I like how it looks-simple, streamlined, functional, efficient, elegant. Light and easy to manœuvre. Heat distribution and burner control excellent. As for the grease trap: wait until it cools before removing it. I can’t imagine a better design for an outdoor gas griddle.
Excellent work Amy and Neal! I was super interested in your take on this unit! Always appreciate the straightforward information - y’all are the BEST!! GRIDDLE ON FAM!!🔥🔥
Thanks so much...just lost knowing what could have been..hahahha just a Weber guy from the start and so excited when I learned about the Weber Griddle and then to get it and see the final product just heartbreaking
Nice honest review. I've never owned a Weber before. Price was always a factor. Seen plenty of old Weber's in the dump in the same shape as my old no name brand grill.. Anyway, love the Blackstone's I have. My first one was the dual burner 24" one. Started taking it camping and works great for that.
Got tired of hauling it in/out of the RV, so popped for the dual burner 36" Blackstone with the electric "Air Fryer" drawers on it. Great griddle for the back porch and won't use a "bbq" type of grill ever again! :)
Now I just leave the 24" one in the RV, so it only comes out once at the site for the long weekend. :)
My man and lady😎 Awesome job on this. Looks to be priced right! Looking forward to some cooks.
Doing some today...ahhahaha
Super informative. Thanks man
Glad it was helpful!
I found you by searching for reviews on this grill. I'm also extremely partial to Weber for many years.. but I was also trading their stock for many years and their management ruined the damn company and allowed for a recent takeover.... soooo now who knows what kind of quality they will produce... it's gonna be a whole new ball game .. now that I side ranted.. I still can't bring myself to buy anything other than the Weber name.. 😂 this review was absolutely 💯 everything I needed to know.. appreciate the effort! they are now delisted from the stock exchange and became private again, and guess what!!! this all happened the exact day they released this new griddle.. 😳. this technically was the very last item they produced before the takeover happened..
WOW...didnt know any of that...if you liked this one...check out my newer video...Pros and Cons...Blackstone, Traeger, and Weber...it really holds its own...top of the list when it comes to heating and heat distribution...but its ugly as sin and zero accessories
Awesome and honest review Neal! Looks nice but I started out with a Blackstone 36 and not sure if I could ever change over lol. Can’t wait for the first cook! Cheers 🍻
thanks bud
Nice review. I am getting my first griddle once this New England winter ends. I have the Big Green Egg, and a Webber Summit gas grill, so I see your point about the looks. The heat distribution does look better than other griddles, I will be interested to see how it cooks.
I will as well...hahah we shall see...
I have the 22" Blackstone and love it but want to upgrade to bigger flat top this spring or summer. I'm not loving this Weber so I'll wait a bit longer and see what upgrades Blackstone or other models come up with. Awesome revue Neil. keep on griddling. Cheers from the great white North
Thanks Dennis...Blackstone should be coming out with some new stuff this year.
I own a Pit Boss smoker, a Masterbuilt upright smoker, and a cold smoker I built myself, and have been looking at griddles for a while now. I have been looking at a Membersmark 4 burner griddle, was originally $329 then $199 then on sale for $149 but with Sam's club points was able to score it for $100 and i have to say it is a great griddle ... surface is 36 x 20 i am very pleased!!
so far I have heard nothing but great things about em....the only problem literally is most people are not Sams members and cant get them...if so I think by the reviews I have seen it could easily be #2 in the market,,
@@TheFlatTopKing What do you think is number one? As far as griddles go.
Nicely done!!
Thanks Jay
$450! 😲 I would not have a griddle yet if I had to pay that! I got my 36" Blackstone for $250! List was $400+ though.
My shelves got hot too until I put the side blocks on. That cooled them down quite a bit and evened out the heat distribution. My butter doesn't melt anymore either! 😁
I wish my griddle had come with a hood. I'm not impressed with the aftermarket hoods and Blackstone seems to only offer them with a new griddle attached!
Thanks for the review!
Thanks Curt....
Thank you for the honest review of the Weber griddle. I have the 36" Blackstone and love it . Have be considering adding a silicone topped griddle to my arsenal but not sure, whether to add another Blackstone or some type of silicone griddle.
I ams not familiar with a silicone griddle....ya got me on this one. Silicone is typically and higher heat plastic/rubber
@@TheFlatTopKing I used the incorrect word. I should have said non-stick cook surface like the Pit-Boss has.
@@bacchus7485 ooohhh ok got ya.
Honest review thank you! Front control panel gets hot and slid out grease tray with no stop when removing are no gos for me. Looks like they got the cooking surface correct but we will see performance when you cook.
Glad it was helpful. I just cooked on it and WOW...not ready...
I love mine, I'm either going to get the 36 next, or build my own
I have been a Weber guy and a form follows function guy for decades. When you are last on something, you can evaluate the negatives of those who have gone before you, make the necessary improvements and maybe be a bit innovative. I share some of your disappoint in this offering from Weber.
The actual purpose is to cook and Weber design has always accomplished that well in my experience, so we shall see. I still think my inexpensive, on sale Blackstone was cheaply designed and manufactured, and I should have bought a Camp Chef.
Spot on Manny....how in the world with todays technology and pressure to innovate can you launch this with a Weber name
Been looking at the treager and some things I like is individual heat zones with partitions, large side shelves, and a 5 year warranty! But it is $875! That's a downfall! Oh yeah it has a large grease bucket! I would definitely love to see a impartial review! Thanks for the review on the Weber! God Bless and keep doing what you do!
Ultimate test would be a hibachi cook!
Absolutely....we shall do it..
I actually bought another campchef one portable for tailgating, and beach vacations, the other is my stationary ..
Don't let the idea/image of those small divider panels next to the burners fool you. Most of the heat migration on the griddle surface is conducted by the continuous griddle surface itself. If they'd made gaps on the griddle surface separating the zones then you might be able to believe in individual heat zones.
@@rodderbob i thought the same thing. Absolutely same thing. The griddle is one piece. Regardless were the heat comes from it will join together.
Like you, I didnt see anything to say WOW!. I'm still partial to my Camp Chef I picked up for $150.00. After all, we are dealing with a heat source and then your dealing with personal preference. Thanks for the video and definitely informative. GRIDDLE ON DUDE AND DUDETTE.
Hey Bruno absolutely great find..your right...just like I preach cook what you like to eat....you have to make the decision on what goodies you need or want with the price tag to go with it...
Do you plan on reviewing the Traeger Flatrock griddle? Definitely looks intreresting with their burner design and claim to three seperate cooking zones
I didnt even plan on this one...its literally fell in my lap...if there is enough interest I just might have too....
I would definitely like to see that review
I would be interested in your review of the traeger!
Bump
I paid $150 for that 36 inch Sam's Club griddle on sale and I'm totally happy with it. It has exceeded my expectations.
Yeah seems like alot of people have great things to say about it...
Thanks for the thorough and honest review. It does look pretty basic, and that would be fine if it were at a price leader cost. But at a price at least $100 more than a basic Blackstone 36 inch griddle, that Weber name is costing you. I’m looking forward to your review of its performance. So far, for the money, the Blackstone 36 looks like a better value.
Absolutely spot on...cooking today for the first time...
Great review Weber has always made top quality products. But I like the Blackstone especially for value the 28 inch Blackstone is approximately 200 dollars v the Weber. I also like the grease collection in the back of the grill v the side area.
Great review video! I'm looking to pull the trigger on my first griddle, wanting to keep it sub $500. 28" is big enough but would consider bigger. What is your favorite out of all of them you've tried so far? What is your best semi budget recommendation?
At that budget...go a few more like maybe 3o bucks more....get the bigger weber...
Well, I pulled the trigger and purchased the Weber 36" 4 burner. Ordered from ace and got a call my local Ace store is assembling it. Should have at some point tomorrow and get it seasoned up. As most things with cooking outdoors, bigger is better and just felt the 28" might get a littl cramped on big cooks. Also like the fact that there is a hinged hood and 4 wheels.
thats awesome...really great griddle...heard great things from both sizes
Nice intro. It was clear and intelligable,. The video zooming in and out was a nice touch also.
You can thank Amy....
@@TheFlatTopKing thanks Amy
I agree it's not the best looking griddle. I was also surprised by it's low cost. I'm sure Weber will come out with a future one with a cabinet that looks a little better. Nice review and let's see how this thing can cook
I hope so too....its just shocking this is what they came out with....
Love your videos dude! Great in depth reviews and awesome insight and advice. Any plans on the new Halo Halo Elite 4 Burner griddle?
I honestly have never heard of it...absolutely first time ever hearing about it
I never thought about if you could use less than all the burners. I have the 36" Blackstone in the beginnings I was always lighting all 4 but quickly there after started using 2 to 3 of the 4. Sometimes the middle 2 sometimes 2 on 1 side or sometimes 3 combination depending on what kind of heat zones I was looking for. I've had it about a year and a half now and it gets used several times a week and has zero signs of warping but it is a pretty heavy piece of steel.
Absolutely correct...some people say that when the heat is off on one side or the other it can cause a huge heat variation and warping can happen.. From my point of view when the manufacturer comes out and literally has it in the manual it helps feel more confident. its a whole thing about warping etc...plus on the griddle group which is why i started it I wanted to see whats actually happing and stories behind it..
The first thing I noticed were the knobs are half turn, not quarter turn. That's a huge selling point for me, I despise 6 o'clock low 9 o'clock high, much prefer a 3 and 9 set up for precise control. Thank's for another great video.
Interesting....thanks
I'm also a weber kettle guy but I agree. It looks cheap even though the price isn't.
Absolutely...especially with Traeger launching the New Flat Rock...what a world of a difference
I'm research-phasing... even heat distribution is my primary concern... heard good things about this. I'm a Weber guy, too. So, the 25 years of gas, charcoal, smokers makes it hard to switch.
Neal... I happened to watch a video yesterday by "Meat Church BBQ" seems Treager has jumped on the griddle bandwagon too. Feature wise it was fairly similar to all the major griddle brands. But a couple features the Treager had was "Horse shoe" type burners, and in between each of the three burners they have like a baffle that is supposed to better regulate the three cooking zones. I know on my Blackstone even if I turn say the right burner down to low or off all together it takes a very long time to cool off to cook say eggs. So the baffles may actually help to keep a single zone from continuing to draw heat from the other zones.
Ya know I have paid extremely close attention to the Traeger and yes you are right...my thought is yes underneath it keeps it separate but the griddle will "bleed" into other temps...just curious how much
I like the simple look. Seems like a good first attempt from Weber but maybe a few upgrades like folding shelf and better lid
I have to say...I am uploading a breakfast cook today and its mindblowing good for Weber...
Thanks for the review. Hey...did you say you got rid of your Camp Chef? Why may I ask? Thought that was your favorite.
Honestly so far it has been...
No problem bud…
A few things went into the decision..
1.We added on our deck to make it bigger for grills and entertaining. We quickly outgrew that because all the new smokers and griddles.
2. Extremely hard to move and film…just flat out got tired of musical chairs for one video. Plus they were so similar it was hard to choose which one that day.
3. Maintenance and seasoning…all the dang time…and having to keep it up when not in use.
4. The Camp Chef was harder to move…only 2 360 caster wheels…My wife would move while I prepped…
5. We originally said that we wanted to cook on other griddles and made the decision to sell it…heck we liked the idea of only having two…way less moving…the two are completely different..so we have not rushed to pulled the trigger on another one…BUT…Weber has teased the release of a new flat top griddle and that will definitely be a purchase when available..
Huge Weber fan here, have several kettles, wga, 4 burner Genesis....Was waiting on a flat top. Thanks for the review, I'm not real impressed with it. I guess it'll take some feedback and complaints from customers before they make changes. I'll keep my Blue Rhino for now. Thanks guys!!
Hey thanks for reaching out...Just filmed again and Man what a difference.....its night and day...still lacking appearance but completely even cooking and heat adjustable
@@TheFlatTopKing That's good to know.....Weber usually doesn't make "junky" products. That front stainless part that gets hot is an issue they need to address.
We just got the new Traeger Flatrock griddle. It is built like a beast. We were able to compair it side by side to the Weber and there is no comparison. You should check it out.
looking forward to it...I will say so far the Weber has been flawless after the first bumps...
I just put together the 36” 4 burner- seamless great engineering - seasoning early this week much better features then this 3 burner. Love your channel
thats awesome....what features are better..I was under the impression that it was just the hood and wheels...I truly love mine...
I still think the Camp Chef flat top has the best looks even though it's been out much longer than the competition. I also find it's the most sturdiest. I'm also a little biased because that's what I use! :)
I absolutely loved mine...but in fairness we are uploading the a breakfast cook that was absolutely fantastic
The burner holes on top are for the flame to get from one side of the burner to the other side of the burner. It only lights on one side they are called crossover ports
So when lit the do know have flames though them?
Yes but it’s not for heating it to get the flame from one side to the other. The byproducts is a little heat though 🙂
"Absolute basic ,nutshell of a griddle " that pretty much covers the unboxing. 😆 It's nice, bro. 👌
Glad you liked it
Im excited to see how it performs. It does look extremely basic and cheap but looks can be deceiving 🤷🏼♀️
Hey reach out to me privately
I bought the 4 burner pit boss and so far I'm liking the cook top
Good to hear buddy...just keep it clean and dont add oil after cleaning...good to go
So telling me to keep it dry
@@johnkieffer4525 yes sir. Only add oil if needed for your cook.
I have been a Weber user and owner on various models for decades until the Blackstones. This was a very good, honest review. I think Weber missed the quality mark of the brand by a large margin. Further I noticed the pop rivets on the corners and sides, not a good way to hold things together over a lifetime of use. The metal make- up looked and sounded flimsy, not being able to use the cover while griddling is a BIG mistake. Anytime you create an inconvenience of use, its a negative no matter how you try to spin it. The very hot front area, is an accident waiting to happen. The thickness of the grease tray indicates it is a stamping and not very thick. If I were to grade it overall, it gets a low "C". Again, very good review!!
Yeah i agree with all that...and the worst is just the over all underwhelming appearance
Thanks for the review. For the money , two wheels - fail. Sup par lid - fail , I like the solid sides , no towel bar - fail , no bottle opener - fail , I prefer separate ignition system. I prefer the grease trap on the back. I’m waiting for Blackstone to add a second set of wheels to the smaller griddle before I add it to my 36” version.
Totally agree
Hey... I love ur videos... got kinda a tech question... figured u would know.. with an ir thermometer what emissivity setting would a blackstone griddle be
Buddy you have gone completely above my head,,,,ahahhaha I point and shoot on Fahrenheit
Great video. How it cook's is what matters.
I mean it has to be a huge part..for sure
Great review. Wonder when and if BGE will roll one out? I would have to get one to match my two Eggs if it happens. I’ll keep this 36” BlackStone until the legs fall off!
hahahah yeah that would be cool..not the fallen legs
Great review! I think the oil catcher can be a deal breaker though.
Yeah not sure the thinking behind it...to me just seems dangerous...
Matt's Show Notes:
(Negatives)
1. Definitely agree, looks plain Jane.
2. My Camp Chef was less expensive.
3. Notable gap between the griddle top and the frame. Bad on windy days. Amy had some shots where I could see almost the whole length of the burner.
(Positives)
4. Nice that it comes with the cover, even if only for storage. I had to source from a 3rd party for the CC600.
5. Top is at 520° plus, and the shelves are cool?! That's awesome!
6. Seems like a very even temperature distribution.
7. Weber's heritage.
8. Can't wait for the next cheesesteak!
Man the first cook....well you shall see...amazing the ups and downs in just an hour
@@TheFlatTopKing I look forward!
Great video as always. Thank you. Planning on buying my first griddle and have been watching all your reviews. So far I'm torn between the Pit Boss DELUXE and the 36 inch Weber. The Weber has great heat distribution and performance but looks plain and the Pit Boss DELUXE has better designs but not as efficient as the Weber. Oh what should I do? I'm horrible at making decisions. 😢
If you were me which one would you purchase? And lastly can the lid on the Pit Boss DELUXE detach completely or is it on a fixed hinge? Looking forward to your help and guidance. Thank you.
The lid can definitely come off....I am very close to my Weber...I truly think although it does not have all the bells and whistles...its a great griddle...but the Pit Boss is portable as well..
@@TheFlatTopKing Thank you so much for your help and support. Also thankful for your quick reply! So appreciate what you and Amy are doing for the griddle community.
@@eunicebrothers1950 👊👊
Cool video. I'm also a Weber guy for grills and it seems weird that they've made a griddle (love my Blackstone)
I think now adays more about building a brand loyalty and the popularity of griddles...some people swear by brands and want it all to match... can blame em for reaching new customers..
I know this is off subject for this video but I was wondering if you ever cook on a small griddle. We live full time in our RV and carry a 17 inch Blackstone. It has some unique challenges. Most of the time when I cook for the two of us I can move food around and clean as I go (thanks for that tip) and keep the food on the hotter parts of the griddle. If I am cooking for more people it gets interesting due to space limitations. If you cook on a small unit, I would be curious as to how you manage the grill space. Do you hold food that is done to make space for more cooking? How do you keep it warm if you do? It might make a good subject for a future video. I have seen thousands of small griddles in campgrounds everywhere. Also, I have been seasoning my griddle every time I light it up, cleaning as I go, and cutting off the heat before the end of the cook. Life is so much easier! Keep up the good work.
I have not...actually thats why i bought the 28in....its smaller than the 36in obviously and thought it was a compromise....I do know if you ask the question in the Griddle Group on Facebook we have several RVers...and I know they have them...
Thanks for that great review. I still wish for a Camp Chef one day, but someone knows why they are so unavailable lately?
Well the website has them instock
Ya, being a little too hard. A weber kettle grill is nothing to write home about esthetically, but I could cook just about anything and pit (heh) it against anything else cooked on anything else.
My guess is that Weber wanted to touch a market that wants a quality griddle but doesn't want to spend a fortune on it. Weber has always done a fine job of spanning the market with quality cooking utensils. Keep your eyes out, my guess is, like with their gas grills, they will be bringing something for the higher end market, and maybe everyone in between.
Don't get me wrong, solid review. You covered everything that I was curious to know.
stay tuned...spot on...
Great… right when I’m about to pull the tigger on purchasing a griddle two new griddles enter the market!
hahahhahaahha I know the feeling...just when I only had 2...
@@TheFlatTopKing well I pulled the trigger on a 36” blackstone. I got a heck of a deal on it too
Thanks for the awesome reviews you do. I have watched through quite a few videos of yours and am in the market for a griddle sometime this year. I was leaning towards the original Weber 36" because of the size, hinged hood, and the performance. But after some more reading the Traeger Flat Rock and the new Slate are also intriguing but the price is a lot more. The original Weber fits the budget better than the other two but could stretch if needed. Curious if you think the Flat Rock or Slate are worth the extra cost over the original Weber. I don't mind the look of the original weber, the only thing that worries me a bit about it is the design if it is windy out seems to cause some more issues than it would on the Flat Rock or Slate.
I think the original Weber is completely fine. If the others are stretching your budget…. It’s not worth it. Many many people still today rave about their 36 Weber.
@@TheFlatTopKing Wow, thanks for the super quick reply. I mean it would be the difference of maybe getting the griddle to have for this summer vs next summer. I could make any of them work in the budget, it's just might have to wait a little bit longer for the Flat Rock or Slate. Just don't want to regret it down the road. But I am not sure I won't based on what I have seen on the original Weber. In your opinion if it is a windy day is it completely unusable?
@@alarsen77 no it’s not unusable. I would buy cheap 1.25 dollar tree metal dough cutters. A lot of people do that. I am one of them
I think I am going with the Weber after seeing the follow up videos with you first couple of cooks. But before doing so, I wanted to get your thought. Want to add a griddle as part of a kitchen island. Can I prop this up with out the legs or even cut down the legs to rest within the island?
Well the grease trap hangs below so the legs at some point will have to stay on..if you cut you will have to determine where because I think it also adds support to the legs...To be honest I cant answer that will a clear conscious...I just dont know the right answer
@@TheFlatTopKing thanks for the response. Is there a different flattop that you would recommend for an island?
@@campdog17 not without personal experience. You can definitely ask that question in the our griddle group on facebook. The Griddle Group on Facebook. Have around 40,000 members and this is a common topic. Outdoor kitchens and the use of griddles. That way you get first hand experience by actual people
The looks of it isn't a complete deal-breaker to me but for that price, I'd expect more. My Blackstone was over $100 cheaper and looks a whole lot better! Agree with you about the wheels - they really cheaped out. The BS with it's 4 wheels is so much better. Also, the footprint of this 3 burner takes up more room than my 4 burner Blackstone with the tables folded down - and footprint was a big concern to me. I also don't like the grease trap in front like that. I know you said you're used to it, but seems like it'd be a bit limiting. I also don't like grease traps that need a "chute" to direct the grease - just something else to clean. To me, the Blackstone grease trap design is another win. The even cooking surface temp is impressive though. The real test will be the cook - I'm sure it's fine in that regard but at the end of the day, you're paying more for less.
Buddy absolutely spot on. Nicely said.
you said you got rid of the camp chef? which flat top do you prefer or recommend?

Thats a loaded question...all have goods and bads
So I watched the second video before seeing and watching this one. I have the Blackstone 28 inch griddle. I did not pay for it as it was part of a promotion. But with that being said it is sturdy and the cover is a true use cover while cooking. My son seasoned it for me numerous times before it was ever used. It is awesome according to my wife and I will add everything she has cooked on it has been great. Now I believe you said you paid $450.00 for this one and Weber's site has it $449.00 so you definitely did not get over charged. Weber is a brand I trust and have used for 30 plus years. But with that being said I am just wondering about the quality of the design and materials used in the building process here. Just curious as to who tested this out at Weber before signing off on it. If you could take the pros of every griddle out there, incorporate them all into one griddle while adding your own ideas then we would have the closest thing to the perfect griddle. Unfortunately it doesn't work like that, not with griddles or anything else for that matter. Of course if it could be done then I would think it is worth the $450.00. From what I have seen so far I think it is over priced. But to be fair to Weber these days I think a lot of things are over priced.
Spot on....200 percent correct..Just filmed again and Man what a difference.....its night and day...still lacking appearance but completely even cooking and heat adjustable
Blackstone rules !!!!
They definitely have a backing...there are some good ones out there and i am giving up on Weber yet...
Great review. Can't wait for the cheese steak cook.
You and me both! Doing it today...ahahahha
Hope it’s a good griddle I big Weber guy. The new Traeger flat top looks impressive but comes with high price tag. I not huge fan of the grease system on my camp chef. Thanks for the video.
Totally agree....I absolutely love my Charcoal Weber...just cant believe this is what was offered with todays pressure and technology
Would enjoy you giving the new Treager Flatrock a test run for us.
me too...ahhahahah we will
Totally agree with you, weber guy too but they really didn't try very hard on getting into griddle market. Sad
This has been a few months now...crazy thing is this is my second favorite griddle...not much to look at and no features....but its a blast to cook on and holds a true low...
I was about to buy this in 36” but was wondering what would be the issues with no wind guards.
I definitely think it could be…. But many many people now have loved it. They find ways to deal. Aftermarket ideas etc.
What brand infrared temperature gun are you using?
I have them listed below in the description...its not that I dont like it but its literally the only one I have bought so I could not tell ya
I've been a Weber guy since 2005 when I bought my first WSM. But I agree with you, this is lackluster appearing to be a Weber. I would probably go with a Camp Chef and modify the grease trap (al-la "The Griddle Guys" mod with a side drain). Overall, this one is a "meh" for me... Maybe they will come out with a Summit version of the griddle that has all the bells & whistles?
hahaha absolutely...they are good at things like that...absolutely love Weber and just shocked this is what they pushed to get on the market...
Just picked up a used camp chef 4 burner flat top. Curious why you got rid of yours? Was it too small, or harder to maintain than the others?
Great question and thanks for reaching out...
Honestly so far its been my favorite
@@TheFlatTopKing Thank you! The Camp Chef I bought appears to be a little warped. Any chance you have a video on how to straighten it out? If not, might be a good one to make. Thanks for all the videos. Love the recipes and reviews.
Neil , good video my friend.. I think you should reconsider that outdoor kitchen. Thank you Frank from the frozen North.....
You are right!
With 75K subscribers I bet Traeger would send you out a Flat Rock to try out, too. I would love to see that one!
Well its something I dont reach out to do...so if they do its on them....I just stay in my lane and let what happens happens....
Is there a chance that you wiped off the original seasoning with soap and water? Usually brand new cast iron is recommended to be cleaned with warm water only and no soap for this same reason.
I am not sure where this information is coming from but from my experiences that just not correct. Typically what you would her is the ONLY time you should clean with soap and water is the first time before seasoning. Pit Boss Camp Chef Blackstone Lodge all have the same mentality. Plus washing with soap does not wash Seasoning away. Soap does not have LYE in it and that is a debunked idea that has not changed with technology and times...I still today wash cast iron with soap when needed
I think I can see what they are doing from a sales point of view. It seems better in some ways than the Blackstone 28" griddle but a bit more palatable to the wallet than the Traeger Flatrock. But either way, great review and I understand what you are saying about it as well.
Thanks Alan...but for reference you can get a Blackstone with cover on sale for around 325 to 400 usually and it comes the same way lid etc...and 36 in models
@@TheFlatTopKing Yep! I paid $350 for the 36in BS at Tractor Supply ... 2 months later they had them on sale for $250! Day late and a dollar short ... that's me. lol
@@philshock3805 you and me both. Brings up several sore spots ahhahahahah
@@TheFlatTopKing Yeah but, Blackstone looks and is super cheap. I’ve had my 36” for about a year, love the griddle top but let’s be realistic, the rest is cheap garbage. Rusting out of the box too.
@@wyo_garage20 well I personally have not had that problem. I will say the Camp Chef, Pit Boss and Blackstone has all rusted somewhere
Disappointed to see Weber made such a flimsy griddle. I have the Weber Stealth Pellet Grill and that pit is built pretty solid. The Traeger FlatRock is twice as expensive but it has some really nice features to go along with the price. The FlatRock isn't perfect though but at least they came up with a new design instead of finding a parts list from an old 2018 Blackstone and just coping it. Good view!
Have you had experience with the Traeger Flat Rock...I am completely surprised that there have been so many people asking about it...They hate the price but want to know more about it...I just cant believe this is what Weber came out with...I absolutely LOVE my Weber products...all of them...this one just missed I think
@@TheFlatTopKing Yep I got the FlatRock this past Monday. I did not have a lot of time to use it before the release date but I like it. Very even temps and very sturdy. I really like the way they built it so it is not affect by wind. I only wish they put the grease drain closer to the front left corner edge like my Pit Boss because there is a little heat exhaust through that grease hole. Yes it is a little pricey but that hasn't stop people from still buying Traeger. If I was just a griddle channel I would certainly get one for some content!! This being their first attempt I think they did a pretty good job, at least 3 times better than Weber did. haha Plus Traeger Nation is almost as loyal of a cult as the RecTeq Pellet Grill crew!!!! ha ha
Kinda in awe....honestly I have followed you for a while...i go to your channel for reviews..ahaahhaha funny you Commented on mine...I just grabbed my wife and said see it is him..
I am absolutely blown away from all the comments about Trager so far...literally turning heads either good or bad...hit me up privately on Fb or Instagram...
Excellent review!
I am looking at the Eno Plancha (2 burner). Lifetime warranty on the griddle, 10 years on the burners and 2 years on everything else. Have you ever heard of it?
Thanks!
Thanks for the info! I have not...
Seeing teh grease trap on the Weber, I immediately appreciate the bucket/handle style of the new blackrock. The Weber looks like it would be prone to blowout, raised and exposed on all sides of the cook surface. I live in a dry, dusty climate, that shelf makes me cringe. It’s functional sure but its a turnoff for me, it would take constant cleaning.
Absolutely...that definitely ones of those pros and cons we try to preach...it has to be for you..
Well, if it cooks well, has a good range of temp control, then it's a decent enough player in the game. Looks like they took a ho-hum approach to target the Weber loyalists. If they operate true to previous form it won't go on sale very often, if at all. The only qualifier to that is that an investment firm has recently taken full control of Weber, so there may be some changes in marketing tact going forward.
That new unit from Traeger looks interesting, to me, for two primary features. One is the griddle surface is sunk down into the cabinet/cart which should help with minimizing the impact of wind on the burners. The second is their use of U shaped burners which might give wider "hot spots" that could be advantageous. I do agree with some other folks that the Traeger seems a bit pricey for it's list of features, but performance could be a factor.
Great insight Bob...
I do find the u shaped burners interesting on the Traeger and think they could be a big performance improver. Hopefully, other manufacturers will see this and think about upgrading their models if this works out as a thing people really see as an improvement. Inexpensive heat shields can solve the other issue of heat loss, wind effect, and the side shelves getting too hot. Perhaps Blackstone should include these features in future models.
Now that Traeger has a flat top grill/griddle, (with it costing $900) you might want to hang a shingle outside and see if Traeger will send you one. 8t looks Uber heavy duty. It'd be interesting your input.
ahahahha To be completely Honest I would rather buy myself so there is absolutely no strings attached and its completely from the heart...
Neal, after using a 36" griddle, do you think that the 28" is large enough?
I shall see....thats exactly why I didnt wait on the 36in....i wanted something smaller to have a completely different experience
Great review, Neal. Can't disagree the aesthetics are underwhelming. Think I'm still going with the Pit Boss. "Obviously, I'm married" - zing!
hahahahahaha now thats a good one...hahahaha
I'm a huge Weber fan and grew up with members of the family when they were a small local Chicago Suburb company and after.
Everything they have done points to quality and points to very sturdy high class grills. And it's always worth the extra money, and as Neil said, people you have over talk about your Weber grill.
Looks like the Weber Flat Top Grill Neil reviewed lacks the Weber Brand Name Quality, the overall Look and Feel. The bottom line is Weber missed the mark on this one.
Of course, the first cook of Cheese Steaks will be awesome...Neil will be cooking them!!
Spot on...i counted with Amy and missed a few i have had...so a total of 7 products and your right..they missed the mark..
You guys should tryout the gorilla grills Primate. Its a Grill/Griddle combo. Its very nice but very expensive which is why I haven't bit the bullet on it. Would love to get your opinion!
I have heard 2 different people swear by them...and thats it..I know on our FB griddle Group it could be a question asked from people that have it..
Looking forward to seeing how it performs. I agree it does not look like it's up to what I consider Weber standards and that is disappointing. Any idea why the new Trager is $900? It must come with a years supply of wagyu beef, no wait...maybe eggs.
hahhaha no clue but we will have to find out...
Looks like the 36” will have a top on hinges but other than that remains the same. I’ve had several Weber grills as well as smoker and have been pleased. I received the BS as a Christmas gift and my wife was able to get at a nice discount…never see Weber on sale so this will be the price…seems a little high.
Good call! The only other thing I saw on the 36in was it had four 360 caster wheels...but honestly it looked like plastic as well
Great intro to the griddle. One thing...your shirt. Really should have Memphis as the city represented for TN.
Well....the CIties represented....are state Capitals...ahhahahaha I appreciate it
@@TheFlatTopKing Ahh...just saw the pig shape and Nashville, so I figured it was more about BBQ than the capital. LOL!!!
Got this yesterday at a Target for 50% off!
Hey thats a fantastic deal...
I have the 30" and the lid is much heavier gauge steel. Wish the side tables folded down.
My son works where they sell Traeger products and the rep gave out the accessories kit before they were released that as I recall had a dome, shirt bottles spatulas, press and scraper. His was missing a larger spatula but hey it was free. They are good quality. Just watched the RUclips video on the Traeger grill. Looks like it may be a contender.
yeah they seem to be tuning heads for sure...we shall see
The next step is to try out the traeger. It looks pretty good and it definitely doesn't look like a toy
Yeah it seems like they have something solid...
@@TheFlatTopKing at this point, I'm disappointed in any griddle that doesn't come with at least a paper towel holder. Especially at the $400 point and above. That should be standard with a griddle
have you looked at the woodwind pro by camp chef, I got one and its amazing! with the built in smoke box!
I have....looks absolutely stunning...do you think the extra smoke helps
@@TheFlatTopKing well you can add the chunks of wood, and it did help a bunch I've, been on the fence forever about a pellet smoker, because of the lack of smoke flavor kinda killed it , and I ran out and got this one because of the smoke box, on the pro, the regular woodwind, don't have it.
I think every one will get onboard with this design. only done one cook, but the ability to ad briquets is a game changer.
@@TheFlatTopKing ill report back, I'm from a stick burner, so ill let you know in a few more cooks if the smoke is worth the price

It does kinda look like a toy, but the burners and heat distribution look very promising. Maybe putting some nicer wheels on it would make you feel better😊
some bling bling....hahahahaha
It doesn’t look the best but those even cooking temps are a major major plus !
I like the new Traeger but hate the price. Also seems they got sneaky and the five year warranty is for legs and body of griddle only
You hit the nail on the head...
Have you had a chance to look at the LOCO Griddles, Home Depot has them. There not cheap. They have a temperture setting on the knobs.
I have.....I have been pretty comfortable with only two griddles and this one literally just feel in my lap....
You mentioned in your Webber video that you have gotten rid of your Camp Chef griddle. What was the reason for that?
No problem bud…

There are some differences with the 36”. It has a hnged hard cover and 4 smaller castors instead or two big wheels.
yeah thats what I noticed as well...
Will you review the new 2024 Weber Slate grills?
Yes..i thought it would have been here last week...hopefully this week
Cheesesteak with goat cheese?
Question. Does it seem like there is a way for wind to blow into the burner area like on the Blackstone? Great video and I agree on the toy look.
Also I must have missed you selling the CampChef. Why did you sell it? Just to make room for something else?
Yeah no wind guards and no leveling...

You are not being mean!! For a Weber, the build looks very cheap!! Now performance will decide the final mark!! I've always had Webers, until this year and still have my kettle, but I went and bought a PK 360 and have yet to try it (still in the box), but from the reviews I've seen, can't wait to try with the grill grates which I also bought!! Also have a Traeger which I'm not really keen on!! But the Pit Boss 3 burner griddle I bought last summer, I love!! Just waiting for this Canadian spring to heat things up!!!
wont be long....spring hurry up
