. Also... funny that you mention Haunted Mansion... ages ago, at this point, VoicePlay did a cover of Grim Grinning Ghosts... the song from The Haunted Mansion...
Welcome to the rabbithole! Yes, Geoff does have an amazing range for a bass, although he doesn't consider himself a 'true' bass! Others have mentioned some other 'spooky' stuff from him, I would include 'Monster Mash' as it's such fun! The 'ghost' dog is Zero, from the film - you saw him being 'animated' by Geoff's wife Kathy, in their kitchen! Both Geoff and VP are unusual in that they do almost everything themselves, from arranging, producing, filming and editing - they will bring in additional expertise when needed, like the amazing talents of Rick Underwood for makeup/prosthetics, and additional camera operators, with the genius of Ed Boyer doing the final audio mix (as he does for VP, Home Free and many others) The beatboxer of VP, Layne Stein, is the co-owner of PattyCake Productions (along with Tony Wakim, ex-VP baritone), where a lot of their videos are made - although a large part of this set came from Geoff & Kathy's yard! The credits on the originals will always tell you who does what - enjoy your voyage of discovery!
That’s not credits at the end, that’s his higher tier patrons 😊. He really is great! He usually does all by himself with the aid of his wife, elaborate makeup like in this video by Rick Underwood, sometimes one or two camera men and sometimes Eli, tenor in VoicePlay, helps with the lighting.
Good to see you! Geoff does have 5+ octaves from A0 growl, B0 you heard in Valhalla Calling, F1 full chest. Bb5 (done in Peaches a mini Super Mario). Most of the Halloween props came from Geoff and Kathy's home and yard. Watch the end and you can see Kathy animate Zero, Jack's ghost dog.
Geoff has said he owes inspiration to Disney vocalist Thurl Ravenscroft, who was later known as the voice of Tony the Tiger. Geoff's video performances "The Headless Horseman" and "Grim Grinning Ghosts" are based on Ravenscroft. Btw, it's "no-treh dahm" for the Paris cathedral and "no-ter dame" for the U.S. university and football team.
Ok, now THIS is some crazy voice range... I know nothing about the voice ranges etc but I know one thing... I know that I loved the reaction again 😊 Wish you an amazing day Chris! 😉
@@larryshair thank you for a great reaction to Geoff. Please do a reaction video to Geoff's solo cover of Shenandoah & Sounds Of Silence. He loves to clone himself 3 or 4 times to harmonize with himself. Even when you don't see his clones they are always in the background singing. Geoff also does some solo Christmas covers. God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman is his absolute best. Please check out his channel.
He's actually retired from universal... He had performed there for many years before he was cut in 2020. At this point, us patrons are very happy to support him enough that he can focus on music.
His total range is 5 octaves 1 semitone (A0-A#5). However, in this cover, his lowest note is an E1 (exactly 1 octave deeper than a typical bass), with his highest being a C5 (tenor high C); 3 octaves 8 semitones.
Lol, the funniest part is that in all of the interviews he does, Geoff says that he doesn't consider himself a "true bass" singer. And Voiceplay is known to be more theatrical. They are nicknamed as the "theater kids" of acapella. Lol, and yes. Geoff has about a 5 octave range. I think some of the other reactors have said that he hit a C5 in this cover. I just know that he can sing lower than I can and FAR higher than I can. My range is only around high bass to mid baritone. My falsetto sounds like Mickey Mouse, and it hurts my throat to try.
You mentioned this sounds like a song that belongs from Haunted Mansion. Voiceplay actually has a version of Grim Grinning Ghosts from that ride that's really worth watching. Welcome to the rabbit hole 😂
Great reaction Larry! And yes, 5 octaves. Geoff's put out some "how do I do it" videos that are a great watch. This release is one of my favorites!! BTW the Hellfire sauces are great. Loving all 4 selections!
If you click on the description and go all the way to the bottom, he always credits everyone else does VoicePlay. In most of his earlier videos they used a stationary camera and Cathy was his only crew unless elaborate make up was involved. To see his range for each of the registers gets to shine, I would recommend I See Fire from Desolation of Smaug. He once again play the four dwarves that he did in Misty Mountains. But each of the dwarves get to sing for a bit and he sings in that range for a fairly long time. I added links to the most commonly recommended songs, but I don’t know if you read the replies to comments so am adding them here as well. •DingDong/Hide and Seek ruclips.net/video/KkN49k4EtT4/видео.htmlsi=oEdgbXJ3O3zl1MeF •Grim Grinning Ghosts ruclips.net/video/B5TYZ8GqZbU/видео.htmlsi=C6ytI3fpTDM2gxTL •Also Grim Grinning Ghosts while they were backstage between sets which was performed live ruclips.net/video/jpw0yQpvb_c/видео.htmlsi=c4AIByt1p6lPp8-M
Grim grinning ghosts... yes, VP and he did that about 10 years ago. He had not yet matured into the terrifying sound you hear now. We are now leaving spooky season, but you are welcome to explore the rest of Geoff's collection... I think you need to listen to The Sound of Silence to see exactly how much story Geoff can add
I'm going to hope that you've just been enjoying these without us... Rather than that they got forgotten completely. Geoff dropped one last month that I really hope you have had a chance to play until your neighbors went mad.
Funny you should mention Haunted Mansion. They've done songs from Haunted Mansion and they're all amazing. In addition, for Haunted Mansion and a lot of other Disney properties back in the day, they heavily used the talents of Basso Proffundo Thurl Ravenscroft. And take a guess as to who Geoff has said he idolizes as one of the most influential bass performers to him? You can definitely hear that Thurl Ravenscroft quality when he darkens his voice, in singing or speaking. On his solo channel, he's got a few videos of him just doing some voice acting reading and it's phenomenal! I could listen to that voice ALLLLLL day. On a side note, Thurl Ravenscroft is such a freaking cool name.
You said he should voice one of the busts from The Haunted Mansion, and I have good news! Voiceplay have covered Grim Grinning Ghosts from the movie, and I think you'll appreciate what they did for the video 😊
Geoff doesn't do his covers acapella. He and his clones sing all the parts. He saves acapella for VoicePlay. Talking of VoicePlays' cover of Grimm Grinning Ghosts shining busts. Yes, five octaves is about right. The ghost dog belongs to Jack his name is Zero.
Larry, great reaction! Geoff is phenomenal as well as his a capella group Voiceplay! If you think Geoff has a range on this, you need to hear how high and low he goes in the Voiceplay video of "Oogie Boogie's Song," where he plays Oogie Boogie! It's freakishly awesome! Also "The Monster Mash" (a solo video by Geoff like this one)!
You find this range, you should check the Oogie Boogie Song of Voiceplay ;) Geoff will totally show off range there you will be surprised! I just saw your Valhalla reaction and then came to this one. I just want to say: Welcome to the family! I enjoyed your reactions and I have subscribed :)
At this point, he's got 5 octaves starting at A0. The really scary part is he is absolutely this good across all of that. To steal a quote from A Song of Fire and Ice, "His voice is honey poured over thunder."
B0 Subharmonic (Valhalla Calling, Halo Theme) are his lows, I think he hit an F1 in chest in Folsom Prison Blues - C5 Chest Belt (in this, and I think also in Voiceplay's "Queen In Five Minutes" Mashup). I think in one of his "how I sing low" videos he squeaks out an E5 or F5 in falsetto momentarily. Regardless, you can definitely call him a five octave singer.
If you are talking about Grim Grinning Ghosts, the haunted ride song from Disney, VoicePlay did that song. It is from a few years ago and some if the group members were different. The video is super fun.
Geoff did do a version of The Haunted Mansion song with the busts singing. Every October he does a Disney Halloween based song with high level video production. Jack Laments was this years song.
As best I know, his range is F1 to C5 without using any voice "alteration" techniques. Toss in his subharmonics, he extends down to B0 (on occasion, though he admits this is inconsistent). So yeah, 5 octaves and a bit is his true range. Something you hear only with the most talented (and hard working) vocalists out there, like Dimash or the late Whitney Houston, or (I hate to admit) Mariah Carey...among others. Someday, someone with connections to Broadway is going to "discover" Geoff, and he's going to have a big decision to make.
Agreed, I would put Geoff's chest range as F1-C5... but head voice counts, too, which extends up to F5(ish), so 4 octaves with just a natural voice... that's very rare. Mode 0 voice (chest-fry) is something that Geoff isn't that good at, which would extend his range even lower, since many people feel that counts as part of our range, too. Geoff is a master at what I would call Mode 0.5 voice; it's almost like a supported fry on his lowest chest notes but isn't into full fry.
His little friend at the end there is the ghost of Jack's dog Zero from the movie _The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)._ If you look closely at 6:08, you can see him slap his left leg to call the dog. In the BTS clips at the end you can see Geoff's wife Kathy working this dog/ghost puppet in front of a green screen. Fun stuff.
It is on Peter’s channel, where he does reaction/analyses and interviews. Just so you don’t have to search on The Bass Gang’s channel. However you might want to check out some of their songs too
fun fact Geoff is a professional singer from Universal Studio in Florida he talks about that in an interview with another singer youtuber he said that being a natural bass he had to train his voice to go higher please do Ghost Riders in the Sky or misty mountain's cold to really hear his ranges
I was so looking forward to this since I love the Nightmare Before Christmas and he did not disappoint! Absolutely love this! Shot right into my favorite spot! Happy Halloween! 🎃👻😈
I suppose you get a 'pass' for not knowing Geoff. 😊 I've seen many of your reactions. You're good! As to Geoff's range, he can sing IN 6 octaves... 0-5. If you count from 0, it's 5 octaves (from 0-1, 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-5). There are several 'articles' online that are outdated. They give hi lowest as D1 or C1. He hits B0 in a couple pieces. I'm not aware of him singing lower than B0 but maybe I just haven't heard it. He can also sing in the 5th octave (I'm not sure of his highest note). Geoff is, in my opinion, one of the most amazing musical geniuses of our time. He sings, plays multiple instruments, he arranges, he works with his wife on set design and construction. There are a very few "lower" basses out there, but most don't have his quality of tone when that low. Geoff has some excellent solo (well the "Geoff Choir" where he does multiple tracks) videos. You should check ANY or all of them! Obviously, VoicePlay is incredible. Right there with Pentatonix and Home Free.
Not every song is gonna have meaning. This is just a song with dope ass lines. If There’s any message, it’s: Look at all the dumb stuff I do. U don’t want me as a role model

You must really like Eminem. If you want to do some epic mid 70’s masterpieces do Woman by Legs Diamond, Touch The Wind by Teaze, and Post Toastee by Tommy Bolin. Tommy was a guitar prodigy from Sioux City, Iowa. How good was he? He was in Zephyr in 1973. He also played on Billy Cobham’s debut jazz fusion album Spectrum from 1973 along with Jan Hammer on keyboards. Then in 1973 took over for Joe Walsh when he left James Gang to be with Eagles. Then in 1975 he took over for Richie Blackmore when he left Deep Purple. In ‘75 he released his first solo album Teaser. In ‘76 he released his second solo album Private Eyes. In 1976 while touring with Deep Purple on the Come Taste The Band tour he died from a drug overdose on December 4, 1976 at only 25 years of age. A huge loss to the music world. His song Post Toastee is about NOT letting “your mind Post Toastee”, i.e., die or destroy your life from drugs.

His vocal control is seamless from tenor to bass. That's why he's truly remarkable. Plus his re-interpretation of vocal arrangement is always spot on.
It's that and the fact he can do a chest-connected C5 belt... that's even rare for a typical baritone... let alone someone who is a natural bass.
This is the second cover he's made without showing himself singing the harmony. Usually he records multiple video copies of himself, as you saw in that last screenshot of Over the Misty Mountain Cold and Ghostriders in the Sky.

Great reaction to my favorite bass singer
Yayyyy more Geoff and Voiceplay please 🎉
I know that I loved the reaction again 😊
Wish you an amazing day Chris! 😉
You too, bud! Stay safe today - and always!!!
Happy Halloween.
He has a long career ahead of him. Voices in movies, animated movies and theater.
He's actually retired from universal... He had performed there for many years before he was cut in 2020. At this point, us patrons are very happy to support him enough that he can focus on music.
Indeed!
Incredible.
Several years ago VoicePlay did cover Grim, Grinning Ghosts from the Haunted Mansion Ride.

You need to do Geoff Castellucchi's Ghost Riders in the Sky! That definitely has ghost galore.😊
Listen to his Blackbird cover it shows his range beautifully. It is older and his range is more now. But Bkackbird is so wonderfully done
Thanks!!
Please listen to his cover of Ain't No Sunshine.
At this point, he's got 5 octaves starting at A0. The really scary part is he is absolutely this good across all of that. To steal a quote from A Song of Fire and Ice, "His voice is honey poured over thunder."
Geoff does the piano on his own stuff. This is from Nightmare Before Christmas.
Don't forget Danny Elfman! He is the incredibly talented writer of the music and lyrics. And he sang the song in the movie, an amazing rendition.
Boo to all 😮
AAAAHHH! Whoa, got scared there for a sec! Blessings my friend!
@@larryshair Boo hoo! Thanks for being such a rock in my life ❤️
oh you have so much to catch up on, when it comes to Geoff Castelucci
That moment were you said "wwwwhhhaat" . Those of us who obsessively follow voiceplay and Geoff reactors live for that moment. Hee.
lol, too funny!
He doesn't hit 5 octaves...he annihilates them 🤣 Love your enthusiasm, checking out all your reactions.
lol, true!
Tim Foust has basement notes. Geoff has sub basement notes.
Yes, he has at least a 5-octave range. I've heard him hit an A#5.
If you are talking about Grim Grinning Ghosts, the haunted ride song from Disney, VoicePlay did that song. It is from a few years ago and some if the group members were different. The video is super fun.
Listin to sixteen tons or big john amazing range
The song is from The Nightmare Before Christmas. The ghost dog is named Zero. Geoff, I am told, has a range of five octaves.
Fun stuff.
you're correct 5 octaves, try "the oogie boogie song" from nightmare before Christmas Geoff goes even lower.
Please try all of Geoff's "solo" covers! There isn't a loser in the bunch!
You need to explore his other covers. He is amazing
It's a haunted piano, naturally. 🎹👻 Oh, and the ghost is Jack's dog, Zero.
On RUclips there is a great interview featured Geoff done by Peter Barber of Bass Gang
Voiceplay covered the singing busts song (Grim Grinning Ghosts) you mentioned. So did Marwan Ayman. You should check them both.
I was so looking forward to this since I love the Nightmare Before Christmas and he did not disappoint! Absolutely love this! Shot right into my favorite spot! Happy Halloween! 🎃👻😈
Thanks, you too, Traci!
You need to see his Unshaken.
His range as of this video is from B0-C5
🎃👑 !
Voice play did at "Grim Grinning Ghost" Video. That is the statues from the Haunted Mansion ride/
Woah what a cool voice!!
Right??!!!
He also has a B-0!!!
Popular opinion is that Foghorn Castellucci isn’t actually human. 😂
I like the comment by What It Do Dave that he is actually a dragon and he slowly shedding his skin.
WORD 🐲
Voice Play did a cover of Grim Grinning Ghosts from Haunted Mansion... you definitely need to check that out.
If you havent found them yet, I encourage you to take a look at The Bass Gang.
Sorry if this is weird but, uh, you are a very attractive person. Ok thx thats all. Have a good day sir!
You called zero a weird ghost 🥺
lol, Zero? I had zero clue : )
I think the obliging piano is haunted.
You are right! He can sing in 5 octaves. Check out I See Fire
Not every song is gonna have meaning. This is just a song with dope ass lines. If There’s any message, it’s: Look at all the dumb stuff I do. U don’t want me as a role model

@@that_averagetyp not fair!
@@patriciajohnson9654 😉
Nightmare before Christmas was produced by Tim Burton, not Disney, and the score was done by Danny Elfman...again NOT Disney.
Too slow this time, Patti 🤪🤭🤭
Lol😂
Lol too funny! Dropped it a bit earlier than normal so we caught Patti off guard lol
@@larryshair love that! 😂
Thanks so much!
