Brilliant performance. The entire ensemble was great but John Thiessen and Elizabeth Blumenstock really shone. The rounded notes that come out of the baroque trumpet give it a sound that's wonderfully fluid. Thanks for the great upload, and also for the reminder that there was once a "Biber" worth listening to.
He`s certainly not been overlooked by me! A music teacher of mine in the early 70`s did his doctoral work using the Kromeriz archives. I`m surprised he actually got into Czechoslovakia in those days. to do so Antonio Bertali has also been overlooked; however, his Ciconia has gotten quite a bit of play though!
Really superb and the baroque trumpet is scintillating in every way. Thank you all so much for bringing so much joy and happiness to this world. Long may you continue !
I would just like to say that I am relatively new to Classical Music, having only just "re-discovered" it so to speak, and I absolutely love this piece. I agree that the Baroque Trumpet sounds beautiful, it is played with great feeling and it has a wonderful tonal quality to it.
How anyone can prefer "modern" instruments to the originals, I can't begin to fathom. Wonderful performance, as usual, and the Baroque trumpet was perfect! A great sound and intonation was flawless! Keep it all going! Thank you.
This has sweetened my day immensely! What a wonderful ensemble, playing beautiful music. And to think that John Thiessen grew up right here in Kitchener!
If you don't dig this Biber work, then baby you should go and love yourself ... All jokes aside, this was a great performance; love the natural trumpet sound

I think there's been a Biber revival for the last 20 years, first through violinists, and then mass and choir stuff of the last 10. But he is, I think, more appreciated by musicians than any kleine nichtmusik. :)
Now that's something I didn't know. I just took it for granted that what exists today was merely a copy of the original. Speaking as a keyboardist, harpsichords & organs are built to original standards, as much as possible, with few "modern" adjustments. Interesting about the "baroque" trumpet. Thanks!
Voices of Music The RUclips Ad is a great success! That's how I find you. I remembered when Jeanne Lamon went to the Tafelmusik in 1981, the "orchestra" was less than 10 people. 33 years later, it turns out to be an orchestra, which is able to perform the complete Beethoven symphony cycle on period instruments, with 40+ recordings and 9 Juno Awards. Regardless of the lack of awareness outside of San Francisco, I can see the seriousness, the passion, and the devotion that your musicians put into your concerts. Continue making new adds and tour nationally and internationally. I can preview the Voice of Music will be as successful as the English Concert, the Academy of Ancient Music, and the Tafelmusik.
Voices of Music and its directors, lutenist David Tayler & harpsichordist Hanneke van Proosdij, will be featured at the 2016 Berkeley Festival and Exposition, June 5-12. They'll be performing a full concert with violinist Rachel Podger as well as providing continuo for 'Concerto Palatino' and "Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra.' www.berkeleyfestival.org/
Interesting historical fact: in the later part of the 17th century, a number of concertos have the title "sonata." One of the reasons for this is that sonata was a catch all term for anything played, but another reason is that, well, concertos were sometimes called sonatas.
The flute-trumpet with holes is a modern invention which hopefully will soon get out the window. Modern trumpeters are excellent at the valve trumpet and think they can play anything called a trumpet. This is a complete lack of respect towards the natural trumpet which is an instrument "à part entière" , not the variation of a modern trumpet. NOBODY can play the natural trumpet adequately today.
Божественно все! Культура звука у трубы ,какие трели,какая нежность,великое мастерство!
We are treated to such fine performances here, we are so lucky to have such talent to enjoy……..many thanks.

Super performance!! Congratulations!!!
Why has Biber been overlooked for so long? It's time for a Biber revival!!

That natural trumpet sounds so cool! Great playing by Thiessen and great lines by Biber
That was FABULOUS! What a splendid trumpet! And gifted ensemble!

Well I love this, but I also love Vaughan WIlliams' Fantasia on a Theme by Tallis, for example.

Sorry but this is not a concerto. Sonata tam aris quam aulis in C is the title. :-)
